The place has been farmland since about 1926. It became a family horse property with three pastures and now is a small lavender and blackberry farm. While it is limited to two RV sites, there may be farm visitors walking around the area. Tall cedars and fir remain in the back of the property and provide for a forest experience. It is not a commercial campground. We are now turning it into a small lavender farm. About half of the original pasture is now covered in black ground mat and 3,000 newly planted lavender. Learn more about this land: One acre pasture for dry RV camping (no restroom facilities). There is a potable water/hose bib and an auxilliary 110 volt 15 amp AC connection via extension cord from barn. You should rely primarily on your own power. Walking trails are in cedar trees and on hill across 10 acres with flower fields and blackberry "farm". Free blackberry picking in season (August and Early September). Deer, racoons, foxes, bald eagles and occassional coyote on site. Keep food and trash secure. No toilet or sewer available. There is one portable "porta potty" type facility. Dry camping only, no camp fires allowed due to fire conditions. Pack out own trash/garbage. No Pets allowed. Only visible neighbors are three horses on neigboring 10 acre farm property. There is Wi-Fi. Beach access has been closed.

This cozy cottage is equipped with a queen size bed in a lovely sleeping loft, a small but useful kitchen, a large trex deck with patio furniture, a comfy couch and small dining table. The separate, but luxurious, bath house has a full sized shower, sink, and fully plumbed flushing toilet. There is even a small stacked washer and dryer available. Laundry soap available for purchase. Name brand (no dollar store stuff here) shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided. A cozy heater keeps the tiny house warm on cool days, but there is no air conditioning. The shady woods stay nice and cool, and there are lots of screened windows to let in the breeze. The sleeping loft also has two screened windows and a fan if the nights are warm. The kitchen has a gas 2 burner stove, a mini fridge, toaster oven, hot water kettle, french press coffee maker, dishes, utensils, pots/pans, and other basics. The bed has 100% cotton sheets, pillow cases, and blanket. As well as a comfy coverlet. A feather alternative duvet is available for colder nights. There is only one bed and it is not recommended for small children to sleep in the loft as there is no safety rail or gate up there. If a child is present it is recommended (almost required) that they sleep on the couch in the lower living space.

Please note, this is HARSTINE ISLAND, NOT HERRON. I haven't gotten Hipcamp to fix this yet. There is a bridge to the island and the coordinates offered for site are correct. The map says beach shore Rd but the physical sign says Klondike. Very clean commercially maintained outhouse now available! Beautiful peaceful forest with trails, a great spot for elopements (elopement package separate) and a beautiful meadow with a small ringed fire pit for one site and a movable fire pit for another.. 2 meadow sites in 5 acres, a forested tent sight coming. 70% of the Island is forestry but sound DOES carry a long way so it's not dead-quiet. Harstine Island has a BRIDGE, no ferry! One hammock is left up in the forest and there are places for your hammocks to be hung, as well. There is one spot on drive that is between two trees so you need to go slowly and be careful, 9 foot wide at wheel base only. Please take note of this. Easy for cars, a bit tricky for some trailer/RVs. Photo and video can be seen on webpage. Types of wildlife include barred owls, a nighthawk usually in summer can be seen at dusk, western alligator lizards, warblers, robins, crows, wrens, a bear has visited before (lucky me heard it 'woof' at me, bear didn't appreciate my singing), deer, others have seen red fox in the past but we have not been so lucky. Birder's paradise. One lovely review calls it a great place for forest bathing! Puget sound is SO clean here with a diverse salt water life. Orca and Humpback have been spotted nearby. You can track them at Orca Network or Puget Sound Whale Sightings on Facebook. Frequently people have seen orca making rounds with the incoming tide going under the bridge and circling the island! There is Jarrell Cove state park and a boat ramp at Latimer's Landing Boat Launch few miles way. There is a great local market at the community center Saturdays from 10-12 in the summer. No water view, this is heavy forest off a gravel drive into privacy. No power, no water, pack it in pack it out. Please be careful of deer when you are driving in and observe island speed limits. Familiarize yourself with the personal fire extinguisher at the site.

You must have a fully self-contained RV to stay at our property as there are no public bathroom or shower facilities available. So come on out and escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Cute little wood cabin on a large, quiet lot, with covered porch looking out towards the water near the end of Cole's Point. Gravity fed fresh water at the sink on the porch. Inside, includes couch, queen bed, twin bed, fridge with chilled water, freezer, microwave. Nicely heated in winter and stays cool in summer. Sitting in comfy camp chairs on the covered porch can be magical during a spring rain. Outhouse with nightlight and composting toilet. Firepit with kindling and firewood in winter. (Summer fires are not allowed.) Short walk to the beach to the north. Short walk south to the edge of the Oro Bay as well. Kayaks can be rented on island. (Not related to the host.) Multiple hikes / walks within Jacob's Point, Andy's Marine Park, and 7 other parks on island. One wonderful little grocery store on island for fresh or incidental items along with one cafe, and one restaurant. The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. Each site offers a picnic table and fire pit. *Please pay attention to the fact that these are walk-in sites, and you'll be hauling your camping items from the parking area over uneven ground. We provide a cart to help tote your items, if needed. Pack accordingly* There is a communal central deck for camper's use, with a sink, propane stove, some cooking utensils, power outlet and a hose bib. A communal port-a-potty is available to campers. The working farm fields are not open to campers, but can be admired as a backdrop. Wave hi to any farmers you see out there working! A You-Pick flower patch and farm stand at the entrance of the property are open for frolicking, picture-taking and flower-picking seasonally. You'll see bald eagles, hear owls and watch deer pass through your camp. But you are only about a 5-10 min walk from town! This does mean you'll often hear music from events on weekend evenings, and plane traffic does fly overhead. Vashon is quiet and full of nature, but you're not out in the middle of nowhere! Weekend Trip to The Hoopla

My group and I stayed in site 1. Carrie is sweet and they are so nice and helpful there. The site was large enough for 3 tents and our Truck with camper. They had a cool, fun atmosphere, hiking trails, access to the beach. The location was easy to find using Google Maps as well as Carrie's instructions. She came out to say hi when we arrived. Next time, I would stay in site 2, it is just a little bit bigger and slightly more private, but site 1 was still very nice and large. Getting to the beach is not hard, there is a bit of a steep grade at the end, but they have put in ropes to help with stability and it is not hard to get up and down from the beach at all, it is a typical nature path. If you have knee issues or general stability issues the use of hiking poles or a walking stick and good shoes is recommended. Overall, our stay was very nice, the camp is clean and the owners are very nice and helpful.

Weekend Trip to Neighborwood: An Eco Retreat

We (my partner, myself, and our two dogs) had a fantastic time at neighborwood. Everything is as advertised and more. It was our puppy’s first outdoor adventure and we had everything we needed to make it a stress-free trip. We are so glad we opted to stay here instead of doing a traditional tent camp. You are tucked away in a beautiful, quiet place but also have the amenities to make the trip easy. Tyler is a very sweet and helpful host and his dogs are very friendly. The island itself is very peaceful and the perfect little getaway with few cars and quiet parks with great access to the puget sound. Would recommend and we hope to be get soon!

I really enjoyed camping in the lovely meadow of Owl Glade. It was really peaceful and private, we saw a lot of wildlife in the short amount of time we were there! Harstine Island is really cute too with a lot of lovely flat hikes, a Saturday market, and views at the state parks. GK was a great host- helpful and communicative. We were set up for success when we arrived. I would stay again and recommend to anyone.

We camped for 3 nights at site E. The sites are clean and well leveled on gravel and the property was quiet, well maintained and deer friendly. The owners home is on site and they are friendly and helpful if you need them but also non-intrusive. With full hookups this was a good place to base at for exploring the area!

Beautiful and peaceful, but they need a better plan for letting visitors in on arrival. We had to wait outside their locked gate for more than 30 minutes. Giving guests the code for the gate in advance seems like an easy option.

We stayed in lot 2. The property is well maintained and clean. The hosts come around to greet everyone and are so kind. There are porta potties and a wash sink. We were able to fill our jugs often. The water is a hike away with a steep incline. But the view is amazing. I will definitely book again with John and Carrie. Thank you for an amazing Friday-Sunday.

When to go

The best time to visit Kopachuck State Park is during the summer months when the weather is warm and the beach invites for a swim. Winter visits offer a peaceful solitude, but be prepared for cooler temperatures and the possibility of a burn ban affecting fire pit use.

Know before you go

Ensure you have a Discover Pass; an annual pass is $30, and a one-day pass is $10.
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times.
