Tent camping on Carrie's property was wonderful! We were basically in the woods, which was great. The portal potties were very clean, and they even had a sink to use. It was so nice waking up to several deer next to our tent! We decide to go down the trail and boy was that an adventure! No boat launch on the property, but we just drove 10 minutes to a lake and used our kayaks. Thank you so much for a wonderful time! We definitely will be returning.

Awesome spot! Tons of space in spot 3 and super close to the porta potties. There weren't a ton of bugs and the walk to the beach was easy! Super grateful for the running well water sink and the hosts were incredibly sweet. All around a great time in a gorgeous place.

We really enjoyed our stay! The trail down to the water is beautiful, and we took our paddleboards across to the nearby island and saw lots of seals. The trail is a little steep at the end as others mentioned but very manageable, maybe 10 minute walk in total. Site 1 was a little closer to site 2 than we expected from the map, but it didn’t impact our stay, the other guests were great and it still felt better than a typical campground. And once it got dark, the colorful lights around the property made the whole place feel magical. We loved it! Carrie was a very kind host, and we’d definitely stay again.

August Family Camping Trip

We were able to have a large family trip with a family dog, fit comfortably and have a great time. There was a lot of campers and it was great to meet new people. The hosts Carrie and John are wonderful and so happy to engage with their campers. This is our 2nd time and we will be back.

The hosts were very nice and helpful. We booked an RV/tent site that was not suitable for a tent and they allowed us to move to a grassy area which was very appreciated.

This was a very large site. It worked well for a teardrop trailer and a tent. Having portable water nearby was a plus. I would recommend it.

This HipCamp is ok. Harstine Island has beautiful and tranquil parts, I'm not sure I would describe this place fully as one of them. We were in site #1, which is the least private of the sites. The property is at the end of the road, which has a few, not-great-looking properties on the way, including a fully trashed out place at the intersection of the road. If you use a rooftop tent or back of truck camper, I suggest you bring bikes if you want to leave camp. There are walking trails around the property, but I would not describe them as "hiking" and it wasn't clear where the nearby state park stared (no signs). So, if you have a setup that includes your vehicle, having bikes would be helpful as there is a state park a couple of miles away. As far as being "tranquil", there is lot of active night wildlife around. Camp neighbors saw a bobcat and we heard the cats screaming, coyotes howling, and late-night gun shots from neighboring properties. And, there is a rooster in the flock. The other hipcampers were great neighbors, we all quieted down by 10:00-10:30pm on both nights. However, Carrie had friends over and we were woken up to very loud talking outside at the main house after 12:30am. It kept going, so I got up and texted Carrie to let her know we could hear them - never got any acknowledgement or apology- and it finally quieted down around 1am. Overall, not a bad time, but meh..

The property is great. They have a lot of fun trails, however we never found the water and even though there were signs posted in the camp site for other things, but no signs to water. We requested electricity, but did not get it.

A Forest on an Island.

We had such a great time at Hoopla Camp. The site was wide open, clean, and beautiful. Such a beautiful short hike to the Beach. Great directions given, and met with our hosts who were super kind and helpful. We had everything we needed.

Beautiful spot! The drive there wasn’t bad. The island roads are paved, there are hilly dirt/ gravel roads on the property. They were all okay for my 2 wheel drive van. The property itself was very cozy and tucked in the woods. There were adorable christmas lights strung across the trees which we thought was a great touch. The trail attached to the property leads through a magical state park. Most of the trail was a breeze but I will warn that not everyone may make it to the beach as the trail gets very steep at the end. We couldn’t make it all the way down with our tiny dog but it was a great hike regardless! The owners were very nice and communicative. We really enjoyed the fresh eggs. :) The portapotties were fine until I realized that there was no blue solution at the bottom of the tank. Which meant it got pretty smelly after multiple uses. Other than that everything was great. It was a super cozy and chill spot. Thank you Carrie/ Carries husband! :)

Love this place so much!!!!! Only thing I do have to say is getting to the water is very hard and with children I wouldn’t recommend it. But children 6 and under. Aside from that the owners are so sweet and very friendly too.

My group and I stayed in site 1. Carrie is sweet and they are so nice and helpful there. The site was large enough for 3 tents and our Truck with camper. They had a cool, fun atmosphere, hiking trails, access to the beach. The location was easy to find using Google Maps as well as Carrie's instructions. She came out to say hi when we arrived. Next time, I would stay in site 2, it is just a little bit bigger and slightly more private, but site 1 was still very nice and large. Getting to the beach is not hard, there is a bit of a steep grade at the end, but they have put in ropes to help with stability and it is not hard to get up and down from the beach at all, it is a typical nature path. If you have knee issues or general stability issues the use of hiking poles or a walking stick and good shoes is recommended. Overall, our stay was very nice, the camp is clean and the owners are very nice and helpful.

Family Camping Trip

We stayed in lot 2. The property is well maintained and clean. The hosts come around to greet everyone and are so kind. There are porta potties and a wash sink. We were able to fill our jugs often. The water is a hike away with a steep incline. But the view is amazing. I will definitely book again with John and Carrie. Thank you for an amazing Friday-Sunday.

The property is really beautiful and the spaces are a good amount of space away from other campers. They have portapotties and there is even a washing station for your hands with soap. Its really clean and we loved it there. The owners are awesome and super friendly. We cant wait til we can come back out again. Thank you for having us.

Very quiet campground! The sites are spaced along a grade just enough to feel more private than they are. A short steep walk to the state park beach gave us amazing views of Mt Rainier and the water. Outdoor sink next to port-a-potty was helpful. Carrie’s directions were clear.

I loved my visit to the Harstine Hoopla! There weren’t any other visitors during my stay, so me and my two dogs had a very quiet, pleasant visit. The access to the beach a big reason I chose this spot, and it was perfect! They’ve got a wonderful property, I might just have to visit again.

The campsite (#4) was secluded and right next to a beautiful path that led to the ocean. The kids had a great time making structures with sticks. Great variety of shade and sun, which in the night offered great night sky views. There was even a place to hang our hammocks. The rooster could use a lesson in evaluating the brightness of the sky before he sounds off, but we knew what we were getting into with chickens nearby. :)

My husband & I really enjoyed camping here with very quiet atmosphere, forested landscape with a few walking paths & a beach trail with some overgrowth. The strings of lights were a real plus lighting up the path to the portapotty that has a sink/soap next to it. Quiet roads to bicycle on midweek. Hosts were friendly & easy to talk to.
