Please note, this is HARSTINE ISLAND, NOT HERRON. I haven't gotten Hipcamp to fix this yet. There is a bridge to the island and the coordinates offered for site are correct. Also no bathroom set up at this time. Beautiful peaceful forest with trails, a great spot for elopements (elopement package separate) and a beautiful meadow with a small ringed fire pit for one site and a movable fir pit for another.. Maximum 2 sites in 5 acres. 70% of the Island is forestry but sound DOES carry a long way so it's not dead-quiet. Harstine Island has a BRIDGE, no ferry! One hammock is left up in the forest and there are places for your hammocks to be hung, as well. There is one spot on drive that is between two trees so you need to go slowly and be careful, 9 foot wide at wheel base only. Please take note of this. Easy for cars, a bit tricky for some trailer/RVs. Photo and video can be seen on webpage. Types of wildlife include barred owls, a nighthawk usually in summer can be seen at dusk, western alligator lizards, warblers, robins, crows, wrens, a bear has visited before (lucky me heard it 'woof' at me, bear didn't appreciate my singing), deer, others have seen red fox in the past but we have not been so lucky. Birder's paradise. one lovely review calls it a great place for forest bathing! Puget sound is SO clean here with a diverse salt water life. Orca and Humpback have been spotted nearby. You can track them at Orca Network or Puget Sound Whale Sightings on Facebook. Both '22 and '23 have seen orca making rounds with the incoming tide going under the bridge and circling the island! There is Jarrell Cove state park and a boat ramp at Latimer's Landing Boat Launch few miles way. There is a great local market at the community center Saturdays from 10-12 in the summer. No water view, this is heavy forest off a gravel drive into privacy. No power, no water, pack it in pack it out. Please be careful of deer when you are driving in and observe island speed limits. Familiarize yourself with the personal fire extinguisher at the site.

We have been busy on some upgrades in the off season including new furniture for the deck site, new sit spots on the trails, new benches and swings located throughout the forest and planting privacy trees. We are located on a very private property (the only houses you will see are across the inlet) surrounded by nature but only about 10 minutes from downtown Olympia and 5 minutes from I-5 and Lacey. The property is situated on the very south end of Henderson Inlet. We are on the tide flats so twice a day (at high tide) we have the opportunity to explore on the water in canoes and kayaks. The property is spread over 16 acres and is comprised of two large fields (one in front of our home and the other is a smaller meadow off to the side (hidden meadow) and forest land. There is tons of space for playing, exploring and tiring out your kids and pups! Wildlife is abound with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, shore birds and a variety of forest birds make this place their home. We are also frequented by the local deer who wonder through and say hi. About the campground: The campground is located in the far northeast corner of the property on the edge of the forest and meadow. In the common areas you will find the porta potty, shower and sink. There is also a supply closet that has the yard games and extra supplies. There is a hot tub situated right on the edge of the forest with peek-a-boo views of the inlet. You will also find garbage and recycling bins. There are trails throughout the forest along the 600 feet of water (tide) front. Along the trails you will find several different benches, seats and swings to relax and enjoy nature from. There are also fairies and gnomes who have been sighted in the forest. If you look closely, you might spot one too! We ware, if you touch a fairy or gnome they do lose their magical powers so please respect the mystical creatures. 😊 The sites are about 500 feet from our house and offer great privacy. You may see us throughout the day and evening coming and going from the campground, working on the property or playing with the kids on the trails!

The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. There is no smoking of any kind in the cabin or on the property. We are fortunate to live here, and we want to share the beauty with you. Please stay here and take a moment free of worry and free of hurry. About the hosts: Camas and her father, Randy, co-host this property. One or both will be onsite at all times should any issue arise. Please message if you need a last-minute booking and it appears to be blocked. We can't do an "instant book," but there's always a possibility that we can accommodate you. About the site: This 17-foot 2005 Jay Feather Ultra Lite trailer is clean and cozy - perfect for one or two people. A third person is welcome, but it will likely be a little cramped. The double bed has a memory foam mattress and is made-up with quality sheets. Towels are provided at no extra cost. The kitchen has a 3 burner propane stove and oven, a small fridge, a microwave, and sink. Coffee, tea, tea kettle, French Press, creamer, and sugar are provided, as well as a few dishes, a pot and pan, and utensils. The spring water is sourced directly from our property and filtered, so you can enjoy it from the tap! In my opinion, it's some of the best water around - feel free to fill up before you depart. The site is set back from WA-State Route 106, but only by about 20 yards. There is traffic noise during the day, but it's not too bad, and it is typically pretty quiet at night. Hopefully you enjoy the sounds of wildlife ~ birds, lapping waves, and even a creek add to the experience. A panoramic view of the estuary is one of the best parts of this property. It's dreamy, really. With the tide changing every 6 hours, you just can't get bored. You may fall asleep to tide flats and wake up to what feels like a lake. If you like being on or in the water - bring some kayaks, surf or paddle boards, and some high quality water shoes (never go barefoot!). You will have access to 400 feet of private beach and tide flats. Kayaking is tide dependent - recommendations for paddle times will be in the binder. (Currently closed to harvesting 6/23) If you have your shellfish license, feel free to harvest a few oysters or clams (depending on DOH recommendations) . Be aware - it is a rustic beach, and it is across the highway, so watch for traffic and watch your step on the beach. Our house is within sight of the trailer, but you have to make an effort to see it. From our house, we can only see the parking spot, and due to shrubbery & a shed, we can't hear talking voices, so it is pretty private. We do have 2 very friendly, small dogs who will undoubtedly alert us to your arrival, but they stay on our deck and quiet down right away. A welcome binder and maps will help you get an idea of the area. For a tiny town, Union has a LOT to offer - there are several dining choices within a few miles. Union was even listed in the top 10 "Prettiest Towns in America" in Forbes Magazine in 2009! Learn more about this land: One of a kind view of the Skokomish Estuary and Olympic Mountains. October – May out door BBQ or propane fire pit OK if you have ability to extinguish a fire. No smoking outside of your campsite. Glass containers/bottles, cigarettes/joints are not permitted outside of your campsite. You agree to dispose/recycle your own waste. Pack out what you pack in. Leave only footprints, take only pictures. Do not harm the wildlife. Dogs must be leashed (6ft max leash) at all times and cleaned up after immediately and cannot be left unattended in your Campsite. Speed limit throughout the campground is 5mph. Please do not park along any of the roads; they must be kept clear for emergency vehicles. The Camper will use the Campsite in a manner which is safe, orderly, lawful, sanitary, clean and respectful of the rights of other Campers The Campground is not liable for weather conditions, natural events, damages caused by wrongful conduct or carelessness of others, any injury, damage, or loss/theft. I have stayed in so many places across the PNW and this was by far the most special experience I’ve had. The host was so thoughtful and communicative and made that every part of my stay was taken care of. The private beach access to sit and watch seals and eagles was the highlight of my entire trip. The town is so cute and has so much to offer. The bed in the camper is THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED I have ever slept on including my own and I was very sad to have to leave it. This was the most perfect place to spend my birthday in peace. I wish every place I stayed could be hosted by people like Camas.

Great little area down by the water. There's a decent grass field right across the street where my dog was able to play fetch every morning. A mile up the street there's a gas station, laundromat, and a combo deli/convenience store. Most importantly, there's a black tank dump maybe a mile in the other direction in the state park, that only costs 5$ to use.

It was a great stay. The campsite was n8ce. They have a cute creek with a hammock the kids played on. Unfortunately this was a shrimp less trip for us. My only suggestion would be to have better potable water access at the camping sites, and try your key to the bathroom before the office closes for the night! Thanks for everything!

We stayed in the RV spot in May. There is also a cabin. The owner was very helpful upon arrival, providing an extra hose for us to use. The property is attractive and cared for well. Don’t miss the forest paths — one leads to a stream and the other to a picnic table. Newly constructed boardwalks provide access over what would be a muddy endeavor otherwise. We looked and listened for birds early in the morning, and heard numerous species, including Sooty Grouse; Northern Yellow, Black-throated, and Orange-crowned Warblers; Western Warbling Vireo; Brown Creeper; Ruby-crowned Kinglet; Black-headed Grosbeak; and many more. We came for the RV spot, but we would return for the birding more than anything.

We stayed for a week and wish it could have been longer. The views were great, very pleasant spots. Most of the week we were largely the only people there, and when others were in the couple of adjacent spots, there was still plenty of privacy. Definitely will stay again! Convenient to Olympia, Hood Canal, as we had things to do in both during the week. We had visits from tons of little brown birds, some deer (some of whom graze along the road/driveway), a few eagles and an owl. Simple interactions city dwellers generally can’t enjoy.

Who knew such a spot existed so close to home? I usually have to drive out 2-3 hours to find sites with such a view. Even though it was cloudy during my stay and only saw Mt Rainier the day I arrived it was still worth it. Incredibly quiet and peaceful. My parents came out for a day to visit and already want to book a trip back for themselves!

F1 felt a bit more private which was nice. It's right on the fence to the river, so it takes 1 minute to walk there. Enough tree coverage if you want to out your tent where there's more cover, but also plenty of open sky if you want to start gaze some. Between the site and the river, there's a flat sandy spot which is even better for start gazing. Certainly is light pollution though, so I wouldn't make it a main spot for star gazing in general. It's also very close to the railroad and the military base, so expect there to be train sounds, helicopter and distant sounding explosions lol.

Great stay! Communication 10/10 Facilities 10/10 Privacy 7/10, but to be fair, it is a meadow! :P Love the accessibility of this campground, close to Olympia/Lacey without feeling like you're near the city at all. I am a tent camper, and the site was clean and level enough for a comfy night on the ground. The shower and sink facility was absolutely killer. I look specifically for sites where i can access a shower when i'm out camping, especially before returning to civilization, and this was a great setup and a great experience.

Always dreamed of owning your own private island? Well, Hope Island State Park gets you pretty close to fulfilling that dream. The small island in Puget Sound is only accessible by boat, which means it doesn’t get too crowded and feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. Hike through the park’s old growth forests and salt marshes, or just chill out on the 1.5 miles of sandy beach. Kayaking or canoeing through the calm water that surrounds the island is also a super popular way to spend the day.

Unsurprisingly, clamming and fishing are good here, too! So hop in a boat and motor over to Hope Island pronto for some sun, sand, and—hear that?—silence.

It was just what I needed on my roadtrip! The only thing I would suggest for others is to put I the location exactly into Google maps or waze even. The coordinates tried taking to a different house, it's tricky if youre driving at night. Besides that it's a great deal!
