Boulderdash is quite amazing! We usually camp in tent campsites because we have a tiny camper, and we don't like to be among huge RVs. Boulderdash is a quite small campground but the design is great and RVs do not face each other and are not lined up, so everybody has privacy.
We stayed for the first two nights in the RV site 3, and for the last night we moved to tent site 1 by the river. The tent campsites are the best for who likes nature. While they don't have water or power at the campsite itself, they have a great outdoor washing area with potable water, electricity and a picnic table. There's a port-a-potty besides the bathrooms on the hilltop.
Our campsite had a fire ring, a grill, a great picnic table, and you're steps from the river. Water was pretty low but it was running because there are some springs that feed into it.
Everything at Boulderdash is well thought out, the bathrooms are super clean and cute, shower is FANTASTIC! Every picnic table has a flower arrangement and a jar of corn to feed the deer, and a small shop. Wi-fi made camping bearable to our teenage daughter.
Also fantastic are the hosts: Carole-Anne is super friendly, and received us with a pumpkin bread that she baked to all campers who were there on thanksgiving. That really set the tone right. She was super accommodating to our requests, and is just an overall nice person.
Their dogs and cats are super sweet, as are the deer that come every day to get sone corn.
We had a wonderful time!

Leann's land is in a remote, beautiful part of Hill Country --we were the only people camping on the property so it was extra quiet and peaceful. My 9 year old roamed the property with his trusty map and felt like a true explorer. The campground is close to Garner State Park and about a half hour from Lost Maples.

This place was seriously amazing! We did a tent spot. But the bathrooms were perfectly clean, the shared spaces were awesome especially the commercial kitchen has everything you could possibly need. Defiantly worth the stay for us because we were doing across country, so the hot clean shower was amazing. The host was very responsive and friendly. It was about an hour and 20 mins outside of San Antonio where we were visiting the Missions. We were able to pack our tent make some hot coffee and take hot showers and be at the Missions by 9. If we weren't just passing through and could have really enjoyed the camp for all it had to offer it would have been an even better stay. It was nicely lit and the instructions leading to were precise. My husband and I were able to walk around the property, and it was really fun and pretty.

12 ft pop-up camper
I had a great time and was the only guest for the two days I was there so Wilson suggested I stay at the “Main” campsite. It had an awning, tables, and everything needed for cooking and entertaining. Wilson is a solid guy, we had a great chat and enjoyed a beer. I highly recommend this spot. I’m an avid HipCamper and this one has became my favorite. Can’t wait to share it with my misses and friends. P.S. the site had some great trails for exploring.

The campsite was absolutely beautiful! I loved having some of the everyday comforts, while getting the outdoor camping feel. It was nice not being too far from town as we did realize we forgot to bring some items. Overall loved this place and will return in the future.

We enjoyed the nice river. It was beautiful. But walking along the river got tiring since we are in our 70s. It would have been nice to have some benches down by the river. We would have stayed there longer if there were places to sit. Thank you.

Had my son's boy scout patrol campout there this past weekend and had an amazing time. Wilson could not have been more hospitable and went above and beyond to make it a campout everyone would remember. He even guided us on a ~3 mile hike of the ranch and brought a friend with him to help the boys learn some new knots. The ranch is absolutely gorgeous and our campsite was perfect, nestled among a canopy of trees by a dry creekbed. Could not recommend this place any more, we will definitely be back.

This place rocks! Easy to get to, great space for tents and cooking and the kids loved the river. It safe and clean and allows the kids freedom to explore and play in a safe way! Communication and support was also exceptional.

Thank you for sharing your paradise land with us. We loved the spacing between the camp sites and the available accommodations on your property. Restrooms were clean and the available warm water showers were amazing. The live local music on Saturday night was great to unwind after a day of hiking. Thanks again Woody and family for sharing.

We always love our visits to Woody's place. This was our fourth year visiting and this time we brought my parents who absolutely loved it. We had so much privacy and loved the sunsets, quiet and views. We also loved walking to the main community area and catching some live music Saturday evening. Can't wait to be back next year.

Wilson is an awesome host! He met us at the entrance and lead us on the trail to our primitive campsite. The trail was a lot of fun and really added to the experience of being in the fall colored Texas hill country. Campsite was perfect with wraparound views. Also perfect for stargazing. We will definitely be back soon with more friends.

We enjoyed our stay at Seco Ridge! The #1 secluded spot worked out well and was pretty private and quiet. We don't need all the common amenities provided but for those who do, its a nice option. There were a few times communication with the host was delayed, and while WiFi was available, the password was not posted. Otherwise, a great spot! Would definitely stay again!

Overview
About
It’s easy to see why Garner State Park, located near Concan in the Texas Hill Country, is so popular, especially over the summer. Sixteen miles of hiking trails and biking trails are ready for exploration, even up to Mount Old Baldy with its sweeping views. Swimming, tubing, paddling, boating, and fishing are all a good time, and on summer evenings, jukebox tunes play at the historic pavilion built by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC), a tradition since the 1940s. Plan ahead to stay at one of the 350 camping sites, RV sites, cabins, and screened shelters.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for amenities: The Oakmont Camping Area provides easy access to the pavilion, mini golf, volleyball and basketball courts, boathouse, and the Frio River.
- Best to escape the crowds: The Shady Meadows Camping Area offers spacious sites with 20-amp, 30-amp, and 50-amp full hookups away from other campers.
- Best for groups: The Cypress Springs Group Camping Area offers space for 40 on the east side of the Frio River.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Campsites are very popular and book up fast. Make a reservation as soon as you know your dates. Campsites, cabins, and screened shelters can be reserved up to five months in advance and group camps 12 months in advance.
- If you don’t have a reservation, arrive at the park first thing in the morning to see about grabbing any unreserved sites available for walk-ups.
- If your plans are flexible, try to visit during the week, during non-holiday periods, or in winter for fewer crowds.
When to go
The park’s busy season is from Memorial Day through Labor Day, as well as on holidays and during spring break. In the busy season, the mini golf course and tube shuttle are in operation, and food is available for purchase. A float or swim in the Frio River is most refreshing in the heat of summer. Arrive early for summer dances, as gates close once the parking lot is full, sometimes as early as 8:30pm. Some camping areas (Persimmon Hills and Live Oak) are closed in January and February.
Know before you go
- The park store rents inner tubes, kayaks, and paddle boats, along with tables, barbecue pits, fans, and heaters.
- Locker rentals are available at the boathouse.
- The trails up Mount Old Baldy are fairly steep, with loose rocks and gravel; hiking shoes with support and good tread are recommended.
- Campfires are only permitted in designated rings.

An extremely popular park all year round with a variety of camping style options from tent to RV to cabin it's has it all. The campgrounds were always packed with patrons but the sites are big enough to allow for some privacy. Good and clean facilities.

We love garner lots of hiking, tubing, swimming but this one check the parks website if you want to float the river because sometimes in the dry times the river isn't flowing.

Amazing campgrounds (loved site #224, lot of trees) - secluded from all the busyness from other sites. Make sure to get there early, long waits to check-in. And keep all food put up the raccoons are fierce. :)

Garner is one of the busiest parks in Texas - lines can be as long as 3 hours to get in. Check the park's Facebook page and plan accordingly.

Shady Oaks is the best camp site if you don't want to be surrounded by lots of people. Most of the sites are not extremely close to one another. You are only a 15 min walk from the river and from Old Baldy Trail. You have water and electric hook ups as well if needed. And if you get there early on a weekend, try to grab sites 120 or 122. Both of those are almost separate from everyone else so you get more privacy than normal.

Awesome hiking trails. I recommend taking the Bridges trail, to the Fushee trail, to the Old Baldy Summit trail. It is not an easy hike, but you get to see all the views of the park.

I recommend not picking the sites near the showers/restrooms. Sure it seems like a great convenience but it quickly becomes a annoyance listening to the toilets flushing throughout the night. (lesson learned) Other than that, it is a great campground with easy access to the river to the East and some great hiking trails to the West.
The Frio is also my favorite river to float in Texas! Always seems like it is the perfect temperature in the summer and more laid back and relaxing than say the Guadalupe or the Comal.
