2 nights at Indian Blanket Ranch - Utopia Texas

Leann's land is in a remote, beautiful part of Hill Country --we were the only people camping on the property so it was extra quiet and peaceful. My 9 year old roamed the property with his trusty map and felt like a true explorer. The campground is close to Garner State Park and about a half hour from Lost Maples.

2 nights at Grapevine Springs Retreat

I had a great time and was the only guest for the two days I was there so Wilson suggested I stay at the “Main” campsite. It had an awning, tables, and everything needed for cooking and entertaining. Wilson is a solid guy, we had a great chat and enjoyed a beer. I highly recommend this spot. I’m an avid HipCamper and this one has became my favorite. Can’t wait to share it with my misses and friends. P.S. the site had some great trails for exploring.

Weekend Trip to Grapevine Springs Retreat

Had my son's boy scout patrol campout there this past weekend and had an amazing time. Wilson could not have been more hospitable and went above and beyond to make it a campout everyone would remember. He even guided us on a ~3 mile hike of the ranch and brought a friend with him to help the boys learn some new knots. The ranch is absolutely gorgeous and our campsite was perfect, nestled among a canopy of trees by a dry creekbed. Could not recommend this place any more, we will definitely be back.

Wilson is an awesome host! He met us at the entrance and lead us on the trail to our primitive campsite. The trail was a lot of fun and really added to the experience of being in the fall colored Texas hill country. Campsite was perfect with wraparound views. Also perfect for stargazing. We will definitely be back soon with more friends.

Weekend Trip to Get Your Frio On

We had such a wonderful stay at Frio on the River! We ended up having the whole place to ourselves, which made it peaceful and relaxing. The property is well cared for, easy to access, and close to everything we needed. Garner State Park was just a short drive away, and there were gas stations and small shops nearby. Kelly was absolutely incredible! She was proactive with communication and sent helpful pictures since we were arriving late after dark. She stopped by in the morning to make sure we had everything we needed, and she was such a lovely person to talk to. She made us feel welcome right away. On our way out, we discovered we had a flat tire and she even offered to help and gave us great advice about where to go. Her kindness really stood out and made the stay even better! Even with a burn ban in effect, we were still able to cook using the small barbecue grill on site. The amenities were great — clean restroom facilities, hot showers, and thoughtful touches around the property. We loved spending time on the porch swing under the big tree, playing horseshoes and tetherball, and visiting the chickens. If you’re more of a cabin person, there are plenty on the property for big groups! There is some traffic noise from the nearby road, so sound-sensitive guests may want to know that, but it didn’t bother us at all. We would definitely stay here again the next time we’re in the area. Such a warm, welcoming, peaceful place!

Weekend Trip to Indian Blanket Ranch - Utopia Texas

This ranch is in an absolutely beautiful location. We visited over the Halloween weekend with the native fall grasses in full beauty. At night we sat, had some wine, looked at the stars, counted satellites as they passed over and listened to the coyotes off in the distance. This is a great location to slow down and just get away.

Although my kids and I were only there for one evening and one day, we had an excellent experience. The hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating, even though our schedule for arrival changed quite a bit, and we arrived late. The cabin was clean and well stacked with the usual supplies. We would definitely returned.

Weekend Trip to Hiker's Escape on 6,000 Acre Ranch

This place is great. Loved that it is so remote. Our site was nice. The flowing stream is a really nice feature as well. Walking distance to a couple of great fishing spots. Caught my best bass on the fly to date, probably 4 lbs. There was not much natural shade, so glad we had our own canopy so we could enjoy the great view.

About

This unique state park includes 20 known caves and around 18 miles of wilderness trails.

Two caves are large enough to be significant to visitors. Stuart Bat Cave is aptly named for its nightly bat flight. Hang around until sunset. That's when hundreds of bats exit the cave and fly into the darkness looking for food.

These harmless creatures are Mexican free-tailed bats. They live in the cave from mid-March until October before migrating south for the winter.

The other cave is Kickapoo Cavern. It travels 1,400 feet underground, and the cave has some awesome rock formations. Tours happen every Saturday at 1 pm, so long as at least five people reserve their spot. A tour takes from two to three hours. That leaves plenty of time to get to Stuart Bat Cave by sunset.

This smallish park has five campsites with full hook-ups. Ten campsites have electricity and water. A group campsite accommodates up to 30 people.
