Just outside the quaint town of Austin sits a vivid reminder of one of Pennsylvania's worst disasters – the Austin Flood. In 1909, the dam was constructed on Freeman Run to power the Bayless Papermill downstream. Many wondered if the dam was safe. On September 30, 1911, Austin found out. Poor construction, coupled with torrential rain, resulted in the dam's collapse. Nearly 400 million gallons of water were released, destroying everything for 8 miles. At least 78 people perished in the tragedy. It was the second worst flood disaster in Pennsylvania's history and sixth worst dam failure in U.S. history. The tragedy sparked new legislation to improve dam safety, and the Austin Dam was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The ruins of the dam still stand, surrounded by a 76-acre park, as a tribute to the lives lost in the Austin Flood. Don't miss one of Potter County's best kept secrets!

There is wildlife including bear, deer and Turkey we often see ducks, eagles, gross beaks, and cardinals just to name a few. This is the place to come to park you RV and retreat to the creek in back of property if you want time to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. We have 2 camp sites ready right now both come with a fire pit. One is more secluded which is campsite #2 and the one with the valley view is campsite #1. Showers are seasonal. The last day for shower use is Oct 15th. You’re more than welcome to bring your own portable shower hook up and use the shower house for privacy. We apologize for any inconvenience. You will need to have a cigarette lighter access to use the shower to power the pump. We recommend bringing flashlights as our property is solar powered and there is no electric on the property. On low sunny days, solar lights may not last as long into the evening. On rainy days the property can be very muddy and access to the top of the hill to the sites would be best accessed with a 4WD vehicle as well as winter time with snow on the ground. If you'd like to charge your phone we advise you to bring back up battery packs as there is now electric hook ups on site. The most private sites are Cloud 9, Bunny Pit and Lilou's Landing. The cottage is located down by the main house and not at the top of the hill. I am 25 minutes from Wellsboro PA and the Pa Grand Canyon with a 62 mile rail trail, bike and kayak rentals are 40 minutes away, one hour to Finger lakes, locally there is lots of hiking, fishing and exploring. 4 wheel drive maybe needed in winter for my driveway.

Pear Cove is a great place to stay. We have stayed several times to watch our daughter’s final season playing soccer for a local college. We have always had a great time with no issues. The pad is as nice as you will find with newly poured concrete and equally new full hookups. The pad is the perfect size for our 30ft class A. It is a quiet location in the country but only 10 minutes to Lock Haven University and any amenities you may need. The hosts are also awesome people that make sure all is as it should be. We highly recommend this location.

Great spot! Directions that were sent were perfect. Sites were clearly marked, which was really appreciated since we pulled in at night in the rain. Firewood was delivered to our site and under a tarp (again, super appreciated) We had a great stay. Secluded, we didn’t have to speak to anyone the whole 2 days we were there. Stars were beautiful at night. Also, had decent cell service, which I was surprised by. No frills, just nature.

Did some drive-up tent camping here with some friends in October and had a great time! We had site 8 which was nice and secluded with a wonderful view of the autumn colors. Easy access to hikes to the old paper mill and Austin Dam right from our campsite. Porta-potty was right nearby and sparkly clean. And we had full cell service too (T-Mobile).

Ed upgraded me to the pavilion site for free, as it was available and it was raining, with more expected over the weekend. It was such a cozy spot, and I loved the lights and having a dry place to keep all my gear! The loft was a cool bonus! Ed and his dad were both friendly and super accommodating. I purchased the firewood bundle, and it was more than I needed for two nights. They even gave me some fire starter and found a space heater that I could use in my tent if I got too cold. I saw deer out in the field in the evening, and the crickets singing was peaceful. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the constant droning background noise which I think was from the papermill down in town. It kind of made for a white noise at night, just louder than I liked. But the hosts have a good piece of land up there on the hill. They had a map of the property. There are trails that I didn't even have time to explore because I was out visiting parks for much of the day. This campground was a great base from which to visit Kinzua Bridge, about a half hour away. They have a variety of campers to stay in also. It was a fun fall getaway, and the hosts were a pleasure!

Just outside the quaint town of Austin sits a vivid reminder of one of Pennsylvania's worst disasters – the Austin Flood. In 1909, the dam was constructed on Freeman Run to power the Bayless Papermill downstream. Many wondered if the dam was safe. On September 30, 1911, Austin found out. Poor construction, coupled with torrential rain, resulted in the dam's collapse. Nearly 400 million gallons of water were released, destroying everything for 8 miles. At least 78 people perished in the tragedy. It was the second worst flood disaster in Pennsylvania's history and sixth worst dam failure in U.S. history. The tragedy sparked new legislation to improve dam safety, and the Austin Dam was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The ruins of the dam still stand, surrounded by a 76-acre park, as a tribute to the lives lost in the Austin Flood. Don't miss one of Potter County's best kept secrets!

Fireflies tend to take over in the summer months, its a beautiful thing to see. It's the perfect place to get away and enjoy nature all while being close to restaurants and downtown Olean if needed. Enjoy cooking on our rustic fire pits or light a fire to just enjoy the crackling sounds and warmth at night. A safe place for kids to run around, enjoy family time and the simple pleasures Mother Nature has to offer. It's perfect for anyone who just wants to get away and immerse themselves in the country. We have 2 camp sites ready right now both come with a fire pit. One is more secluded which is campsite #2 and the one with the valley view is campsite #1. Showers are seasonal. The last day for shower use is Oct 15th. You’re more than welcome to bring your own portable shower hook up and use the shower house for privacy. We apologize for any inconvenience. You will need to have a cigarette lighter access to use the shower to power the pump. We recommend bringing flashlights as our property is solar powered and there is no electric on the property. On low sunny days, solar lights may not last as long into the evening. On rainy days the property can be very muddy and access to the top of the hill to the sites would be best accessed with a 4WD vehicle as well as winter time with snow on the ground. If you'd like to charge your phone we advise you to bring back up battery packs as there is now electric hook ups on site. The most private sites are Cloud 9, Bunny Pit and Lilou's Landing. The cottage is located down by the main house and not at the top of the hill. Learn more about this land: Our property is located near the tiny village of Glen Hazel, our unique area offers close proximity to many watersports and hiking opportunities. Visitors can watch bald eagles and osprey as you enjoy kayaking, fishing and nature at this primitive campsite. We have just one site. Our campsite is very private and includes a fire ring, a picnic table a trash can and a swing. Parking is available right at the site. It's just a 2 minute walk to the northernmost kayak launch on the East Branch of the Clarion River. Here you will find a public porta potty for use during the summer only. Several small jack dams will make your kayak experience a delight. We have a private 1 acre pond just a stones throw from the campsite that visitors can enjoy. Fishing is permitted in the pond, no license needed. Fly fishermen will enjoy the thrill of catching native and stocked trout in the most beautiful section on the East Branch of the Clarion River (PA fishing license and trout stamp required). Nearby is Bendigo State Park that offers free use of picnic areas and swimming in an immaculately kept pool. Just 1 1/2 miles away is the Dam Inn where you can stop for a beer or for a nice dinner on the deck. Adjacent to the campsite is State Gamelands #25. This enormous tract of public land is open to all for hiking, biking and fishing the pristine native trout streams, including Middle Fork, Crooked Creek and several others. Only a 3 mile drive will land you at the East Branch Lake, a seven mile long lake where you can put your boat in and fish, kayak or water ski to your hearts content.

Perched near a hilltop, these 32 acres contain some open land but also white pine woods and a hemlock/yellow birch swamp where deer, fisher, bobcat and bear can be found. Immediately adjacent are thousands of acres of state land with miles of trails good for hiking, skiing, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Pick apples from the trees, enjoy swinging in a hammock or climb into a tree house after spending the day on the trails. Angelica NY is just a few miles up the road, where you will find cute antique shops, dollar general, post office, gas etc. We love our little slice of private water side camping here in Angelica and hope you will take care of it like it was yours. Please no carving of names or dates in any structure, do not cut or chop down any living tree or vegetation. Our property has a lot of walnut trees- watch for falling nuts come late summer and fall! No dumping or putting anything down pit except toilet paper!

Backpackers rejoice―and grab a quilted blanket. Patterson State Park is home to two well-shaded picnicking pavilions, both ensconced within the quiet vegetation that caps the Susquehannock Trail. Aside from the park’s access to some of Susquehannock State Forest’s most sought-after trials, Patterson State Park is home to a few dispersed, primitive campsites that line that said trails; all those campsites are on a FCFS (first-come, first-served) basis. So pitch-up a tent, lace-up your well-worn hiking boots―and bring your favorite rod and reel. You’d be hard pressed to find a more tranquil weekend getaway―just make sure to uphold the payment honor system enforced by the park!
