Underhill Forest and Farm

6 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents36 acres · Dryden, NY
Underhill Inn is a small homestead located in the Finger Lakes region tucked in the rolling hills near Dryden Lake. We have a small garden, a flock of sheep and chickens, hives of honeybees and countless wild foraging on our 36 acres of pasture and hiking trails.   Take a walk down to Brockendock pond and cruise across the water in a canoe or paddleboat to find peepers, heron, toads and turtles. Drop a line in the water to catch trout, bass and sunnies. The chicken coop is always bustling and there are plenty of eggs to harvest each day. A morning hike on the trails usually kicks up the deer and wild turkeys and at night the barn owl will sing for you if you listen close. Adults and children are welcome to pet and feed the animals on the farm. There are farm tours available where you can learn more about our mushroom garden, composting techniques, blueberries, felting, and more.

Tryals Park Camp & Obstacle Course

3 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents5 acres · Locke, NY
About the Property: Our unique property boasts quiet camping on a beautifully manicured MotoTrials Riding and Obstacle Play Course. 2025 marks our first year offering camping to the public, and we look forward to HipCampers joining us in our unique venue. All 3 camping sites are nestled into the Obstacle course. Trials riders and non-Trials Riders alike will find much to enjoy here. Campers unfamiliar with Trial are welcome to take advantage of a Lesson on one of our Rental Bikes, while the Obstacle Course is also super-fun on foot (for walks or runs), mountain bike, trials bicycle, or for playing with your RC rock climber! We have night lighting to turn on at your request, even if just to sit in the evening and enjoy the lights reflecting off the pond-We surely do! We are located on NY 38 but our traffic is low (Log and Milk Trucks, Farm Tractors and commuters). It is very peaceful here. Your camping can be as private, quiet and leisurely as you wish. The views and big sky are gorgeous in our corner of farm country. Our small pond provides entertainment w/ turtle sunbathing raft and lots of nature's visitors. (Canoe available) Pets are always welcome off-leash if you are comfortable. About the Trials Riding: We host 6 Mototrial events each season (see below) and if spectating appeals, you can plan your trip to coincide. You're in for a treat if you've never seen these nimble motorcycles do their 'thing'... up, over, and around the obstacles. Events are busy and exciting, but no worries (!) trials bikes are not loud and riders are friendly and considerate. If spectating is not your thing- no worries either. Non-event days are very laid back. On any given day if Trials riders come here (just to practice or instruction with Mike) it's not loud or invasive, nor interferes with any camper training or playing on the course. When riders are here (barring events), it is typically only 2-4 riders at a time. Multiple activities co-exist quite nicely here as there is plenty of room for all. There are many days no one is on the course at all (!) and you may have it all to yourself or possibly with another camper. Hope to see you in our slice of heaven! (Trial Event Days 2025: June 15, July 27, August 17, September 14, October 12, November 9)

Heart's Desire

1 site · Tent775 acres · Truxton, NY
'Hearts Desire' is our name for the camping sight of your choice on our organic dairy farm known as Bundy Creek Farm. Our family has been farming this land since the depression era when our ancestors moved east from California during a drought and were enamoured with our green rolling hills and abundant water resources. In all, this land is the backdrop of the story of five generations of the Murray family. Through good times and bad, our dairy cows have been the backbone of the farm, grazing on the mostly hillside pastures. Forages and grains are grown in the valley and hilltops, all surrounded by hardwood forests or wooded swampland; all together encompassing 775 acres of land. Maple syrup is also often made from our top of the hill sugarbush. And yes.....a river runs through it.....or actually several creeks....Learn more about this land:Nestled among the rolling hills that are the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, our organic dairy farm is the backdrop for this camping experience. Tell us what is your 'hearts desire" and we will accommodate you as best as we can on our 800 acres which encompasses hundreds of acres of woodland, pasture and crop land, creeks and a 80 acre navigable swamp (seasonally). Wildlife abounds with deer, coyotes, turkey, fox, geese, ducks, small mammals and an occasional eagle. Hike, bicycle, kayak or just chill in the beautiful surroundings. The best camping near Green Lakes State Park guide

Overview

About

The scenery at Green Lakes State Park lives up to its name, with sprawling old-growth forest and both its Green and Round Lakes displaying a blue-greenish color. Visitors can swim or rent a rowboat or kayak to explore the lakes in summer, while winter offers snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. There’s also an 18-hole golf course, hiking trails through a gorge and across hills, and more than 170 species of birds to look out for. The park has two campgrounds—Pine Woods and the primitive Rolling Hills can accommodate tents, RVs, trailers, and campervans.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Just outside Syracuse, Green Lakes is a popular city escape, which means that you should make weekend bookings as far in advance as possible.
  2. Bookings can easily be secured online or by phone, up to nine months in advance.
  3. From mid-May to early October, same-day reservations are permitted only until 3pm. No walk-ins are allowed.

When to go

Spring and summer are the busiest seasons and the best times for enjoying paddling and swimming in the lakes and playing a round of golf but fall and winter have their own appeal. The park’s lush foliage explodes into rich colors in fall, which is also the ideal time for tackling the park’s hiking trails. In the colder months, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are possibilities.

Know before you go

  • No outside boats, kayaks, or canoes are allowed on the lakes. Rowboat and kayak rentals are normally available from the Boat House Wednesdays through Sundays, Memorial through Labor Day.
  • Up to two pets per site are welcome, as long as they are kept on a leash no longer than six feet. Pets are not allowed in buildings or swimming areas.
  • There is a fee for vehicles entering the park. If you plan to visit multiple New York state parks, buying an Empire Pass card can save you money.
