Due to a high risk fire zone, no open fires. Due to the proximity of the tents right next to Vega Rd, sounds from vehicles can be heard. Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coastal live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands of North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees. There is wildlife like deer, turkeys and owls and so much more. We have horses and a donkey, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds. There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing. We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you. You may forage for plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. Our two campsites include water and electric hookups, and are only appropriate for self-contained recreational vehicles and trailers (no tent camping). You will not have another camper next to you! There are no size constraint on RVs or trailers. We have plenty of room for a second vehicle. We do offer a port-a potty. Cell service is very good. The Valley View site can be expanded to two sites, both with water and power hookups. The second site (Valley View 2) can only be booked together with Valley View - please inquire if interested. This is helpful for guests who have separate rigs but want to be close to each other. Our property is a great base camp for your Santa Cruz and Monterey County adventures! We are 15 minutes from Capitola Village, 30 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz and 45 minutes to Monterey. We love to host guests and will provide information about things to do and see in our area. We often loan our State Parks pass so that you can venture out to Point Lobos, Wilder Ranch, Sunset Beach, Natural Bridges and more. Spend a day at one of the beaches in Santa Cruz, Capitola, Aptos, Rio Del Mar, Davenport, Half Moon Bay, Monterey, or Carmel and return to your private oasis. Or Explore Silicon Valley from this centrally located parcel. Kim Son Meditation Center and Mount Madonna Center are approximately 15 minutes away. There are also wonderful wineries throughout the mountains here. The trip to the site will begin with a three mile drive on a private dirt road.  Being on the very top of a mountain brings more seasonality than the surrounding cities.   Please be prepared for any kind of extreme weather. Summer: Shade is highly recommended it can get into triple digits. *Spring/fall: Temperatures are generally mild but high winds are possible. *Winter: Typically cold and windy. *During rainy/muddy conditions 4x4/AWD is highly recommended.  It is possible for it to get windy, foggy, rainy, hot and sunny, and even sometimes snowy. Please note: the nearest grocer is 30 minutes from this site. Emergency supplies are available for delivery to your campsite. Cell phone reception is good on most carriers.  Pets are allowed.  Enjoy your time howling at the moon, star gazing, bird watching/wildlife viewing, or relaxing with your favorite libation. Don't forget your camera! Since this is our first year renting our land we have found that August is a high wasp season time in the mountains. We are doing everything humanly possible to hunt down each and every Wasp for your enjoyment. It was amazing being able to see the stars and wake up to the sunlight through the camper. The campfire was in a perfect spot to make s’mores. Solo traveler. I loved parking my class B RV here with a beautiful view of the Strawberry fields. Manresa State Beach parking lot only 1/2 mile away. A beautiful beach and surf spot with wide, sandy shores. Walk for miles! Hosts were very welcoming, helpful and kind. I felt safe there!

Thaddeus and Mona are the sweetest and their place is amazing! It’s a beautiful property and you can tell they take pride in it and put a lot of work into the guest experience. My husband and I were trying out a camper van rental and driving down the coast. This spot is fantastic - it has everything you would have at a typical campground - except the crowds! It’s quiet and peaceful with pretty views of strawberry fields and Ray and Robin are lovely hosts; they gave us fresh eggs! As others have said there is a beautiful beach about an 8 min walk away that is dog friendly. We would definitely stay there again!

We had a great time in the Sky View Cabana! Ludo and Vaza were excellent hosts. The cabana is nestled in their backyard, but feels quite private with a beautiful view of the valley below. The bed was super comfy and the cabana was stocked with a mini fridge, sink, shower, towels, coffee, and a few kitchen essentials like mugs and cutlery. We lounged on the hammocks, went for a walk through the woods, and enjoyed the sunset on the deck. Fantastic getaway!

This is our second time here - and it was even better than the first as the baby goats are growing and able to roam around the property as well..so we spent most of the day just watching the "goat TV" - and it was awesome! The outdoor kitchen is great, as is the firepit area - both fun spots to hang out, relax and enjoy the view. If you're into goats and turkeys and dogs and cats, this is definitely the place for you - we highly recommend it :)

About

Located in the sheltered half-moon of Monterey Bay, Monterey State Beach is the largest beach in Monterey, made up of three separate beaches around a mile apart. Thanks to a shelf of sand that gently slopes into the bay, it’s one of the only beaches in the area safe enough for swimming and water recreation. Beachcombing, tide pooling, kite flying, fishing, surfing, kayaking, and scuba diving are all popular activities here. Although there are no campgrounds at the beach, private campgrounds, RV parks, and Laguna Seca Recreation Area nearby offer numerous overnight options for campers.

When to go

Summer is the busiest time in Monterey and Monterey State Beach. Temperatures are at their highest, though coastal fog and wind are still common, especially in the mornings. Early fall is a good time to enjoy warm weather and smaller crowds. The popular and long-running Monterey Jazz Festival is held every September. Look for gray whales in the bay from December to May and killer whales in late spring and early fall.

  • A beach wheelchair is available for use. Accessible parking spaces and accessible chemical toilets are also available at both parking lots.
  • Dogs are permitted on the beach from the Roberts parking lot south, and must be leashed. Dogs are not permitted from the Seaside parking lot north.
  • Anglers 16 and over must have a valid fishing license.
  • Fires are not permitted on the beach.
