This pristine and remote half acre of paradise is nestled between three hard and soft wooded lots set on the farther side of Peacham's Hidden Gem of Martin's Pond. The pond, which houses a Loon sanctuary, is situated on the back side of the expansive Groton State Forest, underneath the Looming Beauty of Devil's Hill. Remote Camping at its finest, campers will have access to a rustic out house and solar shower, as well as the clean waters of the pond for their use. Two Kayaks, with paddles and adult life vests are available for use on-site. Life jackets must be worn at all times. Please message for details. A small Shed on property can be accessed if dry storage space is needed. Firewood (one bundle & kindling) and fire pit will be provided. If you would like additional firewood during your stay, please use the "add-on" feature and select how many bundles of wood you would like. Pets are also welcome, but please review the pet-deposit under "add-ons." Campers are expected to bring their own accommodations: Tent, Sleeping Bag, pad, cooking stove/ fuel, etc. For bikers and backpackers, the extensive back roads of Peacham, VT as well as the hiking of Devil's Hill and other parts of Groton State Forrest should provide ample space for discovery. Not to mention the pond itself for boating enthusiasts. Currently, power and cell service are non existent on the property. Quiet camping generators are not discouraged so long as they are not in use during quiet hours. Just remember that Cell service is SEVERELY limited and you're encouraged to download any media prior to arrival. If at any time you need our assistance the closest signal is the interstate. If you require a more tailored experience, we can make arrangements to meet you at your arrival to ensure a smooth transition to the campsite. Any other questions, Just ask!

I have 3 separate campsites, each with their own pathways and privacy from each other. Your visit here will allow you many choices of ways to relax. My land abuts the 700 acres of school property behind me and I have trail and path access right from my yard to many miles of an old road bed for walking, biking, hiking, or exploring the length of the brook. There is a waterfall across the street. At least 5 different swimming holes and the water is cold and refreshing! I am 20 minutes from the state capital, Montpelier, Vt. You have access to my delicious pure clean spring water from the hose. There is a pizza/restaurant/bar in my town just 6 minutes away. Please, no fireworks, you'll get me banned by the town officials! If you camp here you will feel like you are in a forest, but will be able to drive anywhere with ease.

Socks Family Farm comprises 30 acres, high in the hills of Cabot VT. We book only one reservation at a time, to give our guests a unique, private experience. Campers can choose from a wide open site with a view of the mountains, or a secluded site in the woods, with the babbling year-round brook in the background. The fields are meadowland, where we pasture our animals, cut hay, and enjoy the company of a diverse cohort of grasses, flowers, insects, and birds. On clear nights, the stars are lovely, and you'll be treated to the breathtaking sweep of the Milky Way. During the day, you can linger in the gardens, visit the sheep and chickens, wade in the pond, hike in the woods, walk the lovely dirt roads, or head out on your bike. If you're ready to range further, we're a short drive to hiking, paddling, fishing, swimming, epic mountain biking, quaint eateries, microbreweries, and more. St Johnsbury and Montpelier are the closest cities (25 and 35 minutes). Burlington is 1.25 hours, and Montreal is 2.5 hours. We moved to this land in 2007 with our two small children, and began developing a homestead. Over time, we built 2 greenhouses, a large equipment shed, planted and fenced an orchard, berry & perennial patch, & vegetable garden, made several flower gardens, set up systems for pasturing sheep and chickens, planted native shrubs and trees, and completely renovated the farmhouse. We practice organic regenerative agriculture and landscaping, with a deep commitment to strengthening and diversifying ecological systems. We offer free farm tours, and those who want to help and learn are welcome. We love the beauty of this land, and look forward to sharing it with you.

The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. We've named our home "SiloSide" as tribute to the magic we feel on the non-road facing, silo-side of the barn, where you'll be camping.

The Bread and Puppet, Highland Center for the Arts, Barre Oprah house, art galleries, etc within an hour drive in any direction. A great place for children, I have swings and trees to climb, games, archaeological digs, scavenger hunts finding 10 different antique farm implements, and learning how they were used, to learning about mini microbe's and how to be friends with pollinators. Massage including scar release, and MPS, Cranial Release, energy work with tuning forks and singing bowls are available. Singing bowl concert in the gardens can also happen! Expect the unexpected! The pond is fed via solar pump which is located in the wetland cow pasture just beyond the site. The camp site is situated between 2 woods a wetland and our pick your own apple orchard. A variety of bird species can be seen and heard throughout the day and in the evening. The area is a well used animal transition zone with deer, black bear, bobcats, turkey and many others. A fire pit is available, swimming in the pond is allowed. There is a traditional 2-hole outhouse 600ft from the campsite. Power hookup for charging is available on the property as well. Fall campers will have full access to our corn maze, apples, apple cider, cider donuts, dry hard cider and hay rides. The site is 6.5 miles from the capitol of Montpelier. Our town forest featuring miles of hiking trails is located just one mile from the site. Our parking area is often used by bikers and walkers for convenient parking.

The Orchard House at Peck Farm Orchard is the building where we serve our customers during our orchard season September through October. The property is located on a dirt road in rural Vermont and is surrounded by conserved land in current farm use. Please note: This property has been repurposed for the very special event of the full eclipse April 8th, 2024. Travel and weather in Vermont in April can be like summer, like winter, something in between and all of it in one day. Please pack and plan accordingly. Spring(March-May) travel can be very muddy. The building is made of rough cut wood from our farm property and features a cook stove, power, refrigerator and access to an outdoor fire circle. The floor is concrete so an air mattress or better yet a cot is recommended. Is you plan on using the wood cook stove please let us know. While the cookstove can provide some heat and the ability to cook it does not heat the whole building very well. There are outlets for use in the building. There is one string of plug in lights, no other lighting is installed. A traditional outhouse is located just 50 yards from the Orchard House. Drinkable well water is available upon request with 24 hours notice. 2 miles from the Orchard House is a small cooperative country store with food supplies. The Peck Farm Orchard is located on a beautiful 4 mile loop frequently used by runners and walkers. There is easy access to local hiking trails and snowmobile/skiing trails. The orchard and parking area is located on 18 acres with access to trails spanning more than a thousand acres.

Kathleen and John’s cabin is a treasure. It’s exactly as cozy and beautiful as the pictures suggest, and well stocked with the essentials for a comfortable stay. I spent 4 days in December there during consistent snow fall and high winds and never suffered for it. There was ample wood for the stove and fresh water. It was an ideal setting for my trip. And beyond all that, the hosts were extremely thoughtful and caring, even going so far to help me unstuck my car from the unforgiving vermont snowscape. I can’t recommend it enough. 10/10

2 nights at Vermont Rustic Retreat

The view is beautiful! We were lucky to have arrived after a few inches of snow had fallen and it stayed on the trees the whole time we were there-it was absolutely gorgeous! We saw deer cross the road, heard owls and coyotes. Trails at the end of the road. As it states the cabin is small but Kathleen made excellent use of the space and 2 adults in there was just fine. Very cozy, more than enough wood to keep the woodstove going and have campfires. Everything you need is already provided. Was cloudy when we were there but on a clear night it would be a fantastic place to stargaze. Kathleen was a wonderful hostess. Very accommodating, very responsive and just a sweetheart all around.

Weekend Trip to Woodbury Meadows

Jon was most accommodating and a wealth of local information. He loaned us an electric heater for our camper so we didn't have to use the noisy one installed. The driveway was a bit daunting for backing up but we did it without too much effort. There's a great hike with waterfalls on the property and a cute cafe close by with good food and live music. The bathrooms were the cleanest and nicest I have seen camping! We will definitely return!

We loved staying at Kathleen’s place! The cabin is very private, feels completely safe, and the view is fantastic. Everything was very clean and nicely organized, and the minute you arrive you have everything you need. Even though the weather was cold, we stayed cozy and warm thanks to the wood stove, which was surprisingly efficient. The kindling and firewood were fully stocked as well, making the stay easy and comfortable. A wonderful experience overall! Thank you:)

There are so many amazing qualities: privacy, lack of light pollution, views, etc. that already have us planning our next visit. Weekend Trip to Birch Tree Acres--Tent Site

Lovely, secluded campsite in the woods. Potable water and trash (plus recycling and compost) located at the barn, about 300 ft away. The provided firewood was excellent, kept dry underneath a tarp at the site. Picnic table and bench, as well as two Adirondack chairs, were a nice touch. The composting bucket toilet, located under a small permanent structure at the site, was very clean and did not smell at all.

Beautiful location, accommodating and welcoming hosts. Very nice clean bathrooms, showers, and laundry! Best I've ever seen at a camp ground. Sites are pretty private with their own sink and tent. It is in the middle of nowhere but pretty easy to find off the main road. Dog friendly. Wish we could have stayed longer!

About

Set on the tree-lined shores of Lake Groton in northern Vermont, Stillwater State Park is best-known for its family-friendly nature programs and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails in the adjacent Groton State Forest. Swimming, boating, and fishing are other popular ways to enjoy the park. The campground offers 59 campsites suitable for tents and mid-sized trailers and 19 lean-to sites, many within walking distance of the beach. The nearby Groton Nature Center hosts naturalist programs, guided hikes, concerts, and other family-friendly activities. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing are fun ways to enjoy the park in winter.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations are available 11 months in advance and can be booked over the phone or online.
A limited number of lakeside campsites are available. Book as soon as you know your travel dates to be guaranteed a prime lakeside spot.
Stillwater State Park does not set aside any first-come, first-served sites. If you don’t have a reservation, you can make same-day reservations by calling the park directly or inquire about unreserved sites when you arrive at the park.

When to go

The Stillwater State Park campground is typically open from the week before Memorial Weekend through mid-September. The park is open year-round but services are limited outside the summer season. Although summer is the busiest season in the park, mosquitoes can be troublesome so come prepared with buy spray. From late September through October, Stillwater State Park puts on a dazzling display of fall colors. Fall colors typically peak around mid-October.

Know before you go

Campsites include fire pits and picnic tables. Restrooms have flush toilets and coin-operated showers.
Stillwater State Park is just one of seven state parks in the Groton State Forest. The entrance fee to one park provides free access to all other parks in the Groton State Forest.
Dogs are not allowed at the swimming beach but are allowed elsewhere at the park. Campers must pay an additional per-night fee for pets.
The nearby Forest Country Store offers basic groceries and camping essentials.

Stillwater Campground

This campground was fantastic! Tucked away in a beautiful part of Vermont, the campground is right on Groton Lake with a swimming area and designated boat launch. There's also an access path to the Montpelier & Wells River Rail Trail. The campsites are really nice with tent sites and leanto options. The overall facility was really well kept. What stood out the most at this campground was the staff! I was having car issues and the staff was extremely helpful in helping me fix the problem! They kept checking in and asking if I needed anything, helped me research solutions, and even on their own time tried to tinker with my car to figure it out. It was above and beyond expectations! I enjoyed my stay here and will make a point to return

Stillwater Campground

We camped there in 2017, loved the long bike trails on the old rail bed! Did some hiking and swimming. Great State Park!
