Learn more about this land: Only 1.5 miles from our cozy little capital city, we are a six minute drive to downtown but set in a wooded landscape bordering protected land and North Branch River Park. The campsite is set away from the house and neighbors and looks down into a peaceful hemlock forest and wilderness parkland. It can accommodate up to a 9x12’ tent. Most of our property is on a slope so you'll get a little workout walking back and forth to your vehicle.Only 1.5 miles from our cozy little capital city, we are a six minute drive to downtown but set in a wooded landscape bordering protected land and North Branch River Park. The campsite is set away from the house and neighbors and looks down into a peaceful hemlock forest and wilderness parkland. It can accommodate up to a 9x12’ tent.
What to expect

As many people have said, Erin is very kind and attentive and his space is great! I don’t intend to be too critical because it was overall an excellent experience but there are a few things campers should know. I would definitely stay there again if I am around! What you get: A cozy, safe and relatively primitive camping experience in a cool guy’s backyard. Fresh water is stocked and there’s a fire pit that’s a bit too inclined to be comfortable to sit for multiple folks. It’s not super private, as we could hear the family hanging out during the day and were woken up in the morning by some neighbors doing some tree work with saws and power tools. The small tent site was soft and level. Otherwise, we saw some animals and had a lovely time camping midsummer. The bugs weren’t too bad and there was even a station to wash your hands next to the outhouse. We brought gear to make coffee over the fire but ended up driving 5 minutes into town to drink coffee at Capitol Grounds, haha.

100% wonderful. Booked last second, arrived about an hour after booking, and the host was so accommodating. The campsite is also a limited footprint, if my tent were any larger it may not have fit so should be considered. When we went the host offered us drinking water, firewood, a nearby hose to extinguish the flames, and pointed out where a very nearby hiking trail was located (also inclined terrain). A fantastic spot for bikers to stay as the nearby trail is built for biking. Also super conveniently located near town. Thanks so much!! If I am in the area again I would definitely rebook.

Peaceful Private Campsite

Turtle Hill Gardens provided the simple overnight campsite that we were looking for on our bikepacking adventure around Vermont. We got in later than desired, but Erin was accommodating, and provided us clear directions to the campsite. It was exactly as described, and provided us a peaceful night after a day of riding. In the morning, we easily packed up and enjoyed the quiet before riding off.

Erin and his family had such a wonderful property! It was so beautiful and quiet. The forest was lovely and we had a great time staying. We had a campfire, and they provided us wood as well as water for our stay!

Beautiful camp spot in a private section of the property surrounded by conifer forest and ferns Good setup for the outhouse and composting toilet Steep path down to the area with the camp spot so be prepared for a short hike. Erin and Lindsay were very helpful and provided water and fire wood and kindling for the fire circle area. I had a wonderful stay at this site and would happily recommend turtle hill to other Hip Campers.

An exceptionally beautiful site, we arrived late from Canada so we had no phone service to contact the hosts, regardless of the late hour of our arrival they were more than welcoming and helped us bring our kit down to the site. The site is gorgeous and tranquil, we even saw a family of black bears! Erin and her partner made sure we had enough water and we were never worried about contacting them for recommendations, advice, or help with our stay (although none was required) I highly recommend this beautiful yet fantastically accessible site

Quiet and tucked away right in Montpelier. Just stayed the night and left early so did not use the amenities but there was an outhouse setup and campfire.

Erin created a very well thought out camping spot that has everything you need while still retaining a feel of being completely in nature. There is running and drinking water and soap, which is so useful. The privy is a nice distance away from the camp spot while still being very convenient. The privy is not a port a potty, which is great, His property is beautiful and well maintained and he is conscientious about bear care. Erin is a very welcoming and kind host. I couldn’t be happier with my stay!

Erin was super welcoming and provided us with more than we ever expected! We booked this campsite for the night before the 2024 Solar Eclipse, which happened to be about 4 days after the area got some huge snowfall. We are always extra cautious about weather conditions so we brought our warmest gear and some extra blankets for insurance. When we arrived Erin provided clear instructions on where to park, and met up with us to show us the campsite. It’s a short walk on a trail behind their house (about 10mins in slushy conditions if you’re carrying stuff). He provided us with fresh drinking water, had a little hand washing station set up outside the outhouse, and even let us use some of his firewood. The campsite had been cleared of snow and the family were very courteous and made some suggestions to help make the stay more comfortable. An amazing trip overall!

Erin and his family were outstanding hosts and were very kind and thoughtful. Erin responded quickly to any messages we had and provided us with a camp fire upon our arrival! The property is close to Montpelier but far away enough that you feel like you are in the wilderness! Would definitely recommend! ⛺️

As soon as you pull into turtle hill, you can sense how deeply Erin and his family care for the land. We really appreciated how courteous and helpful he was when we arrived. The camping spot was perfect for our weekend visit to Vermont. There were lots of birds and small mushrooms all around.

I would recommend this place to anyone! Best location in town! My husband and I came into town later than expected and they were very accommodating to us even though we arrived 2 hours later than expected! It was everything we needed in a beautiful location :)

The camp site in Erin’s backyard is gorgeous! It is surrounded with amazing greenery and canopy of trees. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to get away from all the crammed and busy campgrounds. It felt like we were camping out in middle of a state forest. And the best part is that it was just minutes away from town center.

Feels peaceful and secluded yet walkable/bikeable/drivable to Montpelier. Erin was very kind and helpful. We had a great time hiking Mount Hunger per his suggestion. He provided us with plenty of drinking water, wood for a fire, and a water bucket to suppress the fire. The toilet was comfy and clean, complete with toilet paper, soap, and water. His cat was very cute and friendly.

Erin was a fantastic host. Very much enjoyed meeting him. The camp site was remote and lovely. There was also a nice fire pit adjacent to the tent site which Erin graciously supplied with wood. I would definitely go back. Thank you Erin.

Turtle Hill was perfect in every way. The site was soft and flat, buffered by trees and close to the trails and gardens on Erin's property. He had water ready for me when I arrived. An outhouse is in close proximity to the site with a washing station. The site over looked a pine forest with ferns. Quiet, private and peaceful while being minutes from Montpelier. Erin's communication was superb and he's a super nice guy. He has incredible gardens to explore.
