Wildlife and wildflowers abound as you approach, where you’re greeted by a private cedar porch with two chairs. Inside your tent you’ll find an ultra-comfortable queen bed with down comforter, night stands, luggage rack, and a small console table with necessary amenities. Our sites are entirely off-grid, including solar lights and stocked with several gallons of fresh drinking water. Outside, a private fire ring with cooking grate is included at each site.
Clean portable toilet facilities are located near the parking area, along with firewood for purchase. Once you’re settled, explore our marked trails leading to multiple fire pit sites situated on unbelievable lookouts high above the Red Cedar River. If you’re interested in splashing around the river, just ask and we’ll suggest the best route to access for your preferred activity.
Spend your days exploring all the nature that our unique location has to offer, or check out one of the many excellent bars, restaurants, breweries, and coffee shops just 1 mile south in Downsville or 7 miles north in Menomonie. The yurt itself was a beautifully set up — spacious, warm, and very accommodating. Even with the cool October evenings, the heated yurt kept us toasty, and gathering around for games of dominoes while being warm and cozy. If you’re looking for something memorable and a little different, I recommend this yurt. The blend of nature, comfort, and family connection made it one of our favorite getaways. We’ll be back next fall!

Joyce was a lovely host and met us when we arrived. Her camping area was flawless and scenic. She provided very kind small touches and the environment was relaxing. We used her site as a stop over during a longer trip but would certainly recommend for a family just wanting to bond and spend a quiet weekend outside together. We have dogs and had the luxury of letting them frolic off leash because we had the place to our selves. There is a small county highway fully out of sight and you can only slightly hear vehicles.

This place was so cool! I loved staying the YURT. The surrounding wilderness and stream on the land made it so peaceful. A lot of bird watching, wildlife sightings, and gorgeous flowers and trees. I enjoyed the comfort of being high up with a locked door and windows open to hear the crickets. I will return for another trip. Anytime of the year would be fine since there is heat and air conditioning. So lovely!

2 nights at Red Cedar Glamping
The site felt private and mystical, as it’s buried back into the trees. There were a few short walks taking people to different parts of the bluff where the river and wildlife can be watched and heard. The tent itself was clean and the bed was very comfortable, with overstuffed blankets and beautiful bedding. We didn’t try the sauna but I imagine that, how it’s situated, colder trips would be well treated by using it. Loved Kickback’s Angler Shack! Communication was great from Jolene. The property and cabin were so well kept. The raspberry bushes were a plus. We spent the majority of our time in the river and by the fire. The grill and amenities were a plus! We will definitely be back!

This was our second time staying at The Angler Shack and we love it even more each time! It’s peaceful, perfectly tucked away just the right distance from town, and has everything you could possibly need. The upgrades with the water and grill are fantastic — they’ve thought of everything. Truly a magical little getaway. Can’t wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Kickback’s Angler Shack
Jolene was great and very hospitable! A welcome retreat near the cities. Beautiful property, lovely host, cozy cabin.
Really loved sitting on the deck in the matching rocking chairs. Enjoyed the amazing breeze when windows open. Comfortable sleeping options (including the futon). Very easy walk from the parking area to the cabin. Path is compacted and wide. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Very impressed! Also many gorgeous wildflowers and wildlife around.
Only thing to be mindful of is the compost toilet is taller because of its design, so those with mobility limitations should just be aware. (Sturdy step-stool is provided). That being said, it is a really nice compost toilet.
Would absolutely come back again in the future. Thanks!
