This beautiful land is a magical, cultivated ecosystem, a patchwork quilt of diverse gardens, flowing fields, and sacred woodlands all stitched together with the threads of creeks and paths. This is a place for connection, education, and sanctuary. There are many ways to connect and explore this land; wander through the rose, herb, and vegetable gardens, sit and meditate in the Weavers Grove, pick herbs and greens to add to your evening meal, or sit with your knitting and watch the sheep. Whether you come to escape or to connect, you will find it here. NOTE: This is a working farm we have animals, dirt, sticks, bugs, and poop, and lots of opportunities to "connect" with Nature. All of our amenities are shared spaces, designed to foster community. You will find good signs with clear communication here. All of our lodgings are off-grid with no electricity or running water. Water, electricity, and wifi are available in the kitchen, garden, cafe, and lounge areas. Please bring battery-operated lights, bedding, and a pillow, unless otherwise noted. We request that campers check in before 8 pm. More than a campground this is a destination, come for the weekend or stay for the week. We have camping, glamping, and cabins available throughout the summer months. We also offer tours of the animals and gardens. There is a shower house, bathhouse, summer kitchen, library, cafe, fiber studio, yarn shop, and lots of outdoor seating. Additionally, we have safe potable water, a portable toilet, and two charcoal/wood barbeques available for your use on the patio. Come, walk in the gardens, smell the roses, put your feet in the creek, then sit by the fire and watch the stars come out. Compass Rose Farms is the host and mother to many businesses and projects. Our gardens provide flowers, food, medicine, and the magic for weddings and celebrations. The Weavers Grove holds our spiritual center and sanctuary, a place to wander and connect to land and spirit. The Farm supports our flock of Icelandic sheep, Compass Rose Wool Mill, Hipcamp, and our many fledgling start-ups.

Come stay in our beautiful safari tent and experience our flower farm and old-growth Maple Forest. Located in the heart of Olalla near the Colvos Passage waterway, just a short ferry ride from West Seattle, 20 minutes from Tacoma, and near the quaint town of Gig Harbor. **Just upgraded to two queen sized memory foam beds!! Lovely 100% cotton sheets and cozy blankets will keep you nice and comfy on those cool nights. Two extra twin sized cots are available in the "Extras" section of the listing. The cots fit in the tent with the beds too, so there is plenty of room for all four.** Our beautiful camping spot offers serene privacy and many comforts. You will feel very secluded on our 5 acre property. Our parcel is partially wooded and partially cleared for our flower farm. But it adjoins neighboring properties that have an additional 20+ acres that are totally wooded giving the feeling of being further away from civilization than you are. In addition to the safari tent there is another flat and wood-chipped pad for an additional tent for your buddies or children to have their own space. Enjoy an outdoor shower on the edge of the woods with on-demand hot water. You’ll also have your own custom made steel fire pit with fire wood available for purchase (or you can bring your own). We have an outdoor picnic table as well as a table inside the tent for late night card games. We may have the prettiest outhouse on Hipcamp! There's a lovely little bathroom with a composting toilet and a sink with running water. We allow up to 6 people (no pets) and request that parties respect the limit so that our composting toilet can keep up with the demand with minimal servicing while you are here (to maintain your privacy). Feel free to walk and enjoy the flower field on a self guided tour, but if you’d like more information about the flowers and how they are grown, or if you’d like to pick flowers, please contact us to set up a time for a guided tour and help picking. Please no U-pick without guidance. We’d like to make sure to point out that there is convenient and dedicated parking for campers but the camping spot is about 200 feet from the parking area and over uneven ground. A cart is provided for unpacking your vehicle. Because it is very dark here at night, we would request that campers arrive before dark to safely find their way and unload with adequate light. We have two very friendly dogs, a farm cats, so we are not allowing pets to come camp at this time. Legit service dogs are welcome though. Things to bring: cooking gear, flashlights/headlamps, food, drinking water, ice, cooler, battery operated stuff (no power provided), towels for shower. Things provided: Weather proof tent, two queen sized beds and bed linens, outdoor and indoor tables chairs, solar-powered lights, composting toilet, firepit, outdoor shower with hot water, parking for 2 cars. NOT provided: bedding or sleeping bags, cookware, dishes, power of any kind, ice or food. Local Activities: Bring your kayaks and SUP boards to the Olalla boat launch for a paddle in the lagoon or walk along the beautiful beach. Come experience some great local pizza and beer at the Olalla Bay Market or wine at the Olalla Winery. There is lots to explore in downtown Gig Harbor, from restaurants, breweries, and distilleries to fly fishing or antique shops. There are also local trails, parks, and hikes that we can recommend if you are looking for a quick day adventure. Many local, public golf courses are nearby too.

Safari tents in Puget Sound with a private bathroom guide

Overview

Stretching from the Pacific Ocean clear over to Seattle, Puget Sound and its surrounding communities offers a balanced mix of things to do and see, particularly for people who cherish the arts as much as the outdoors. The region is home not only to Seattle, Washington’s only truly big city, as well as to numerous islands and coastal towns geared toward travelers in search of rest and relaxation. There’s even Olympic National Forest, where you’ll find quiet hiking trails, pretty beaches, plenty of campgrounds, and even a natural hot spring.

Where to go

Greater Seattle

Washington's biggest city offers urban fun within striking distance of serious nature. Despite its urban vibes at the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass, Seattle is chock-full of wooded parks, including the 534-acre Discovery Park on the eastern banks of Puget Sound.

Island County

Named for its many islands, this county on Puget Sound encompasses nine islands in total, including sprawling Whidbey Island—at the northernmost stretch of the sound—and Camano Island. Both islands are tourist hotspots, with tons of state parks and campgrounds, many of them right on the water. Whidbey in particular is known for its thriving arts scene.

The Kitsap Peninsula and Bainbridge Island

Across Puget Sound from Seattle, the Kitsap Peninsula and Bainbridge Island offer a variety of outdoor activities, with plenty of parks, hiking trails, marinas, and campgrounds. This region is also great for lovers of the arts and history, with museums and galleries dedicated to Native cultures, naval history, and the arts.

The Olympic Peninsula

On the opposite side of Puget Sound from the Seattle metro area, the Olympic Peninsula features some of the region's best opportunities for hiking and water sports. Here you'll find lakes, ocean beaches, forests, and numerous state parks, with an abundance of forested campgrounds. Olympic National Park and its emeraldine temperate rainforests are also set on the peninsula.
