This magical, 40-acre, cultivated ecosystem, will wrap around you and leave you enchanted. Enjoy this peaceful, country retreat, as a place to rest and reconnect with the earth and yourself. Please NOTE: This is a working farm, we have animals, dirt, sticks, bugs, poop, and lots of opportunities to "connect" with Nature. All of our amenities are shared spaces, designed to foster community. You will find signs posted around the property with clear communication. All of our lodgings are off-grid with no electricity or running water. Water, electricity, and WIFI are available in the shared kitchen, garden, cafe, and lounging areas. It is recommended you check the flight schedule for dates and times the jets will be flying. Depending on the direction they happen to be flying that night, it can get quite loud. In those instances, ear protection is recommended. About a third of summer weekdays the OLF is used. The jets do not fly on weekends and holidays. Having said all of this, most campers enjoy the airshow, as it is a unique opportunity. The camp site is approximately 6 acres located in a quiet secluded forest area near highway 525. A fire pit is provided on non-burn ban days. A flat grassy area is big enough to enjoy your recreation activity of choice. Bring your binoculars and check out all the different kinds of birds. Nearby wetlands provide lots of food for birds, bats, and dragonflies. Other wildlife you may see are deer, bunnies, owls, quail, butterflies, garter snakes, and raccoons. Lots of native flora can be identified with your plant identification app or book. The beach is about a mile away where you can hunt for sea glass and enjoy the waves or build yourself a shelter out of driftwood. The mostly flat gravel road can accommodate any size RV. 10 minutes to Coupeville, Greenbank Farm, Ebey's Landing, Port Townsend Ferry, and Patmore Pit Dog Park. 20 minutes to Freeland 25 minutes to Oak Harbor 30 minutes to the Clinton-Mukilteo Ferry 35 minutes to Deception Pass What you will need to bring: - firewood; apologies but I am unable to continue providing firewood. - self-contained RV, camper van, motorhome, or camping gear - water - grill or rack for fire pit - camp chairs/table - mosquito repellent - flashlights - recreation equipment Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash and in the presence of the owner at all times. The Guemes North Homestead is ten acres of gorgeous tall trees, clearings, homestead buildings, pond, trails, renewable energy gear, and more, set in the middle of the north end of Guemes Island (a 7-minute ferry from downtown Anacortes), at the end of a 1/3-mile dead-end driveway. It has nature, quiet, and privacy. It includes a 30-year-old orchard, a developed garden with fine soil, a pond with rope swing and waterslide, several solar and wind energy systems, and multiple buildings. It's about a mile in two directions from the Pacific Ocean beach, and is surrounded by wooded acreage that is criss-crossed with trails and friendly neighbors, on an island with about 700 year-round residents and an active weekend/summer population. Homestead owner Ian Woofenden is an expert in renewable energy systems. He's lived off-grid at the homestead for 40-plus years, where he raised his large family and managed several small businesses. He now consults, sells, writes, and teaches about renewable energy in the U.S. and in Central America. If your idea of a great getaway is to help out and do physical work, just ask Ian. There's always something going on at the homestead, including garden and orchard work, trail building, wood cutting, construction, sawmilling, and more. Ian built this place, and has a broad knowledge of lots of homestead and sustainability topics. He loves sharing his knowledge and experience with guest, students, and interns. Welcome to Olympic Wanderer! This fairy-tale nature retreat creekside cabin will wow you with its stellar location, lush grounds, hot-tub, and stylish interior. The cabin is nestled in a forested community next the hood canal, famous for its rich waters and shellfish harvesting. This is the perfect base for your adventures on the Olympic Peninsula, and is a great central location close to endless amazing hiking trails, including Olympic NP and multiple state parks less than 10 minutes away. The highlight of the cabin is the log bridge across the creek! You will feel like you are on an amazing hiking trail or in a fairytale on the rainforest-like grounds with a babbling brook or rushing creek running through it depending on how much rain we have had. Our property is directly across the street from access to the national forest service roads with miles of roads and trails. PLEASE NOTE BEFORE BOOKING: The cabin is older and rustic, and we are renovating it over time. There is a very steep/narrow staircase that excesses the second floor, and the twin bed artea is part of the lofty and is not an enclosed bedroom. The living space and kitchen are open concept, and there is seating for 4 at the dining room table and 2 countertop barstools as well. The adorable farmhouse style kitchen has everything you need to cook meals during your stay, including all cooking essentials and basic spices. We also have pancake mix and quick oats for our guests in case you forgot to bring your own breakfast. If you are lucky enough to stay in late summer, you can walk across the street to pick wild blackberries. The living room has a large TV and a nice selection of DVDs to choose from. We also have Starlink for both internet and streaming services. Cell service can be hit or miss depending on provider. The bathroom is on the lower level, as well as the first bedroom which has a queen bed. The 2nd bedroom opens up with a barn door and also has a queen bed as well as beautiful views of the creek and trees. For this reason it is my favorite bedroom! At the bottom of the stairs is the mud room which is a an enclosed patio and is a great place to store recreational equipment or wet/muddy items. It also allows excess to one of the decks which features outdoor seating and a bbq.

Welcome to Tranquil Acres. We have transformed our five acres in the “Pearl of the Peninsula” for the world to be your oyster during your stay with us. The Big Quilcene river is a water wonderland with private riverside access available to all campers just a short easy walk from each campsite. Here is where you can enjoy the cooling relief from the Summer heat, bask in the sun on cool Spring days, listen to the soothing sounds of the water and wildlife, interact with fellow campers, as well as fishing for Coho salmon in the Fall for a full meal deal experience. (Fishing license required). The river access “Common Area” is for all campers to enjoy with plenty of space to also have some alone time. If you are a more adventurous camper, Tranquil Acres is perfectly located to be your “home base” for extended stays, allowing you to explore the many wonders that the Olympic Peninsula has to offer as easy day trips. We are happy to answer any questions and share some of our favorite hikes, lakes, restaurants, and historical areas we have loved over these many years. My family has lived in this area since the early 80's and after almost a decade of renting this property and becoming a part of the amazing community of Quilcene, I had the opportunity to buy this land and “pay it forward” by creating Tranquil Acres for all to enjoy. My children that grew up here, continue to help and support this endeavor as adults. “It’s a King Thing”. Camping Etiquette: **Please read before booking** First and foremost, the road leading down to the camping area is a steep gravel drive. Going down isn’t usually a problem…it’s getting back up again. When you get to the bottom, the rest of the roadway leading to all campsites is a natural dirt road with tree root humps that isn’t designed for low clearance cars. AWD or 4WD is recommended, but please check with us before booking to see if your vehicle can have access all the way to your campsite and make it back up the hill. If not, we do have parking available at the top of the hill safely located next to our house, and transport options available to help you pack it in and pack it out without risking damage to your vehicle or the land and still enjoy a wonderful camping experience. Please inquire before booking if you have a low clearance vehicle so we can discuss your options. Please be respectful of the land. We are a “pack it in, pack it out” campground and wish to provide this space for folks to enjoy for many years to come. The Quilcene transfer station is located nearby and is open on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday. (hours may differ on holidays). We do offer waste disposal as an add-on at checkout. Recycling must be separated from solid waste and contained in the bags provided and will have clear instructions of what is recyclable. Potable water is not available in the camping area. It is okay to use water from the river if you have a certified filter system (at your own risk). If you are the bold and brave that likes to bathe in cold waters, please be mindful of the eco-system and the damage that soap can do to our natural habitat. Dishwashing is not allowed in the river at any time. Like most campgrounds, our quiet time is 10pm-8am. Please be respectful to your camp neighbors at all times. Sounds carry easily in the woods. Play, explore, have fun, and stay awake to enjoy your space for as long as you want, just be mindful to use “camping voice” after 10pm. Communication is encouraged and appreciated! If you need anything, are having any issues with fellow campers, or just have a question… please don’t hesitate to get in touch… day or night. We love being able to share this wonderful land for folks to have a joyful camping experience in our neck of the woods with their fellow campers. Dogs are allowed at all campsites. Cats too if you have a camping cat! Please be mindful of your neighbors and that not everyone feels comfortable around dogs or may be allergic. Off leash is allowed if your dog is not aggressive with humans or other dogs. You know your dog best, and we will trust that you will use your best judgement in any circumstance while you are staying with us. If there is an issue in this regard, we will ask you to keep your dog leashed at all times, or under extreme circumstances may be forced to ask you to leave. We would rather not do either of those things, so please be aware of where your pet is at all times. Everyone loves a campfire! No one loves a wildfire. The lushness of the Olympic National Forest can be deceiving. Wildfires do still happen here and we expect you to extinguish your fire if no one is at the campsite, before going to sleep, and prior to departure. Firewood is provided as an add-on at checkout and will be at your site when you arrive, or you are also welcomed to bring your own. You will need to provide your own paper and flame to get your campfire going. There are many small sticks and twigs around every site to use as kindling, but please don’t use any wood you find on the land that won’t entirely fit inside of the rock ring. This is dangerous because wood holds heat and can continue to burn and ignite leaves, sticks and twigs outside of the firepit. If it is windy at any point during your stay, we respectfully request that you don’t have a fire while the winds are blowing. You can see if there is a recreational fire burn ban prior to arrival by visiting www.orcaa.org or send us a message. It is rare that recreational fires are banned in this area, but it does happen on occasion. Burning any kind of garbage in your campfire is not allowed at any time. Doing so means it is no longer a recreational fire and could permanently stop us from allowing campers to stay here. We offer a variety of add-on features that can turn your camping adventure into a glamping experience. Need a tent? No problem, we will even set it up for you and take it down. Don’t have a stove to cook with? We have that too. When we say: “It’s a King Thing”… it means we intend to provide you with an experience that leaves you feeling like Royalty. Thank you for taking the time to consider us for your camping adventures. We are thrilled and grateful to share our Tranquil Acres with you and look forward to seeing you soon! Add-on descriptions (Updated) Essentials: Toilet Available: 2 composting toilets are conveniently located for all campers and cleaned daily. Bring your own TP and please don’t leave the roll in the Shat Shack or Poop Hut when you’re not doin ur bizness. There are instructions posted if you have never used a composting toilet. Pets Allowed: Off Leash You know your dog best. Please be mindful and aware if they are aggressive towards other dogs or humans. Fire Ban in effect: (no) River rock ring firepits available at all sites. You are welcome to bring your own firewood, or add-on at checkout. Lots of sticks and twigs on the ground available for kindling. Bring your own paper and flame to start your fire. Please don’t use wood from the land that doesn’t fully fit inside of the firepit. Amenities: Kitchen Available: Grill over firepit available upon request. Forget to pack a much needed cooking utensil? Please ask and I may have one you can borrow. Picnic Table Available: All sites have a picnic table. No Potable Water: Bring your own bottled water for drinking/cooking, or you can access river water with your own certified filtration system. We do not recommend drinking or cooking with water from the river that has not been filtered, doing so is at your own risk. We are just minutes away from 2 different stores in Quilcene. No Showers: Bathing in the river is allowed if you are brave enough to handle the cold water. Please be mindful of the natural eco-system and use only biodegradable soap minimally. The Big Quilcene river plays an important role in this region supporting wildlife, aquatic life, plant life and human life. No Wifi: But all major phone providers do get service in our campground area. Pack it out: Garbage/recycling is available as an add-on feature, otherwise, please pack it in/pack it out and leave it better than you found it. Laundry Absent: There is a laundromat in Quilcene just a short drive from our campsite. Available offers: Firewood $6.00/bundle Locally sourced firewood with a range of sizes will be waiting at your campsite when you arrive. Bring your own paper and flame, and there are many small sticks and twigs on the ground just waiting to be useful as kindling! (Cash or Venmo is accepted if you need to order more during your stay. We are not allowed to charge your card for additional products/rentals after you book your site.) Tiki torch fluid- citronella based $10.00 A great ambiance for the great outdoors and helps keep pesky insects out of your camp. (Tiki torches are provided at all sites.) Garbage/Recycling $15.00 ** We are offering this option on a trial basis.** Containers will be provided for your garbage and recycling at your site during your stay. Clear instructions will be provided for what is recyclable and what is solid waste. PLEASE adhere to the instructions so we can continue offering this service to future campers. Large tent – sleeps up to 12 - $55.00 We will set it up before you arrive and break it down after you leave. Large two room tent with 2 doors. Broom will be provided, and we just ask that you sweep the floor prior to departure. (This rental is not available for Site 4) Small tent – sleeps 2-3 $25.00 We will set it up before you arrive and break it down after you leave. There are exceptions to this…so please message me if you have more than one vehicle in your group, or you have a low clearance vehicle so we can discuss. Extra cars can park safely next to our house at the top of the hill. ACTIVITIES ON THE LAND OR NEARBY BIKING: multiple mountain biking trails for any level of rider. Check www.singletracks.com for information about trails located in Quilcene and nearby areas just a short drive away. FISHING: The salmon start running on the Big Quilcene in September. Fishing license required. There are other options for fishing around the area depending on what you want to fish for, go ahead and message me if you want some insider information. HIKING: There are many hikes close by with a variety of difficulty levels. I have hiked pretty much all of them and would love to share some of my favorites with you. PADDLING: Quilcene Bay, Lake Leland as well as other options just a short drive away. WILDLIFE WATCHING: We have deer that wander through the campground from time to time and in the mid-late summer it is a real treat to see their fawns. There is a fun assortment of birds, owls and even herons and hawks that can be spotted while hanging out at the river in our common area. If you are lucky, you can even spot a bald eagle passing by. Grey whales and Orca whales migrate north in the late Spring and Summer and there are whale watching tours available in Sequim and Port Angeles. There is also the Olympic Game Farm Park in Sequim that is a drive through wildlife preserve that is a lot of fun for the whole family just 45mins away. (Absolutely no hunting is allowed on Tranquil Acres and we respectfully request that you keep your distance from wildlife for the safety of all involved.) NATURAL FEATURES ON OR NEAR THE LAND: BEACH: There are several Bays and Lakes in the area that I would love to tell you about that are easy to access…please don’t hesitate to ask. FOREST: We are located on the eastern side of the Olympic National Forest, and there is a Ranger Station just a couple minutes away. The rainforest eco system of this area is truly an adventure worth exploring, and our Tranquil Acres has all the native trees and plants of this unique region that makes it feel like you are living in the heart of a rainforest…but with less rain, and slightly warmer temperatures than the central and western side of the Olympic rainforest in the summer. LAKES: Lake Leland Lake and Crocker Lake are the nearest most accessible lakes in the area. There are many others, please feel free to ask about any lakes you find in the area and I can let you know if it is suitable for what you are wanting from a lake experience. RIVER, STREAM OR CREEK: Tranquil Acres is located on the Big Quilcene River. It’s beautiful and most of the time secluded (except during salmon season in September when there are fisherfolks that have public access to the river itself). There are many other rivers in the general area, but none quite as awesome as our little stretch of the Big Quilcene. SWIMMING HOLE: Yes, various options at different times of the year…and It’s COLD! Bring a float device for a gentler experience in the hot summer sun or have a bold and brave Polar Plunge regardless of what month it is. (AT YOUR OWN RISK, please be mindful of how strong the river current is at different times of the year and do not let young children into the main current without a life jacket or without adult supervision. Highly recommended to wear water shoes at all times/all ages.) The Big Quilcene is a River that anyone could slip and fall on the rocks regardless of age and how low the water is. WATERFALL: The Falls View loop trail just a few miles south of Quilcene is an easy 1 mile hike that has a spectacular view of the large waterfall that flows into the Big Quilcene River. I am happy to talk with you and answer any questions you may have about local adventures in the area. MOUNTAINOUS: Mt. Olympus reigns supreme over them all, but the Olympic Mountain Range has 9 other distinct Mountain peaks, and there are a variety of ways to experience this unique mountain range…just ask me how, I am happy to share the variety of ways to enjoy the Olympic Peninsula. FARMS: We have multiple organic farms in the area where you can purchase seasonal fruits and vegetables. There are also many community activities at various times of the year to get to know this little Pearl of the Peninsula.

End of the road. Start of an epic camping weekend. River to the side, Cascade foothill surround. Each site has river access except for lookers left which is not accessible due to the steep grade. Close to the north cascades. Minutes from live music, bars and quality mexican restaurant. Rails to trail for bikes and walking. Tward the end of july the river starts to recede opening up more possibilities of having interaction with the river. That being said its crucial you keep an eye out on your kids. We had a guy out here who almost killed his kids multiple times underestimating the current. Watch out!!Kinda going for the peaceful, listen to the river and birds, vibe. Would rather there be no music and if there is then super low and off by 7. Sauna available after 3pm

We had such a lovely time at Valhalla. The directions were easy to follow and the grounds were gorgeous. We knew it was going to rain the entire weekend we were there but we didn't care. We took beautiful hikes through the woods and it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. They have done a wonderful job making Valhalla a peaceful piece of paradise away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We’ll definitely be back!

Such a great experience! This is the perfect Hipcamp for those that want a hub for surrounding activities! I enjoyed the site and the host was very appropriately communicative. The description of the place is perfectly honest. Expect a visit from fluffy dogs and lots of farm and wilderness sounds. I heard a barred owl when I first arrived. Tasty water and the sauna and bathroom/shower is perfect!

The cabin at Valhalla once again proved to be a wonderful autumn destination to relax amongst the trees, listen to the babbling stream, soak in the sun atop Look Out Rock and cook up some good food around the campfire. I can't say enough good things about this place, it is really an oasis of calm.

Valhalla tree farm is beautiful and so serene. The different birds calling and talking through the sounds of trees moving in high winds, so good! The pup and I went exploring through the property and trails feeling like we were fully in Ferngully. Our shelter camp site on Huckleberry Hill was perfect. Dave clearly puts a lot of thought and care into providing the best experience. Not only was he communicative and responsive, but he was also accommodating. Thanks to the shelter at our site, we didn’t drown in the torrential downpour! This property is highly rated, the pup and I agree 💯

We had such a lovely time on Jacob’s property. It felt remote and private, while being a short drive into town. Our pup was a little too interested in the farm animals so we did keep her on leash, but she had a great time sniffing around on a long lead. Jacob was so friendly, checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Would highly recommend for an upgraded camping experience.

We enjoyed Shawn's Creekside A-frame! Shawn was very responsive and very informative. The A-frame is great not beat up at all. Its very nice, warm, and cozy! It's not too far from the creek hence Creekside and a little more walk is when you'll find the Quilcene River which is nice and beautiful.

We used this cabin as a base for exploring the forests and parks on the Olympic peninsula, and we had a blast. We were able to explore everything we wanted to, and return to a nice cozy and quiet cabin to rest and recover for the next day's dventures. The cabin had everything we needed for relaxing, and the hosts were responsive and had help available if anything small came up. Great place, would rent again if in the area.

Weekend Trip to Valhalla Tree Farm
The A-Frame is spectacular. The host is kind, welcoming, accommodating, and a joy to work with. I've now visited this and the same owners' other cabin 3-4 times and will continue to! Comparing the 2 below (I love them both - just depends on what you're looking for) Similarities: --Both have: -super- fire pit areas, great views (one woods, one more open), privacy, keypad lock on door, access to trails, gas-powered indoor burner for cooking, outdoor shower with hot water (in season), ~4" foam mattresses on all beds, parking for at least 2 vehicles, picnic table, outdoor chairs and table on a deck. Differences: --The A-frame has side-by-side sleeping arrangements, wider than a king bed, so great for singles AND great for couples. The cabin has bunk beds. --The A-frame has some pots, pans, and dishes to help on a rainy day. Last I was there, the other cabin didn't have dishes/cookware. --Running sink water at each (in season), indoors at A-frame and outdoors at cabin. --The cabin has gas-powered heat and the A-frame has a wood stove. --The A-frame has a composting toilet, cabin has an outhouse. --The tables at each are different orientation - A-frame's can be folded up/down but you sit side-by-side. Cabin is 2 benches and you face each other. Seriously, though, you can't go wrong with either!

We enjoyed our stay at the Glasshouse! The concept is really cool and we enjoyed the large space. Rochelle was responsive and quickly was able to find someone to fix the woodstove when we were having problems. If you are not confident in starting a fire I would definitely bring a fire starter. I am confident in my fire making skills, but we were not able to get a fire going, which made for a chilly stay. It feels relevant to note that the weather forecast was incredibly rainy so while the wood was dry, the humidity definitely had an effect (nobody's fault). Luckily there is a baseboard heater in the bedroom space as well as electric blankets so we were plenty warm at night! The dishwashing/handwashing station wasn't super obvious to us, and we hope in the future there will be a sink space to do these things.

I loved staying at the bungalow! It was the perfect rainy PNW weekend. The property is beautiful and quiet, the cows and pigs were adorable! Very close to the beach and the view of the lake waa amazing. So many more amenities than I was expecting and if it was sunnier I would have taken advantage :) The bungalow was very clean and had everything I needed for the night. I hope to return in the summer!

My wife, dog, and I stayed at the A frame cabin and had a wonderful time! We loved all the views from sunrise to sunset and exploring the forest. We kept super cozy with the amazing wood stove and firepit outside for extra fun. Valhalla tree farms with all the sites, trails, ponds, and forest is absolutely stunning, charming, and magical. You will find numerous hikes in the Olympic National Forest within a short drive, a gorgeous waterfall and swimming hole within 5 minutes, parks, Whitney Garden & Nursery, boat launches, crabbing, clamming & oyster digging, wildlife watching, enjoying the Hood Canal, and much more! Or, just sit back and relax in tranquility, as the property sits at the end of a cul de sac just before entering national forest land. Be sure to leash your pets and keep a good eye, as there are wildcats, coyotes, and bears in the area. Learn more about this land: Pull your RV or trailer onto this lot and take in the beautiful southwestern view of Mt. Jupiter ridge and a peek-a-boo view of the Dosewallips River! Listen closely, and you will hear the sounds of the river below. The lot is equipped with power and water hookups! Please be aware the water hookup is near the main gate entrance and the power is about 40 feet apart, so you may need a long hose (see pic). Enjoy the view from the large deck, firepit, or picnic table overlooking the river, valley, and mountains. This lot is truly a little slice of heaven! Within a few minutes, find yourself at Rocky Brook falls (see pics) for a spectacular view and even a swim if you so please! Pleasant Harbor Marina (also shown in pics) also within 10 minutes! You will also find many hiking trails and parks nearby! There is weak cell service on the lot, so you may or may not be able to connect. I get 1-2 bars with Sprint. While this property is not very far off the Dosewallips road (35 mph), it is generally very quiet and peaceful. You may hear cars and motorcycles from time to time, but very faintly. The lot is at about 350 ft. elevation, so you may get noise traveling up the valley from the residential community below (to which I belong), such as dogs, people using chainsaws, etc. There is hunting allowed in the national forest, so you could potentially hear guns in the distance during the day, but that is rare. There are a few close neighbors, so please be respectful and quiet, especially in the evening. Please bring your own firewood when campfires are allowed and please do not forage for firewood on or around the property. Lastly, while the sightings have been few and rare, the neighbors have seen bears, cougars, coyotes, and bobcats near their homes and this property. So keep an eye on your children and pets, especially if off-leash (your pet of course!) The property also slopes a bit where the deck starts, so again, keep a close eye on the kiddos. You have a very good chance of seeing the local Roosevelt Elk that travel in huge herds around Brinnon (See pics). They sometimes lay down and hang out on the grass on the property! Make sure your pets have their flea and tick updates!

Incredible location! This sweet cabin is nestled at the base of Mt. Jupiter, directly between Dosewallips beach and the Olympic national Park. There's lots of gorgeous, mossy maples, shaggy cedars, and elk herds roaming free. The Cabin is easily accessible from the road, and has parking available. There's a secluded fire pit behind the cabin with a seasonal stream running by. Its a relaxing place to hang out for a few days, and/or excellent basecamp to explore the amazing forests, mountains, and beaches nearby. Also, there's lots of great foraging to be done (nettles, mushrooms, and oysters; oh my!) GPS LOCATION: When driving to the cabin, your GPS will tell you that 'your destination is on the left'. This is a lie. The cabin will be on the right. There is a metal gate that is closed with a chain but not locked. CABIN LAYOUT AND SLEEPING AMENITIES: The Cabin is just a little guy; only 16'x20'. There is a kitchen, living room, and dining room area, and the bathroom is a separate room - we call it our 'studio cabin'. We have a fold out couch for which we provide linens, pillows, and a comforter. There is also an inflatable mattress that is a tight squeeze, but can allow for four people to sleep (with a little furniture rearranging). There is a deck that is large enough for a two person tent that would also make a four person camp-out comfortable. All linens and towels are stored in the trunk and the bathroom cabinet. There is a 4' round dining room table with four chairs and a small table on the porch with two more chairs. All the cushions for the chairs are in a cabinet under the table inside. ACCESSIBILITY: Unfortunately, the cabin is not wheelchair accessible. There are 5 stairs up to the deck and the bathroom door is only 27" wide. SURROUNDING AREA: There are small trails leading away from the cabin; do not walk down them! They lead to neighboring properties and I cannot guarantee that there won't be neighbors who would be very surprised by a stranger showing up on their land! There are lots of public trails only a few minutes drive in either direction from the property :) STOLEN LAND: This property is on stolen, indigenous land. If you are Coast Salish or Makah, please get in touch with me for a discounted stay.

This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years. Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle. Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

About

Set on the western side of Whidbey Island, Fort Ebey was originally a coastal defense fort in World War II, the remnants of which can still be explored today. Now a park situated on a coastal bluff, the area features great views of Puget Sound and three miles of shoreline on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, along with a small lake. Enjoy beachcombing, paddling, surfing, and fishing, or explore more than 25 miles of hiking and biking trails. (Paragliding is also popular!). Seasonal camping options include more than 50 sites suitable for RVs, tents, hikers, paddlers, and groups.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for RVs: Eleven of the 50 sites at the Fort Ebey Campground offer electrical hookups, including some sites with 50 amps.
  • Best for large groups: The group campground is located on a bluff and can fit between 20 and 60 people with water and a vault toilet on-site.
  • Best for paddlers: One marine trail campsite is available for campers arriving by human-powered watercraft.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. During peak season, make a reservation as soon as you know your dates, or plan to arrive early to grab any unreserved sites.
  2. If your plans are flexible, try to visit during the week or during a non-holiday period for the best shot at a campsite. Campsites are only open seasonally.
  3. If traveling light or with a bike or human-powered watercraft, try for one of the three hiker/biker campsites or the marine campsite available on a first-come, first-served basis.

When to go

The park is open year-round but the campground is only open from March 1 to October 31 (the group site is open from April 1 to October 31). Peak season runs from mid-May to mid-September, when crowds are at their largest and campsite prices are at their highest. Spring is a great time to see wildflowers, particularly rhododendrons, in bloom. Seaweed harvesting is permitted between mid-April and mid-May.

  • The park office sells firewood, ice, water, snacks, and souvenirs.
  • Bring a headlamp or flashlight to explore the park’s gun emplacements and underground rooms.
  • Jet flyovers from the nearby US naval station can create noisy conditions.
  • Licenses are required for shellfish and seaweed harvesting, as well as fishing.
  • Bring binoculars to spot resident birds, including eagles, and a camera to capture the stunning sunsets.
  • Accessible facilities include campsites, restrooms, showers, and trails.
  • The campground has no dump station.

Fort Ebey Campground
The campground was really nice, and was located in a densely forested area. Most of the campsites have a lot of privacy and are not very close together. The campsite was very well maintained and raked when we arrived. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire pit. The campground has only one bathroom located near the center of the campground, so keep that in mind when you're choosing your campsite. The bathrooms were very well maintained, and had hand soap available in the sink area. There also showers in the bathroom. Shower tokens, fire wood and ice, are for sale at the state park office at the main entrance of the park. There are water spigots throughout the campground. There are also trails that lead to a stunning bluff area.
