Batwater Station is located halfway between Portland and the Oregon Coast on the Columbia River. A private refuge where river otter, beaver, mink, muskrat, seals, raccoons along with threatened Columbia river white tailed deer can be seen. Property has 1,000 feet of boat docks, river deck, and pier. At the pier is a full kitchen, heated bathroom and shower room. Included are 2 outhouses, a fire pit for summer months, a viewing station overlooking the wetlands along with brick charcoal fired barbecue and another propane barbecue. We are committed to your privacy so guests are limited and spread out. High speed internet through out the property.
Batwater worked with several agencies when we breeched a levee and flooded 26 acres for salmon and wildlife habitat. Hike along the wetlands and see beaver dams and dens. Batwater is also home for many types of birds including eagles, osprey, tree swallow, purple martins, barn swallows, wood ducks, common and hooded mergansers, mallards, scoots, scaups, grebes, cormorants, great egrets, blue herons, geese and many types of song birds . In the spring and summer see our returning osprey who have. nested on our dock since 2013. There are now 2 osprey platform since a pair of Canada geese choose that as their nesting site as well. Some bald eagles winter here but we have our resident bald eagles Hep and Hope. They arrived in 2003 to start their nest on Crims Island. They still nest there although there old nest tree collapsed in 2020. Many birds migrate here for the winter. Common mammals are river otter, mink, muskrat, raccoons, nutria, coyotes, black tailed and threatened Colombia White Tailed deer. We also are home to native turtles and frogs.
Batwater is a working farm with cattle feeding on lush pastures, 2 retired horses and chickens. When eggs are available, we will share some with you.
Batwater is a great place to kayak, canoe, paddle board or row during the summer months. We have windy afternoons for windsurfers or sailors. The Columbia River is well known for salmon, and sturgeon. For an extra fee you can moor your larger boat while visiting. There are a volley ball and badminton set ups along with horse shoes during the summer months. We suggest swimming during the summer months when the tide is coming in or slack. You can also walk or drive down to Mayger beach which is popular with locals. There are sandy beaches on Crims island that you can paddle over too.

You have acres to enjoy! Like your own mini campground. Half of our acreage is across the river-summertime is a great time to cross and explore! You can even walk up river and tube down.

We live on the neighboring property, but respect your privacy.

Tucked Away Retreat evolved from empty acreage to an easy retreat from the city and an opportunity to share our love of the rural life. Located in the Chapman area of Scappoose, this area is rich in logging history; the Crown Zellerbach trail is an old logging road and now an 18 mile hiking/biking "story board" of the life and culture of both the Native American Indians that lived in the area and the evolution of logging. Just over the peak of the CZ trail (which is approximately 3 miles from our property) is an old mine, just one example of many hidden areas to explore. Our retreat is just 45 minutes from Portland, yet feels a world away. You can relax in the quiet or explore the trail, the small towns that dot Highway 30 or head to the river. If you continue West on Highway 30, you will pass through many small logging towns, the old Trojan Nuclear site and eventually land in Astoria on the coast.

Located on 4 private acres, watch the deer wander through the property or the hawks float overhead. Bring your bikes and hit the Crown Zellerbach trail, or hike it instead. We are located approximately 0.8 mile from the trail. Visit Sauvie's Island, the largest inland island in the United States.
Paddle or kayak on Scappoose Bay, head up to the Trojan frisbee-golf course, or just relax on the lawn. We are also an easy drive from Vernonia, the Nehalem River and Big Eddy Park.
We offer two sites; Site A is on flat gravel that enjoys full sun. Site A is across from the large grassy area, perfect for sunning and relaxing.
Site B is on gravel on the upper drive and is shaded most of the day. Site B is best suited for camper vans, truck campers or small trailers due to trees along the back curve of the driveway. Large trailers/RV's and motorhomes will fit in Site B but you may need to back in.
Site B is backed by our private, small shop. The two sites are separated by trees. Both sites have 120v, 30amp and water hookups.
The property can accommodate one or two additional RV's in spots adjacent to both sites for multiple vehicle groups; contact us for more information if you are a larger group. Additional vehicles are an extra charge.
Please be aware that we are RV only, we have no outhouse, so we cannot accommodate tents or folks who want to sleep in their vehicle. We will consider an exception if you have a RV/trailer and kids who want to sleep in a tent. Please reach out to us prior to booking for this exception.
We do not allow "shower" tents.
Also please note that there is no cell service once you leave Highway 30; you have to have WiFi calling capabilities to use your cell phone.

We had a lovely stay on Karin's property! The RV spot sat right on the river with plenty of privacy, but still close to the bathroom/shower and kitchen area. Everyone was very friendly and happy to suggest things to do and see and the property had everything we needed! We loved swimming off of the dock, paddleboarding and watching the wildlife around the property. Very relaxing spot and would definitely come back to stay again.

Absolutely perfect. The upper area for our trailer was level and easy to maneuver. The lower area was like off-leash heaven for our dogs. We didn't see another human the entire time. Extremely relaxing, and the hosts set up several areas to enjoy. 100% recommend this spot!

Very private spot and very quiet. Big area to maneuver our travel trailer. Hook ups were a plus, adapters were provided and easily accessible. We enjoyed the view of the river from the upper site and also close up down right next to it. Trish was very responsive. We will go again when we can. We plan to bring our daughters and let them stay in the on-site trailer. it would be a great place for a family gathering.

Our stay at Trish’ was so relaxing , beautiful, fun, and enjoyable! She was the ultimate host! We had complete privacy, and she welcomed us warmly when we asked if we could visit with her at her nearby home. She left eggs, butter, firestarters, and snacks for us in her beautiful, completely renovated trailer!
We camped in our own RV; she had full hook-ups for us!
We floated down the river, then hung out in the water for several hours. We stayed cool in the 90 degree heat (there was a heat wave in Washington while we visited).
This campsite was pristine, had a great view, and had wonderful outside seating, and a cool fire pit.
We’ll be back!

Best HipCamp Ever! We stayed for almost a week and it was wonderful. Our rig is a 26' travel trailer and we fit perfectly. We had friends join us for a couple days and stay in the vintage trailer on the property. It was an ideal situation. We work from the road and used Starlink while on the property and it worked awesome. No issues at all. Trish and Kary are the best hosts and don't miss a single detail. We can't wait to return in the future!

Otter Pond was a great midweek get-away for us and our dog in our trailer. The site is well maintained and spacious. It was so relaxing to sit on the chairs overlooking the range to the river while sipping a cold beverage. The host gave us a swag bag that included dog treats and human snacks. Nice touch. This was such an amazing place to camp & play! We stayed 3 nights at Trish & Cary’s spot. Between the crystal clear river to play in, the acres to meander and explore, and three fire pits placed all around the property: this place is amazing! Full hookups for our toy hauler were the icing on the cake (& large gravel area is large enough for us to fully turn around our 40’ trailer) Thank you! We will be back for sure!

This place has it all! Beautiful scenery, river access, fishing, kayak, horses, otters, amazing sunsets. On our two week trip this was by far the best place we stayed. The RV site was right on the water, we got a wonderful tour of the property by Karin. She made sure our son had a life jacket and a net to catch tadpoles. He had plenty of room to ride his bike and it felt very safe. The kitchen is fully functional, bathrooms were very clean. The only downside is that we only stayed two nights! Highly recommend!

Wonderful space. It was our first time with full hook up and man did it feel like glamping. I rode my mx e bike on the sandy turns leading up to the river which was great. We even went in for a little dip in the river as well! Can’t wait to come back with another couple so they can rent the trailer on site and we can camp next to them. It’s a perfect setup for your friends who don’t have a trailer but you’ve been wanting to get them out camping!

Otter Pond was absolutely one of our top 3 places we've ever camped. We brought our camper and they had all the hook ups we needed. The RV site overlooked the valley below to the river. It was peaceful and there was so much room for our dog to run around. We paddled around the lake, played games in the meadow, and relaxed by the river. We enjoyed the rooster crowing and the farm fresh eggs. It was our anniversary and the hosts left us a bubbly. Top notch through and through.

The was a great place to come even for a rainy March getaway. It would be fantastic in nicer weather when one could have fun playing on or in the river. We saw all kinds of critters, including many, many birds. The host was super, very helpful and kind. The common area was well stocked with the things we forgot to bring. We will be back!

Another spontaneous trip to be next to a body of water, this time is the Columbia river. Just wow! Such an amazing property Karin has, she is very responsive, friendly and overall a star host. Thanks so much for letting us immerse in nature in your beautifully maintained paradise. We’ve had a lot of animal sounds, from different birds singing, frogs chatting to howling coyotes or (maybe wolves) we dont know. We loved the outhouse with complete kitchen facilities, toilet and bathroom, that is heated! Campsites and other forms of accommodation (yurt, cabin & boathouse) were distant from each other and we felt our spot was private even though it’s in the roadway. We really loved our stay here, with the amazing sounds of nature, serenity and the views were truly outstanding! We’d love to come back.
