We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed. You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

But there’s no power, no running water, no gas line, and nothing tied into municipal infrastructure. We’re powered by nature, not a utility bill. So yes, we’re off-grid — just not your wool-socks-and-Birkenstocks version of it. (Though, for the record, we wear Birkenstocks too.) • “We were seen in towels.” Hmmm… which is why we gently suggest skipping the towel parades through camp. Our enclosed shower stalls are there for a reason: shower, dry off, then get dressed before rejoining the great outdoors. • “It was in somebody’s backyard.” Sorry — our two acres aren’t tucked away in the middle of a federally protected reserve in the middle of nowhere. But our closest neighbor is nearly 300 feet away, and we happen to think riverside camping with a little civilization nearby is a pretty great trade-off. ⸻ If those realities feel unacceptable, we wish you luck finding a soundproof, neighbor-free, bird-mute utopia. But if you’re after a laid-back, laughter-filled, and unapologetically outdoor getaway on the banks of the South River — welcome. You’ve found it. Don’t forget your robe.

This place is fantastic. From the personal toilets to the wonderfully clean lake, Jud has created a beautiful camp experience for everyone. The adorable tents are roomy and clean. The goats and dogs are friendly and cute. Jud is such a great host and has so much kindness in his heart. He is more than happy to give you advice on the best things to do while visiting the area and welcomes all kind of company. Truly an amazing find and I would be surprised to find anyone who thinks otherwise. I will definitely be coming back as much as I possibly can. Thank you for everything, Jud and stay awesome!

10/10 We would give a higher score if we could! Kevin was so welcoming and happy to talk about the workings of the farm. No part of the farm was off lmits and we were able to interact with all of the animals, including the dogs :). The camp site itself is beautiful and kayaking on the pond was so nice. Would definetely come back again!

We had such a great time at the camp site! Kevin provided everything we needed to make this suburban girl feel like a woodswomen. The chairs in front of the tent were perfect for stargazing and kayaking on the pond at sunset was magical. We loved meeting some of the animals especially Mona the goat and their four sweet pups who tried to follow us home! 😊 We can’t wait to visit again soon!

Gorgeous spot. Felt very welcomed by Kevin. I was thankful to kayak on the lake, and hear animal lake sounds at night. Nice, simple set up.

Weekend Trip to Fairy Glen Farm

We absolutely loved this stay. John and Suzanne are so incredibly kind and inviting. We noticed a small problem with our tent when we first arrived, and before we could put all of our things down, John had already fixed it. Everything we needed was provided and even goods we didn’t know we needed- including a homegrown breakfast of eggs and tomatoes. We received great directions and recommendations that were incredibly helpful. We would absolutely come back again.

I’m convinced I need a yurt now. First time staying in a yurt and they are so expansive and cozy yet open. Can’t believe how spacious they feel with how small they are. The views are nice too

Laura’s place was incredible! Very accommodating and we loved seeing the animals. Would definitely return! Would recommend bringing a fan to the skoolie if you’re coming in the summertime too :)

Kevin was wonderful! We booked last minute/ day of & he had the campsite perfect & ready for us. He was also very responsive and accommodating when we had some concerns about the weather! The property is beautiful & the ride there was enjoyable too! I would highly recommend. :) Thank you again, Kevin, for having us!!!

Weekend Trip to Earthwalk Ways Retreat

I had a nearby visit with friends that I took the opportunity to turn into a weekend retreat. Darlene was so nice and welcoming. I appreciate her letting me check in during the evening since I couldn't leave work early. She took the time to show me around the grounds the next morning and then left me to it. The room was cozy and had a nice set up for tea /coffee and any basic cooking you might do on a hot plate. I really enjoyed looking through some of the books in the room, my favorite was an anthology of wisdom and stories from grandmothers. I spent time by the creek and one morning saw 3 deer and a buck wandering across. Also really loved the spa set up. 10/10 I left feeling grounded and will definitely be back the next time I find myself in the area.

Such a relaxing stay, and a beautifully kept campground! (Glampground?) The site had everything we needed, even a couple things we forgot. Sue greeted us and was a wonderful host, even gave us a tour of their beautiful grounds. We'll definitely be back in the fall! 🍂

Great property and great hosts. It was tranquil and a great getaway from the city. The owner lives across the street, far enough distance to have a little privacy. She greeted us with fresh eggs from her chickens. Would visit again!

Weekend Trip to Our Farm in Strasburg, VA

We had a wonderful stay at Half-Moon. We arrived a bit later, and were greeted by the soft bells and glowing eyes of sheep out in the field. The walk to half-moon was easy, and the wood chip path felt great underfoot. The available wagon was a nice touch, though we didn't have much to carry in. The site itself felt private, and the outhouse was clean and comfortable. Inside the dome, the setup felt cozy, the perfect clamping experience without any unnecessary frills. We appreciated the dark skies, quiet surroundings, and local wildlife (heard an eastern screech owl in the night!). We would love to return, with more time to enjoy a fire, and some of the local farm offerings!

The area was very relaxing and quiet. The Yurts was clean and comfortable. Annette answers questions quickly. The only thing complaint I have is the smell of the shower water. It smells like sewer water.

We stayed in the dancing wolf yurt for just one evening while passing thru. It was a wonderful, comfortable stay! Even thru the big rain storm which was pretty neat inside the yurt. Would stay again!

The accommodations were cozy and comfy. We stayed in the bus. Seeing all of the animals was neat. She has quite the assortment of critters. There are very friendly cats on the property too. Its peaceful and quiet out here. Everyone was nice and willing to chat about the animals and the farm. We were made to feel welcome. It was a very nice visit.
