Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. We really enjoyed staying at this site (#6). Excellent signage directing you to the camp. The scenery is beautiful overlooking the New River. Across the road, behind the site, is a lot of miscellaneous stuff that’s not so pretty to look at. The site is well equipped, with the utilities positioned on the wrong side, but that didn’t hinder us from being able to utilize everything properly in our 39 ft Super C. There is a house that sits up from the site that looks down on you, along with a large lighted cross. It was very quiet. A nice little getaway.

Another great stay at site #3! It feels very private and the hookups are set in the right place. We appreciated the new paint on the picnic table and the nice trash disposal on the way out. We’ve been visiting this campground since 2023. Highly recommend!

Decided to extend a day because the place was that awesome. It absolutely poured down and I never thought having the RV cover would be so helpful. It even allowed me to do a quick RV repair out of the elements. I think the only thing I was initially confused by is that there are two gates that lead to the area but there is a nice sign so you know you're in the right area. If it says this in the listing details I totally overlooked it 🤣 Overall I definitely recommend as it is super pretty and the host has done a really nice job of making easy access to the creek area which was nice as well.

There are 3 as you pull in and 3 more up the hill a little further all have great views of the valley! Only thing missing is a bath house and this would be a top 10 destination!

My wife and I just finished camping 3 nights at the Retreat. I honestly am trying to figure out where to start. First, we’ve never had a deck at a campsite on Hipcamp. The secondary deck on your way down to the creek is such a precious spot. It has lights which were a nice touch. We had a coffee there every morning and sat at the table and played scrabble. The creek area I’ll call it such a romantic quiet spot. There is a fire pit as well as one right by the covered area where we parked the tru m. You can sit with a fire and enjoy the sound of the creek as a waterfall sits right by the fire pit. We truly loved the covered camping area. We have a roof top tent and it was so nice to have shade and electricity. The picnic was very helpful also. We have not one bad thing to say about this place. We had the whole property to ourselves and never saw another person the entire time. It is romantic and quiet and a perfect place for a getaway. Sarrah our host was very communicative and always got back to us quickly with any question. 10/10. 5 stars.

Set up was great and the peace and quiet of the property was exactly what we were looking for. The pictures of the deck and lower area by the creek do not do it justice. It was such a slice of heaven down there and we enjoyed letting our dogs off leash. They have put much work into the property and you can tell they care about keeping it looking well maintained but still letting the natural beauty be the star of the show. We ventured in to the Meadows of Dan small downtown area twice during our long weekend and visited a couple artisan shops, grabbed a coffee at their coffee shop and sweet treats from the candy factory/store. We are already planning our next trip in early fall and introducing some family to this sweet getaway. Can’t wait!!!
