Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space.
Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.
All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.
We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

Welcome to our small Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature-inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout steams or touring the local vineyards and breweries.
We currently offer one cottage, glamping and a few campsites for our guests. Our campsites are all private, located acres apart with tables, chairs, firepits, some elevated sleeping areas, some hammock spots and a few with a roof. Three of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have four drive-in sites that will accommodate two or three vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm!
Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours.
The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries.
A few offerings on the farm. Tasting in the 1850s Chestnut log cabin, tubing trips, breakfast and picnic lunches, Animal experiences and Yoga. Please inquire about renting the property for private small events.

Fall asleep to hooting owls and the gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank your campsite. Wake up with a dip in the river or a morning hike in the woods. Feel the hug of the mountains throughout your stay, while also having access to Blacksburg nearby should you need it.
DIRECTIONS:
Upon entry the gravel road is shared with my neighbor and it is about 1.5 miles from the entry gate to the site. You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line.
Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well
When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit.
About the property
20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.
Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.
Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.
This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person.
I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.
I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.
About the listing
Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite.
Campers will have access to a private composting toilet, fire pit, and picnic table.
We offer two different campsites on the property, so note that you may see or hear other campers on the grounds during your stay.

The Farm was originally named 2nd 4o by my parents. They planned to live the 2nd forty years of their lives together on the farm. My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall!
Then my husband & I bought The Farm in 2017 for the 2nd forty years of our life & my parents built their little house right here. My husband and I immediately knew that our dream was to grow a different kind of "tree", so in 2019 we were among the first group to receive our license to grow hemp. We are passionate about both the hemp and cannabis plants!
In 2020 when it finally became legal to grow cannabis, we immediately added that to our garden as well and 2nd 40 to 420 was born, or shall I say planted. We currently rent out our 2 RV's 3 Yurts & primitive sites , we also offer group bookings & Canna-friendly B&B options. We plan to add septic & electric hook-ups for RV's in the near future.

Lazy River Farm has so much to offer. Tents sites are in a wooded setting, on a beautiful hill, spread out for privacy. Not at the river. Camp sites also have fire rings with wood available for you to use. Campers are welcome to use any wood that's on the ground near or around your site. Camp sites can be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle or walk up the hill to your site. With easy access down to the river, by walking or driving, you can cool off in the beautiful Cow Pasture River.
Glamping in the Vardo Wagon is another option, with its close proximity to the river and cozy interior. The Gypsy Rose sleeps 2, but can sleep 2 additional guests with a tent.
Paddle boards and kayaks are available for free if you paddling near the farm. (Life jackets are limited but are required, so if you have one bring it) drop in a line to fish, or simply sit by the river and listen to the soft rapids.
Lazy River Farm is a working farm, with lovely Scottish Highland Cattle, pigs, chickens, horses and livestock guardian dogs.. Your welcome to come and pet the animals. Do not feed animals. Do not go into fields or stalls with any of them.

We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed.
You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well.
We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest.
Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up.
The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room.
The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s.
We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants.

We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection. You may camp anywhere on the property. There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. The toilets are flushing, camping toilets with sinks. There are currently no showers available.

Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout steams or touring the local vineyards and breweries.
We currently offer one cottage, glamping and a few campsites for our guests. Our campsites are all private, located acres apart with tables, chairs, firepits, some elevated sleeping areas, some hammock spots and a few with a roof. Three of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have four drive-in sites that will accommodate two or three vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm!
Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours.
The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries.

Fall asleep to hooting owls and the gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank your campsite. Wake up with a dip in the river or a morning hike in the woods. Feel the hug of the mountains throughout your stay, while also having access to Blacksburg nearby should you need it.
DIRECTIONS:
Upon entry the gravel road is shared with my neighbor and it is about 1.5 miles from the entry gate to the site. You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line.
Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well
When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit.

20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.
Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.
Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.
This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person.
I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.
I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.
About the listing
Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite.
Campers will have access to a private composting toilet, fire pit, and picnic table.
We offer two different campsites on the property, so note that you may see or hear other campers on the grounds during your stay.

The Farm was originally named 2nd 4o by my parents. They planned to live the 2nd forty years of their lives together on the farm. My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall!
Then my husband & I bought The Farm in 2017 for the 2nd forty years of our life & my parents built their little house right here. My husband and I immediately knew that our dream was to grow a different kind of "tree", so in 2019 we were among the first group to receive our license to grow hemp. We are passionate about both the hemp and cannabis plants!
In 2020 when it finally became legal to grow cannabis, we immediately added that to our garden as well and 2nd 40 to 420 was born, or shall I say planted. We currently rent out our 2 RV's 3 Yurts & primitive sites , we also offer group bookings & Canna-friendly B&B options. We plan to add septic & electric hook-ups for RV's in the near future.

Lazy River Farm has so much to offer. Tents sites are in a wooded setting, on a beautiful hill, spread out for privacy. Not at the river. Camp sites also have fire rings with wood available for you to use. Campers are welcome to use any wood that's on the ground near or around your site. Camp sites can be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle or walk up the hill to your site. With easy access down to the river, by walking or driving, you can cool off in the beautiful Cow Pasture River.

We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed.
You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well.
We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest.
Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up.
The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room.
The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s.
We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants.

Weekend Trip to 12 Gates Farms
We stayed two nights in the treehouse while in the area for an event. We didn’t get to take full advantage of the property since we left in the mornings and arrived after dark both days, but enjoyed the time we spent there! We planned to camp at first, but the treehouse seemed like a better bet since the temperatures were cool in mid-April. It was at least ten degrees warmer inside than outside, which was perfect (so no need to even turn the heat on during our stay.) The mattress and bedding were comfortable and cozy. Everything was very quiet and peaceful. Roni was quick to answer questions and was very friendly and helpful. Neat little place and would definitely return!

This campsite is awesome. The yerts were clean and spacious and sitting right near the river as expected. The bath house opened up for the first time this weekend and they were done very nicely, great for longer stays.
The train did come through a couple times the first night and will wake you up for sure, but it adds to the charm! Would highly recommend this site for a weekend get away or even longer!

I didn’t really know what to expect from Thunder BRidge but this place is awesome! We chose the primitive cabin. But you can’t go wrong with anything here (cabin or camping) Having the pavilion and bath house nearby to use was helpful so you can either fully ‘rough it’ or have some level of home comforts. There’s plenty of room to run around in open spaces also a cool old school obstacle course. Cannot recommend this place enough! Adam is super helpful throughout your stay if you need anything! Need camping or cabins in the Natural Bridge area, look no further than Thunder BRidge!

Such a cool space! We loved the Cattails for its privacy and openness. It was perfect with a dog and baby. It got down to 20degrees one night and we were thankful for the propane heater. Leah was on site for our stay and was incredibly helpful and responsive to all our needs. Beaverdam Falls is such a beautiful property and we are so grateful it has been made available to campers. We would definitely come again.

Weekend Trip to Beaverdam Falls
If you love the wilderness, being alone, exploring, and being unplugged, this place is absolutely for you. I stayed in an A-Frame cabin that had a direct view of the large waterfall. The campsite was fully equipped with absolutely everything I needed. Three different ways to cook, firepit, grill, and little stove. All of the utensils, pots and pans to cook with and dishes to eat from. A little camping toilet in the cabin. The ceilings were so amazing and the bed was very comfortable. The hosts were very VERY responsive and accommodating. I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone who needs to find themselves. It definitely provided my soul what it needed.

We had an amazing 2 night stay at this beautiful cabin! The host,Trevor, was very nice and helpful! Hot tub, pizza oven and sauna were perfect! All the makings for our pizzas were there waiting for us which was a nice surprise! The property was clean, quiet, peaceful and very private! The cabin was really cute, very clean and well stocked for our 2 day trip! I highly recommend this property and this host for your next getaway! Everything exceeded my expectations and we would love to return!!!

Our stay at this wellness cabin was absolutely great. The space was peaceful, clean, and thoughtfully designed — exactly what we needed to relax and reset. The atmosphere made it easy to disconnect from daily stress and truly unwind. Every detail felt intentional, creating a calm and comfortable experience from start to finish.

Weekend Trip to Riverside Campground at Seneca
Loved the space, beautiful and secluded. The host provided water, fire wood, bedding, two chairs, citronella candles, lighters, lamps, toilet paper, and a power bank for device charging. There are audible plane and train noises so if you are looking for complete silence this would not be the place however there is no car traffic noises. The campsites as a whole are in close proximity (50 ft apart max) but there was no one else staying around us this time of year so it was wonderful. There was a small wood stove in the tent however we forgot a hatchet and couldn't get small enough pieces to get it working well so highly recommend bringing your own for this purpose during cold weather. Overall a wonderful stay and weekend getaway if you don't want to go through the hassle of pitching a tent and bringing bedding.

Weekend Trip to Camping at Lazy River Farm
We stayed at Gypsy Rose – The Wagon for Valentine’s Day and it was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, everything felt cozy, peaceful, and romantic. The wagon itself is beautifully set up — charming, clean, and full of little details that make it feel special.
Spending the night in the wagon made the whole experience feel unique and intimate. Sitting under the stars with my wife, enjoying the quiet and just being together, is something we’ll never forget. It was the perfect mix of comfort and adventure.
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway that feels different from the usual hotel stay, this is it. We made amazing memories here and would 100% come back again.

Weekend Trip to Arcadia Sanctuary
We had an absolutely incredible stay at this mountain yurt in Amherst, Virginia. We came in the winter months (because we’re a little crazy) and ended up getting stuck during a snowstorm — and somehow that made the whole experience even more unforgettable.
The hosts were beyond amazing. They went out of their way to make sure we were safe, comfortable, and taken care of the entire time. True hospitality. 11/10.
If you’re looking for peace, quiet, and a place to unplug and reset — this is it. Whether you want tranquility or you’re just trying to find yourself for a bit, this place delivers.
Also, we have to give a special shoutout to Buddy the dog, who kept us company and made the whole stay even better. Such a good boy and the perfect mountain host assistant.
And a big thank-you to the workers who helped us get out of the snow — we seriously appreciated the help more than you know.
Awesome place, awesome people, awesome experience. We’d recommend this stay to absolutely everyone.
