Nestled discretely in the forest adjacent to the area where the animals are, you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere even though you are less than a 5-minute walk from your car! Looking for something a bit more remote and spectacular? Hike a half-mile to the Big Sky Tent Deck. An incredible vista awaits you for a little effort! Need gear? We have it for rent, from cast iron grill baskets and griddles to make cooking over a charcoal grill a breeze, to tents, propane stoves, and water containers. Champlain Valley Alpacas and Beef is a family farm owned and operated by the Foshay family since 1998. Our girls, Gracie and Olivia are grown now. Gracie is married to Jaron and they live in Glendale,AZ . Olivia and her husband Guthrie own and operate American Window Cleaning II. Our herd of alpacas once was shown successfully in the Eastern States, now mostly range on the farm, having sweet cria (babies), growing magnificent fiber and effortlessly entertaining throngs of wedding guests! Our beef herd, comprised of Black and Red Angus, Hereford and Belted Galways has fluxuated as the market and hay supplies demand. We have a vineyard of Marquette grapes that are so delicious, that we have to race the birds for them in the fall. Our land is quiet, off the beaten path, and brimming with beautiful views of mountains, hills, valleys with winding creeks. This property has seen years of agriculture as a sheep farm, dairy farm and a fence company. We are happy to share this land and our gentle creatures with you. Learn more about this land: We are a working Alpaca and Beef farm in Central Vermont. Our cottage is available in the spring, summer and fall to Airbnb guests. Cariad Bach Yurt

4. Cariad Bach Yurt

33mi from Middlebury · 1 site · Lodging
Cariad Bach Yurt is an off-grid yurt set in a quiet corner of our working sheep farm on the outskirts of Poultney, Vermont. Backing onto pasture and overlooking the river, it’s designed as a peaceful glamping retreat for two—a place to slow down, unplug, and enjoy the rhythms of farm life. The yurt is traditionally inspired and imported from Mongolia, where yurts have long been used by sheep-raising communities as practical, seasonal homes. That connection felt like a natural fit here. Our farm is centered around pasture-raised sheep, and depending on the time of year, you may see animals grazing nearby or hear them settling in for the evening. When animals are on the farm, guests are welcome to arrange a visit. The site is private and has its own entrance, separate from the main farmyard. While we’re close to the road, the yurt sits in a quieter pocket of the property with direct access to the river. Evenings are calm, with the sound of water and the surrounding countryside. Inside, the yurt is simply but comfortably furnished, with a wood stove for heat and solar power for lighting and device charging. This is a true off-grid stay—there is no running water. Cooking is done in a separate outdoor kitchen area with a roof but open sides. It works well in fair weather and most of the year, though winter cooking does require preparation for the cold. A nearby propane incinerator toilet, imported from Norway, completes the setup. Access to the yurt is on foot via a short walk from the parking area, so guests should be comfortable carrying their gear. In winter, snow can make access more challenging, and water availability may be limited due to freezing temperatures. Our self-serve farm stand is open year-round and reflects the British roots of the farm, offering baked goods and farm products you won’t typically find locally. Guests staying at the yurt can arrange special pre-order offerings, including breakfast items and pasture-raised lamb or mutton for the grill. Cariad Bach Yurt is best suited for couples, hikers, and bikers looking for a quiet, nature-focused stay. Quiet hours begin at 9 p.m. No pets and no smoking in the buildings. We’re located about 15 minutes from Lake Bomoseen and Lake St. Catherine.

Our Family has owned this property for over 60 years. Jim & Sue spend their summers here. Our son recently vacationed at some great glamping sites around the country and had a vision of creating one on our property. We are excited to share the experience of what camping in this historic region of the Adirondacks is all about. Black Hole & Dunkley Falls campsite is located on an 80-acre old Adirondack farm. The Mill Creek runs along with this property, which features access to the scenic Dunkley Falls & The Black Hole — a cavernous geological anomaly. This famous swimming spot is a perfect place to test your nerve with a backflip off its 20 ft cliffs or just take a leisurely swim in the naturally formed glacier pool. Like to fish? The Mill Creek is also stocked annually with over 3000 brown & rainbow trout. All of this is just a short walk from our property. Onsite: Two Canvas Wall Tents (16ft X 14ft ) and Outhouse. Metta Earth Institute (MEI) is a non-profit educational retreat center in Lincoln, Vermont. With 158 beautiful acres, we are nestled in a bowl of mountains with stunning mountain views in all directions. Meadows, pastureland, and horticultural fields are interspersed with hardwood and evergreen forest, old orchards, stonewalls, seasonal streams, and an enormous variety of wildlife habitat. Walking and hiking places abound, and a magnificent, pure river with clear pools and waterfalls is just a few minutes’ walk down the road. MEI is based on a small-scale diversified, organic, and biodynamically oriented farm with an acre-sized retreat garden and other herb and flower gardens, and 2 food producing greenhouses. We practice regenerative agriculture, carbon farming, and many other environmentally sustainable practices. Main House Front Porch The front porch of the main house has continued to be a wonderful gathering place with outstanding sunset views and surrounding terraced gardens with blossoms and berries that attract hummingbirds and bees. We serve meals from the adjoining big kitchen, and these can be enjoyed on the porch or taken on trays to the nearby Plum Grove, other outdoor settings. The porch is a great place to meet with others or enjoy a place to sit and read. There is also a good internet connection on the porch and a place to charge devices. You are welcome to walk anywhere on Metta Earth land. Or you may want to walk on the surrounding dirt roads, all with very minimal cars and great mountain views or along the river. We can give further directions and information about the region when you are here. Our stays range from basic tent sites to Yurts and Canvas Tents. We have something for everyone. We have four yurts nestled on a knoll among maples, beeches, balsam, and other trees. They each are positioned for a sense of privacy from the others and have little paths connecting them. They all are well loved and humble, beautiful, light filled circular spaces with a round dome skylight, lattice siding, windows with screens for summer use and in winter extra insulation provided by window quilts. Each yurt has a wood stove for colder weather. The yurts are furnished simply with various configurations of single and double beds, tables, chairs, shelving, and sheepskins or other floor rugs. At night a few of the paths are lit with solar lamps, so it is wise to bring a flashlight/headlamp as well. Beeswax candles provide inside night lighting. Some of the yurts have string, solar lights around the inside of the yurt walls. We have 5 bell tents that are lovely, roundish shaped tents with a peak. Four of them are smaller, one-person tents, and one is larger for a couple or 2 people. We provide amattress and pillow with organic bedding and a sheepskin rug, and a simple storage crate/table. It’s a good idea to bring a sleeping bag for extra warmth, especially in the potentially colder shoulder seasons in May and in September. If you have a tent, insulated ground mat, and sleeping gear, we have many inspiring sites in the surrounding forest glades, meadows, and fields. Those who choose to camp have access to outdoor composting toilets, a hot water outside faucet for bucket bathing, and outdoor shower available in the warmer seasons. Camping requires a certain hardiness and adequate gear. Weather during the growing season (May – October) in the mountains of Vermont is unpredictable. Temperatures range from freezing temperatures at night in the spring and fall to gloriously warm days and even hot days.

Spend a magical night in "The Greenhouse" (it's a real, working greenhouse that doubles as accommodations for those looking for a more "glamping" experience). Want a little privacy? Reserve one of our two tricked-out Tent Deck sites (Buddha North and Grandmother Pine), each with its own picnic table, private fire ring, and commercial-grade park grill. We even have an Anker Portable Power Station and Portable Kerosene Heater for rent! Need Supplies? Charcoal? Propane? We've got it. ----- We are a small non-profit (501c3). Recently we have added the winter season for the adventurous Clamping crowd. The cottage is very private, with alpacas nearby. Hiking, xc-skiing (bring your own) and The Vast (Snowmobile)trails are also nearby. We have amazing western views of the Adirondack mountains, and are 20 minutes from Middlebury, Vergennes; 1 hour from Burlington and Rutland and 45min from Middlebury Snowbowl Ski Area.

In addition to the Canvas Wall Tents, we have a canvas bell tent for rent for larger groups. You can reserve this by adding it as an extra when checking out with us here at Hipcamp.

We give guided tours weekly upon request and discuss the ecological restoration efforts that are underway as well as our 'Seed to Soap' project that is Farm Craft VT. Our Farm Store is open daily from 8-8 and is self-serve. All sites have fire-pits (don't forget to order a firewood bundle), room for a group of 4-6, and views of starry skies. Please Note - none of the campsites are accessible by car. They don't have electricity or air conditioning - yup it's camping, just a wee bit more comfortable. For the complete Farm Craft VT experience, book a guided-farm tour on our website where you can smell the herbs, taste the honey from our hives, learn about how essential oils are distilled, how seed oils are pressed and handcrafted soap is made on site. WE HAVE REPLACED OUR CANVAS TENTS WITH SIMPLE WOODEN CABINS. THEY ACCOMODATE THE SAME SIZE AND NUMBER OF BEDS AS OUR PREVIOUS SITES. PLEASE DISREGARD ANY PHOTOS WITH OUR OLD CANVAS TENTS.
