The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks.
Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations.
Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us.

A common site for weddings, drum circles, and other metaphysical and spiritual happenings, the property has a labyrinth, a free expression chalkboard, a Zen sand box that are free to use.
A short walk down the wooded trail brings you to a small clearing with a central fire pit and several areas suitable for a tent. Situated close to a road, traffic can be heard but easily tuned out, particularly as the road gets much quieter at night. The woods are next to a large open field that is great for star gazing. Spruill Conservation Camp is in a beautiful natural setting on the sound with gorgeous bald cypress trees with osprey nests that you can see from your tent. The campsite was clean and ready when we arrived. There was plenty of firewood for purchase (honor system) and water from the pump for use other than drinking. The porta potty was clean and in a good location (close enough but far enough away from the campsite). We brought our kayaks but unfortunately the water was too choppy but we did care, we just enjoyed the sounds. We saw a beautiful sunset from the campsite. We will definitely return!

This spot was outstanding! Thoughtful campsites and friendly communicative hosts made everything much easier. The sites are well maintained and the views of the Albermarle Sound are exemplary. Campsite 3 had awesome wooden log benches around the fire pit! The use of kayaks was a delight- take the time if you can to explore the watery cypress coastline and enjoy the sounds and sights. We have a wonderful time. Everything was just right! We will absolutely return! Thank you!

The site was great for camping of any sort for a self-sufficient camper. I was only there 1 night so I put my tent, etc under a tarp and slept in my SUV. I knew there was an outhouse, and it far surpassed the one I grew up with-no bad smells or bugs! The site itself was straightforward with a picnic table and fire pit. The heavy wooded area to the north contributed to my feeling of being in the forest. There was no noise from traffic to
dampen my enthusiasm. I had hoped to get some pictures of the night sky but I had not planned well enough because the moon was full and outshone the stars all night. The map feature from Hipcamp worked well when I was searching for the site and my GPS took me back to civilization when I had to leave.

This campsite was absolutely beautiful. There are three campsites on the property all waterfront and well spaced for ample privacy. There were two very clean port-o potty’s, nice picnic tables and fire rings at each site. We stayed at site one which was a nice flat patch nestled in a water-side forest. This is a good site if you have kids because it is in between a water pump, a bathroom and closest to the trails/beach area. There are several nice trails along the property that take you through a picturesque marsh. We saw a bald eagle among other cool wildlife. Spring was a good time to go because we saw little to no bugs. We had a wonderful time and hope to return some day.

This was a beautiful place to stay. Candace and her husband were so welcoming and friendly. There’s a nice gazebo area, clean bathrooms, and a pool. We enjoyed walking around their farm visiting the cows and goats and watching the ducks waggle about. Highly recommend.
