A short walk down the wooded trail brings you to a small clearing with a central fire pit and several areas suitable for a tent. Situated close to a road, traffic can be heard but easily tuned out, particularly as the road gets much quieter at night. The woods are next to a large open field that is great for star gazing. Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River.
Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites.
The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped.
Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions.
There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure.

This was perfect for us. Monte was very welcoming and helpful. We had a flat tire on our travel trailer on the way there and wouldn’t be able to get one on a Sunday so he gave us a tire he had on his trailer. We have a 35 foot RV and the spot was number two no problems getting it in or out or hooking up. It was perfect for us because we have three dogs and not many places accommodate our Rottweiler. We really enjoyed letting the dogs run on the property through the field. They were so friendly and we enjoyed their dog Woody too. Thank you for a perfect stay.

3 nights at Kerr Lake Glamping at Holly Forest
Our stay was a very last minute decision and I feel so fortunate to have found this place in my search. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. We actually booked The Tranquility Cabin, stayed our first night there. It’s really nice with the wood burning stove. We rode the golf cart around, exploring the area and my husband was so interested in the screen houses. Jim and Becky were so accommodating and allowed us to switch the next morning. We spent 2 nights in The Retreat. It is tucked in the woods a little more offering more privacy. The clear roof is so nice, especially at night. Temperatures were pretty cool during our stay but heated mattress pad kept us cozy at night. Both places are great and we had a wonderful experience. The bathhouses are very clean and easily accessible. The Gathering area is so nice, we used the pizza oven, drank hot tea and enjoyed music from the record player. My husband fished a little, played pickleball, basketball and horseshoes. It was such a good experience. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

My family and some friends went for two nights, and we LOVED it. We’re planning to go back in a month or so! We usually don’t return to a campground that quickly, but it was beautiful and quiet, and my two year old loved riding her bike down the dirt road. Plenty of privacy between campsites unless you’re at sites 1-3, but those provide a great opportunity for a BIG group to camp together. The river moves really slow which was great for my young kids to swim in in their lifejackets. Not every site has a great river entrance, so next time we’re going to request a specific site that has an easier access with a sandy beach (site #1).

Weekend Trip to Sasquatch Ranch
This place is amazing! The rooms are so cool! The water-pressure divine! You can fish, play games, bbq, pet the goats, eat fresh eggs, and the host provides EVERYTHING you’ll need! We were in town for a funeral, and were too emotionally exhausted to drive 3 hours back home not including traffic. We had nothing with us. We stopped and grabbed some personal toiletries, like toothpaste and brush, some food to cook and we were set. We also recommend seeing & eating at the local sites. Chaddy’s Big Hat is affordable and delicious southern food, and the Cryptozoology & Paranormal Museum.
I highly recommend staying with Dean at Sasquatch Ranch!
