Cottage Place On Squam Lake

16 sites · Lodging10 acres · Holderness, NH
Cottage Place has been a welcoming retreat on Squam Lake for generations, offering a relaxed and comfortable escape in the heart of New Hampshire. Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or a long-awaited family vacation, our goal is simple—to provide a place where you can slow down, connect with nature, and make lasting memories. The Cottage Place on Squam Lake, formerly The Black Horse Motor Court, has been a family vacation destination since 1957 when built by Milton Graton, New Hampshire’s leading expert on covered bridge construction and restoration. His son Arnold has maintained the family heritage with several restored covered bridges within a few miles, notably Graton’s famous arched bridge over the Squam River, just one mile away. Autographed copies of his fascinating and informative book about covered bridges are available from our gift shop. The area boasts Squam Lake, Little Squam Lake, and the Squam River, comprising over 7100 acres. Squam is NH’s second largest lake. The largest, Lake Winnipesaukee, is just 9 miles south offering even more Lakes Region fun and the White Mountains begin just 20 miles north. Squam Lake was the setting for the 1981 Academy Award winning film On Golden Pond, earning Oscars for both Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn for their heartwarming performances. Our Cottages, Cottage Suites, and Lodge are designed for four season comfort and decorated with care to reflect New Hampshire’s simplicity and heritage. Individual Cottages range in size from one room (cottages 1 & 6), one bedroom (cottages 5 & 7) to two bedrooms, (cottages 2, 3 & 4) each having full kitchens and bathrooms and several have electric fireplaces. Our Cottage Suites located in the main building, are two room family apartments with full kitchens and bathrooms. The Lodge has six bedrooms, a large living/dining room, a fireplace, a full kitchen and two bathrooms. All our accommodations have Roku’s upon request, wireless internet, outside porches with Adirondack chairs and access to picnic tables and grilles. Cottage Place is a DOG FRIENDLY property
