The Hilltop sits on 7.5 acres above Stalker Lake in Otter Tail County, offering something genuinely rare: a private hilltop campsite with panoramic lake views and direct access to a lakeside sandy area and dock below. The climb to the site is about 250 feet and steep, but the lake view opens up from the first step and only gets better as you go. There's a bench halfway up for good reason — stop, catch your breath, and take it in. By the time you reach the top, you'll understand why guests keep coming back. Below the hill, your lakeside area is set up for full days outside. A large, deep-sand terrace sits just above the water with Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, fire ring, and easy stair access down to the lake. The shoreline is riprap, but the lake bottom is firm sand — great for wading, swimming, and getting in and out of the canoe or paddle boards. It's the kind of spot where nobody moves for three hours and nobody apologizes for it. The lakeside area is shared with your hosts when we're around — friendly neighbors, not hoverers. The hilltop and lakeside area are separated by Stalker Lake Road, a low-traffic country road easy to cross on foot. Carved out over 12,000 years ago by the Iowa glacial lobe, this land rests within the easternmost wintering area of the North American buffalo herd. This is a rare and untouched native prairie site near known Indigenous artifacts. It is also just 25 minutes from world-class healthcare facilities and shopping in Alexandria, MN, or just 9 minutes from Osakis, MN. Head of the Lakes Resort, known for its generous portions of French fries, is also just a short drive away. Walk to the nearest access point on the Long Prairie River, or travel just a couple of miles down Fairfield Drive—also a scenic walk—to Lake Osakis, one of the most heavily stocked walleye lakes in Minnesota. Battle Point also offers a nearby fishing pier. Drive just 5 minutes northeast on County Road 1 to an easy tubing access point, then enjoy a couple of relaxing hours floating down the lazy river back toward the campsite. The site is rustic, with no utilities or outhouse. Pack out what you pack in. Parking is available at the entrance only, and no motorized vehicles are allowed in the campground. Bring your animals (Dogs, horses, you pick) and some hiking shoes and rock hound on site. 15 minutes to nearest Walmart. 7 minutes to nearest nice restaurant & bar. Wadena & Staples are a thrift shoppers dream! Wadena also features fantastic restaurants including a superb German brewery with the best wood fire pizzas in the state, with many other unique places to check out! Nearest lake is about a 15 minute drive. There are currently 2 well water spouts to hook up to. Working on 240, but can only offer 120 by extension cord at this time. Unless you have a 20’ plus cord and don’t mind parking close to the garage. WiFi available near the house. Or get away from all the static in field of dreams. This ranch was established in 1907 and the outbuildings still need work, as well as public bathrooms which we can only offer by Porta potty for $100/day which is what we are charged. This is our first year offering camping to the public, so bear with us and help support a good cause so we can continue to add amenities here. There’s endless miles of absolutely beautiful motorcycle & trail riding out here! Funds help us continue to raise awareness to addiction & suicide and bring support to those who have been affected by either.

Wow! Where do I begin?! Not only is the location beautiful and breathtaking, we really enjoyed the privacy. The hike up the hill is no joke but we got use to it! The wagon that is provided was SO helpful! The beach is remarkable and the sunset left us speechless. The actual campsite was a perfect size for two adults and our dog with room to spare. We will DEFINITELY be back to camp again!

We barely saw the owners unless they were asking if we needed more wood or anything else. I admit I was a little nervous at first, but I would and will stay here again.

I camped here with my husband and our two large dogs, and we had so much fun! At first, when I saw the steep hill mentioned on the page, I thought, “How steep could it really be? We’re in Minnesota!” Well… I’ve climbed many mountains before, and honestly, this hill is comparable to some mountain roads I’ve done—just MUCH shorter! But you still get that rewarding feeling when you reach the top. The view looking down from the hilltop is really cool. It’s hard to capture in pictures, but it’s definitely worth the climb! Lake water is super clean, and the beach is very well maintained. The campsite feels very private and is in such a quiet, peaceful area. The site is also surrounded by maple trees, and when you look up, you’re covered by all the beautiful leaves. It feels amazing! We somehow experienced almost every type of weather during our stay—peaceful and sunny with a nice breeze, then rain and wind, and eventually SUPER windy and cloudy. Luckily, the temperature didn’t fail us, so we still got to enjoy the water! Mindy was also very responsive whenever I reached out with questions. I would definitely recommend this campsite! The only thing I’d mention is that if you’re someone who really doesn’t like “exercise,” keep in mind that you will be climbing that hill every time you go between the campsite and the water. For us, that was part of the fun, but I know not everyone feels the same way! Overall, 10/10!! We had such a great time here and would absolutely recommend it.

This is a very quiet spot. You can pull further in for shadiness or pull in less for a more sunny spot. Power is at the back, water halfway on the right (headed in) and sewer on the left. We only used the electrical and the connections are spaced a bit apart, so be prepared with longer cables, hoses, etc. Jackie was very responsive and proactive.

This was our favorite ever camping spot! And we've camped a lot in our lifetime. First time not having to set up a tent because of he cabin. The cabin was so cute and just perfect. It's actually a lot bigger than it looks in the pictures. The spot is really quiet and far away from people. Jessah was super nice and extremely responsive to any questions. This is a REALLY nice getaway, we will definitely be back!

The camp is exactly like the pictures. Beautiful and well maintained. The lake was great for swimming and the beach area was perfect. Every amenity you could wish for was available! Sand toys, beach chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards, life jackets, volleyball net and volley ball, soccer goals, game room with many games in a cool old garage, slack line… And I’m probably forgetting stuff. We tent camped at site T3 Firefly - which was a perfect little nook that felt private but was close to everything, and with a lake view. The only downside was a bit of a walk to the bathroom. Worth it! The owners were very kind and helpful also. We had a 4 day stay. No one asked us to move anything or change anything. (Some other reviews made me worry that owners might be intrusive or picky but that was not our experience! Quite the opposite.) We had a tent, a canopy, three people and two dogs. We all had a great time and would definitely come back!
