Welcome to the north woods!  Camper available next to a small private beach, a larger public beach, two fishing piers, and a boat access onto Long Lake!  Also within walking distance to a very nice restaurant.  You'll have access to paddle boards and kayaks and assorted water toys for your stay.  The camper is a 37 foot '97 Dutchmen Royal that has been updated, it features a queen bed and a full size futon.  Sleeps 4.  It's a pretty nice spot!

This old homestead belonged to my belated uncle Steve, and after he passed unexpectedly, I had returned to Minnesota from California and wanted to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those interested in sharing a peaceful and modest property.  The old barn is a work in progress to eventually become the base to accommodating more travelers and outdoor enthusiasts as finances permit.  After working in the service industry bartending for 14 years and hosting 100+ global travelers via CouchSurfing out of San Diego, I am well versed in creating an inviting space and intend to take the necessary precautions now with the added stresses of Covid-19.  We look forward to meeting you and sharing/swapping stories around the campfire!Learn more about this land:Our property and profile are in constant change as we are in a stage of development, but we look to share our land with those seeking to enjoy a warm, welcome environment for those fellow wanderers, outdoor enthusiasts, vagabonds, and globetrotters. We enjoy the company of those who endorse small footprint, sustainable practices and I eventually intend to create an eco-hostel from the conversion of our 100 year old barn.  All we ask is that you respect the property, our neighbors, and make an effort to add one more new friend before you depart.

Just a few minute drive or 10 minute walk, you can be up at the Detroit Mountain Rec Area, a blossoming attraction of Detroit Lakes!

Beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails are available to those wanting to test their trail riding skills.

Strawberry Lake Cabin

A Minnesotan summer is a quintessential American summer. 

And on the banks of crystal-clear Strawberry Lake in the far Up North, our one-bedroom, one-bath Strawberry Lake cabin will entice even the most digitally connected guests to step away and enjoy the great outdoors like kids on summer vacation! 

Built by local craftsmen in 2013, our Strawberry Lake Cabin sits at the edge of Strawberry Lake, which is beautiful in all seasons but holds a special charm in summertime. The air is warm, the sun shines bright and clear, and the deep green foliage dapples the glassy lake. Enjoy all this lush scenery from the spacious deck under the trees at Strawberry Lake Cabin—from morning coffee to evening glass of wine. 

Inside, an open common area, including a fully stocked and gleaming new kitchen, faces cathedral windows overlooking the deck, the woods, and the lake. These windows span the width of the house, all the way up to the lofted sleeping area, which is perched just at the tree line.

Couples love it here at our Strawberry Lake Cabin—no matter the season. 

Experience the easy romance of tucking into nature together and shaking off the stresses of everyday life. From the loft bedroom, views of an unpolluted Minnesota sky full of stars will lull you into a deep sleep, and the green woods filled with birdsong will greet you first thing in the morning. 

Friends’ getaways—complimented by a bottle of Minnesota wine, maybe? —find a wonderful setting here, as well. 

And small families appreciate our Strawberry Lake Cabin—as well as the many family-friendly activities on the property and nearby. To make your family retreat easy, we provide a highchair, a baby crib, and a washer/dryer for warm, fresh clothes for the family mid-week.

No matter who you’re traveling with, we highly recommend a canoe trip out on Strawberry Lake. We will provide the canoe for you! And the water here is calm and peaceful, with less motorboat traffic than on many of the lakes in this area. Not to mention the water clarity: spring-fed Strawberry Lake is so clear; the DNR’s 2022 lake survey measured water clarity at 21 feet! 

In summer, the Tamarac Lake National Wildlife Refuge, located just three miles away, comes alive and is a spectacular place for a hike or a bike ride. When you get back from outdoor adventuring, heat up the gas or charcoal grill and get your energy back with a perfectly cooked lakeside burger.  Or maybe you'd like to be pampered and treated to a local homemade catered breakfast, lunch, or supper - we can help make that happen.

As the sun starts to sink and the stars pop out, prepare the fire pit for a heavenly dessert of—what else? ~ gooey toasted s’mores over a crackling flame. The cool air of Minnesota summers makes fireside chats comfortable long into the evening.

As the setting for many of my own happy childhood memories (and the place where I proposed to my wife), the woods and lakes Up North hold a special place in my heart. We’ve decorated the house with items that mean a lot to us, collected locally and around the world.

Past guests have asked us if we had a boat they could use.  Now, we are excited to announce we have the option of a boat and motor to help you explore and fish Strawberry Lake.  Available for rent is our 14 ft. fishing boat and 9.9 hp motor at a flat rate.

Our complimentary canoe continues to be available for you to enjoy.

Learn more about this land:On the lake, canoe and kayak provided, wilderness trails for hiking,  fishing, mountain biking, fire pit, 10 minutes from Detroit Mountain, 1 mile from Heartland Bike path, and enough crickets and frogs to sing you to sleep!

Like many properties the roads split the house from docks but it is not heavily tracked at all. I slept near the road and slept soundly. 

Dock and float for lake enjoyment. Kayak and canoe too!
