The property set up was amazing, chairs on a deck platform to watch the river and sunset, two hammocks, fire pit with rocking chairs, covered silo structure with table/chairs, 3 different options for tent placement, walking paths, grass area for provided games, and room to roam for children and dogs.

This hipcamp was very unique with the cute rustic gazebo and patio furniture, and a nice fire pit. The view of the river was very beautiful and we loved watching the sunset up on the deck. We really enjoyed our time there. There is constant traffic noise from the interstate, but we read the reviews which prepared us to expect this which did not bother us. The only thing we were not aware of is the small trees that didn't offer much shade on the very hot day during our stay, but no big deal because we went into town that day until it cooled off. Overall we had a nice relaxing long weekend.

Wonderful site next to bike path and river. The only downside was we could not find the free firewood and it was within ear shot of a major road. Great sunset though and lots of chairs and a shaded structure.

We tent camped one night here and had a great time. There was plenty of space for a larger group, it felt private, there were walking paths, the deck overlooking the river was nice, the fire pit was very useful, and the silo gazebo was a unique touch. We did not end up meeting or contacting the owner which is totally fine with us introverts but we appreciated the land and the spot. There was also a well kept outhouse.

This is a beautiful spot right on the river and bike trail. It was so nice to not have to bring chairs, and the fire pit was lovely. What a bonus to use kayaks and hammocks?! The only bummer was the road noise from the freeway. Thanks for a fun weekend!

We tent camped with a small group and loved how spacious yet cozy this land is! Beautiful lookout over the water and kayaks ready to use. We enjoyed walking the trails and noticing all of the fun and unique birdhouses. Loved the tin roof cover as we got some rain during our stay. We appreciated being provided with hand sanitizer, surface cleaning spray, lighters, firewood, and kerosene for the tiki torches amongst other useful things. They also had a variety of yard games in the shed and hammocks to relax in.

This was such a quiet and secluded campsite perfect for our group of 15. We had a blast kayaking and hanging out by the fire. Tim was very welcoming! I highly recommend!

Hosts were great. Provided firewood, kayaks, cooler, fishing pole, outdoor games, 2 hammocks, fire pit and grill. Great little private getaway. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved camping at Rusty Star! It's a very private single campsite all to yourself, with plenty of room for several tenters. There is a lot of seating so you're never uncomfortable. (Including hammocks!) There are a few chairs that overlook the river, and several under the shelter (which kept us nice and dry when it rained!) There is lots of wildlife to look at, and free kayaks to use. The port-a-potty was very clean. The fire pit was very nice, and has a swing top grate which is great for cooking.
Some drawbacks: Not an ideal place for swimming (but there are many lakes with public beaches nearby) and you can hear the interstate.
This is a great place to camp and we will definitely be back again!

This campsite was great! Our host quickly greeted us and pointed out the lovely extra amenities. This camp has kayaks, rafts, hammocks, and lots of seating areas. We loved splashing around in the river on a hot day. The sunset over the river from the deck was beautiful! We enjoyed watching an egret splash around near us on the shore. It was the perfect quick stop on our cross country road trip as it was pretty close to the highway. Our only disappointment was that we couldn’t stay longer. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing few days with family or friends!

This place is nice and private with no other campers to listen to. There were hammocks to relax in and chairs overlooking the Sauk River. Kayaks were available but we didn’t use them this time. There’s a fantastic shelter made from a silo roof with some subtle solar lights around it. The entrance to the campsite is well marked.

I really liked the barn canopy made from sheet metal. It provides a nice shaded area.

Very nice secluded spot, like a little slice of heaven. Nice little loop trail to walk. The silo top gazebo area was so nice to have, as well as the deck overlooking the river. For bird watchers, we saw and heard a great variety of birds, including 2 bald eagles. Easy access to the Lake Wobegon Trail which is nice for biking and walking. Very friendly hosts, made us feel welcome and were available to help us with any needs we had.

We loved this site! Very clean, kind host, hammocks provided, as well as kayaks and a river launch.
We had two issues:
1. We didn’t have friends with us (this would be a great site for a group of campers)
2. We only had one night here.
Would absolutely recommend and would love to go back!

Timothy's site was a perfect getaway from noise and fireworks for my dog and I over 4th of July. The Sauk river acces was great for a 93° day and the shelter was perfect for a rainy day, also. We were able to watch many birds fishing during our short stay.
The access to the Lake Wobegon trail was also wonderful, as were the winding, mowed trails throughout the property. Timothy had hammocks set up upon request and ample fire wood. The portapotty and trash were also welcome amenities.

This was by far our best Hipcamp experience and there have been a lot of good ones. The views were incredible, the activities kept us busy AND there were multiple places to sit and relax in photo-worthy spots. The bugs were minimal and the frogs were really cute. Not to mention the patch of four leaf clovers tucked away. We are telling everyone about this trip and already wanting to go back

We loved Timothy's property. It was private and the river gave the kids something to do. Although, beware of the current if the river is high and the kids are younger. The silo structure was my favorite part. I never knew how great a large covered area can be while camping. The freeway noise is there but was tolerable for us. The area was well cared for and we appreciated the extra nice touches.

We had a wonderful time camping with our two small dogs. The site is perfect with many thoughtful touches. There’s both shade and sun so you can take your pick. The portable toilet was clean and close by. There were plenty of chairs, a table, and even a countertop for food prep. I was surprised at how close the location is to the Lake Wobegon bike trail. It’s only about a 3 minute walk from the site. There’s so much to do here, but we just relaxed. There’s also a town nearby in case you forget anything. There is some traffic noise from the interstate so if you think that will bother you at night, I recommend that you bring ear plugs. The site is worth it.

This was the most beautiful campsite we’ve ever stayed at. It has everything you could ask for, private, on a river, toilet on site, nice fire pit, grill and shelter from the sun. Timothy was super friendly and brought us wood upon arrival. There are kayaks to use, yard games and fishing poles. We hiked the trail literally the corner and grilled steaks for lunch and napped in the hammocks. It was a perfect camping experience!

This is a very private, peaceful spot with a beautiful view of the river. There are many nice amenities such as a covered dining area and very fancy fire pit. I wish I had had a chance to try out the kayaks! As an overnight stop on a multi-day road trip, the close proximity of the Lake Wobegon Trail was a huge bonus as a safe place to stretch my dog’s and my legs after hours in the car.

We loved this spot and so did our dog! Everything was thoughtfully placed and the kayaks were really fun to use. We unfortunately got rained out in the early morning and had to pack up quickly, but the evening beforehand was peaceful and beautiful :) Thanks for a great getaway from the cities, Timothy!
