Welcome to the Double J!
Of the 71 acres we own, about half is tillable and the other half is woods and pastures for our horses. Within that, there is a beautiful secluded 3-acre meadow nestled down along along a beautiful 1,200 foot stretch of the Zumbro River where we have 5 spacious tent/RV campsites. While the campsites are all adjacent to each other along the river, they are each very spacious (the smallest being 100' wide and 75' deep), with some mature trees scattered around. Each sites (except Site #1) is able to accommodate up to 8 people and more than one tent or RV. There is a small meadow above all the sites where campers can play catch or other games. We provide and maintain a centrally located outhouse and keep the entire area mowed throughout the year. All sites offer great shade trees (perfectly spaced for hanging up a hammock) and access to the river - great for those hot summer days!
Water activities to be enjoyed include fishing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and tubing (equipment not included). Some campers will drop in upstream at the Covered Bridge Park and float down to their campsite. The Zumbro River, especially in the fishing hole, offers great fishing including Trout, Small-mouth, Red-horse, and an occasional Northern or Sauger.
Campers are welcome to to meander out into our pastures to pet our two horses, Shiloh and Champ. Also, we are just over a mile from town where you can visit Covered Bridge Park which has a Frisbee golf course and a nice play area for younger kids.
Reserving adjacent sites, or all of the sites, makes for the ideal setting for a large family or group camp-out. In order to prevent overcrowding, we do reserve the right to limit number of sites, or campers per site based on overall parties/campers in the camping area. We will notify you if there are any limits at the time of your booking.
We enjoy being able to share our property with others, and it is our desire to promote a safe, peaceful, family-friendly environment, therefore, be sure to note, we do have a NO ALCOHOL policy.
PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to read the "RV Details" on the site information page as the road to the camping area may limit the type or size of RV due to a couple dips, a sharper curve, and it's steeper slope. Also, keep in mind, we reserve the right to cancel any reservations due to heavy rains or floods that may require our sites some additional time to dry out sufficiently.

As is customary for most campgrounds, we ask that if you bring in your own firewood that it be kiln dried. Dry firewood can be purchased for $5.00/bundle.
TIP - Being we do not reimburse campers in the event of rain (unless campground is flooded or too muddy), we highly recommend campers take advantage of Hipcamp’s Weather Guarantee option when booking. With Minnesota’s unpredictable weather it allows you to get reimbursed for any days it rains over a specified amount, even if you choose to stick out the rain! The cost is very reasonable making it almost a no-brainer!

This property has 4 camp spots. Sites 1 and 4 have a boat landing. All sites have shades trees that can hold hammocks. All sites are right next to the lake. Site 3 has a dock that all can use. There is excellent swimming with a sandy bottom at the south end of the lake. The lake is stocked with perch in 2024 but has others as well. It is also close to many lakes that are good for fishing. I have a 14' fishing boat with trolling motor, a paddle boat, 2 kayaks, and canoe for campers to use for free. Firewood is available for $5/day. There is some hiking on the property and much near by. Biking is also good with small lakes nearby to visit. The camping here is very peaceful with wonderful views and the wildlife is awesome! 120 volt power is at all sites and 220 can reach sites 2 and 3. There is warm showers and flushing toilets. Also all sites are drive through on hard ground grass. Grates are provided for cooking over the fire. There is Wi-Fi internet that reaches sites 1-3

Many folks that have visited our place refer to it as 'country living in the city'.
We are so blessed to live in this little piece of serenity just inside the city limits of Duluth.
Our home was once an abandoned house that sat for years until a friend mentioned to us that it might be going up for sale. We loved the location and rolled up our sleeves. Twenty years later we still marvel at the beauty around us and can hardly believe that we LIVE here!
Just down the road is a trout stream and beyond that was a popular farm that attracted many folks to this neighborhood for hay rides and sleigh rides. The farm has since retired its horses and closed its doors to make room for new homes, but memories live on in the beauty of the open fields. I often imagine the sound of horses and sleigh bells and people singing carols and then warming up around a toasty fire sipping hot cocoa. Some of those memories live on right here at Balsam Ridge (minus the horses). Over the years many groups of folks have enjoyed a sense of community in these back woods no matter the season. Campfires, kids catching frogs, neighborhood campouts, snow picnics, hair-raising toboggan runs, family campouts, spiritual silent retreats, a take-your-breath-away giant swing, and some tales too daring to mention are all part of the fun.
This is why we do what we do. We've been given much, and love to give back. It just wouldn't seem right to keep all this good to ourselves.

West of Taylors Falls. Dan bought this property with the intention of growing stone fruits (plums, peaches, apricots and
cherries) using sustainable and organic practices because health and wellness matter to them! They are still in the process of improving their property. Many of the building on the property were in poor condition, including the old barn foundation which is now one of Dan and Danielle favorite places to keep cool in the summer. Start your morning with a perfect view of the sunrise (site 2), or a more shaded, sleep-in a bit (site 1) along with your favorite morning beverage. Site 3 is a large grassy area with tree cover for tents or small vehicles, and a sunrise/sunset view. Feel free to explore the property and you will find a wooded grove and dirt walking path, native plants, wild life--deer, squirrels, pheasants, eagles, hawks, fox, coyote, raccoon, etc. We have 2 fire pits on the property, one at site 1, the other at site 2. You are welcome to bring a portable fire ring or BBQ. We have a vegetable garden you we welcome to admire or get veggies from if they are ripe. We also have a trampoline with surrounding net if there is anyone interested in jumping on that. There is a basketball hoop located by site 1. The outdoor bathroom and guest patio area is also located near site 1. We have a few animals that roam the land, a black lab named Emma, she is 13 years old and friendly as can be but if she is outside she will greet you with barks and running with excitement to see who you are. She does not jump on people. Sometimes she will get territorial with other dogs but is fine after an introduction. So if you are traveling with dogs, a heads up is appreciated! We also have farm cats and egg laying chickens. Take a walk on our country road or into town, approximately a mile and a half to restaurants, visitors center at the Jolly Green Giant Statue, hardware stores, Shell gas station & food mart or access to miles of paved trails around the town. Explore and have fun locating the dozens of "Little Sprouts" (baby Green Giants) around town. There is a very nice City swimming pool with diving board, slide, lap pool, zero depth pool all the water features, lounge chairs, umbrella's, concession stand, showers... located on the South end of Main Street in Blue Earth. Very easy entrance and exit to Blue Earth, site is located at the intersection of Interstate 90 & HWY 169.

Enjoy a peaceful escape on our private 3.5-acre lot, perfect for tent camping or RVs. The upper site includes an electric hook-up, outhouse, and a dedicated fire pit for campfires under the stars. Surrounded by woods on either side, it offers a quiet, semi-secluded spot for nature lovers.
A short trail (400 feet or a little over a football field) leads through the forest to the Snake River, where you’ll find a second fire pit with chairs, solar lighting, and a private dock that is shared with just our cabin and a campsite. If you are tenting, you can tent at the river but do not drive on the trail. The river is great for fishing, swimming, canoeing, or kayaking, and can accommodate small boats. Multiple public boat landings are located up and down the river for easy drop off and access points.
The property lines are outlined in the overview picture. Please do not go to the east of the trail to provide ample space for privacy with our neighbors. The red on the map is the camping area with electricity and outhouse. Our personal log cabin is the blue dot but there is a significant tree line in between. If we are there, we are happy to give you a tour. The blue line is the trail. The white area is our property on the river and available for tent only or to hang out for the day if you choose to camp up top. The purple area is where the goats are busy eating. Come and visit them!
While the site does not have running water, you’ll be camping right next to our family cabin, and we’re happy to help with anything you might need. We also have friendly goats on the property that guests are welcome to visit!
There’s also plenty to explore nearby. Just minutes away, Braham offers a quirky “hole-in-the-wall” bowling alley and some charming local shops. Head north to Pine City for more options, including restaurants, a larger grocery store, and additional shopping. History buffs will enjoy visiting the Snake River Fur Trading Post, a Minnesota historical site. And if you’re in the mood for a local treat, Sapsucker Farms is a nearby cidery open on weekends, often hosting live music, food trucks, and hiking trails. There are 5 State Parks within an hour drive. Ask your hosts for even more ideas—they’re happy to share local favorites!

You might drag your bumper or hitch on your way down the hill to the spot. It's not hard to drive, it just is a bit steep and only gravel. We are always here to help if need be when you arrive.
Bring bug dope, the bugs can be very hungry right about dusk time til about 30 min after the sun goes down.
If you have kayaks or paddleboards you are welcome to bring them and enjoy the lake. Watercraft (boats/jet ski's) not allowed.
This is a primitive camping spot, meaning no hook ups or WiFi. (no water/sewer/electric/wifi)

There were 5 of us camping at the Lazy River Landing camp site in August 2026. We could not have had a better time. We found the place to be exactly as advertised…private, secluded, peaceful and scenic with the river right there. Yes, there was a bit of a hike to get all our gear down to the river side camp area but that made it all the more secluded…well away from the road. Our hosts Anne & Adam were very welcoming and attentive to our needs. They even sprayed the area prior to our arrival to minimize the mosquitoes. That was awesome.!!! There was plenty of wood for the fire and even a canoe, a kayak and some other water toys we could use. Overall, it was an awesome weekend. We are already planning to go back next year!

Weekend Trip to Balsam Ridge Retreat
Staying at the Roost was awesome! Linda and Chris welcomed us as we arrived, gave a tour of the property, and gave great ideas on throngs or places to experience. The Roost is definitely small, so be prepared for that. That being said, we had a fantastic time at the Roost. It’s a quick drive to Duluth and a great place to recover in a quiet area after a long day out! Thanks for a great weekend!

2 nights at Balsam Ridge Retreat
Had the absolute Best Time here!! Linda and her Husband were the absolute sweetest and most welcoming hosts. Me and my other Teen friend came here to Glamp and it was a very nice and Safe area. The stove was very easy to figure out and use after a fire was started. Very easy and convenient. It felt secluded in the best way!! The site is very close to town and Lake Superior!! The Bathroom we were told to use was VERY clean! There is also a Community Space by the pond with plenty of Activities! There are a Variety of hiking trails and they were so Beautiful and easy to stay on the trail and find your way back thanks to the tree markers and Lindas Handy map!! Overall such an amazing experience and we will 100% be back next summer!! thank you Linda!! ❤️❤️❤️

My friends and I had a wonderful time on Dan’s farm! He is extremely kind, welcoming, and accommodating - offering us peaches, apricots, and even homemade jam! He also gave us a personal tour of his property and the high tunnels for his fruit trees. We felt instantly relaxed and comfortable on the farm. The campsite was spacious, private, and clean. A great place to spend quality time and enjoy the quiet of the outdoors together! Hope to come back sometime in the future, I would recommend his farm to anyone. 😊

We really loved camping on Eric's riverfront site. His property is amazing. It feels so secluded yet accessible. We camped at the fire ring next to the river and it was so peaceful. There is a nice size landing up above with the outhouse for larger groups but there was plenty of space by the river. The dogs loved getting into the water with us!
