This is a newer campground to Rock County near Luverne, MN. This property is known as the "boy scouts" by the locals.
When we were kids we spent time on this property riding bike, horses, and exploring.
We have turned this 13 acre property into
22 site campground that we are excited to share with you.

This property has 4 camp spots. Sites 1 and 4 have a boat landing. All sites have shades trees that can hold hammocks. All sites are right next to the lake. Site 3 has a dock that all can use. There is excellent swimming with a sandy bottom at the south end of the lake. The lake is stocked with perch in 2024 but has others as well. It is also close to many lakes that are good for fishing. I have a 14' fishing boat with trolling motor, a paddle boat, 2 kayaks, and canoe for campers to use for free. Firewood is available for $5/day. There is some hiking on the property and much near by. Biking is also good with small lakes nearby to visit. The camping here is very peaceful with wonderful views and the wildlife is awesome! 120 volt power is at all sites and 220 can reach sites 2 and 3. There is warm showers and flushing toilets. Also all sites are drive through on hard ground grass. Grates are provided for cooking over the fire. There is Wi-Fi internet that reaches sites 1-3

We have a nice, fully private outdoor shower with hot water available for $2.50/shower. Guests can pay on-site via our posted QR codes or cash box.
We're also available for other events like birthday parties, intimate weddings, and group gatherings at our gazebo and/or 20ft x 40ft party tent.
Several lakes in the area provide numerous options for fishing, boating, and hiking. And nothing beats those evening country road walks while agate hunting!
Other area attractions include Mini golf in Cambridge, public aquatic center with water slides in Mora, and several state parks an hour or less away.

Once the site of the historic V.J. Fetzner Brewery from the late 19th Century. The land is now used as a hobby farm, honey bee sanctuary and nursery to a unique tree species normally not found in Southeastern Minnesota.
Remnants of the brewery are still visible. Foundation walls outline the massive structure of the brewery. Nestled in the center of the foundation is the entrance to
the sixty-seven foot deep cave that
once held barrels of beer and can be accessed by canoe only.
Hops have been located on the property and are believed to be ancestors of those raised to make the beer once stored in the cave. The pond that provides access to the cave was dug out in the early 1990's to create a fish out for the Spring Falls Trout Farm that used to exist across the highway. Some of the original brood stock still exist and continue to naturally stock the pond. It is not uncommon to see fish that are five to ten pounds in size. We do not allow fishing from our pond.
The residents house is built to scale to the original brew master's house. While the house is only twenty-four years old it looks as though you have taken a step back in time. The name Shady Rest was given to the house by
the Brew Master's wife.
We thought it was appropriate to keep the name alive.
Shady Rest Acres is comprised of twenty-three acres of beautiful woodlands and pasture that are protected forever
in the
Minnesota Land Trust. The pasture is home to Scottish Highlander cows, two miniature donkeys, five sheep, four goats, honey bees and a flock of chickens. Scottish Highlanders
were selected for both their grazing and browsing abilities. They are very docile and make excellent pasture mates to the smaller species sharing the pasture. The cows are excellent forest managers. They
clear out invasive species such as Honey Suckle, Buckthorn, and Barberry which can often be difficult to manage. A guided tour with the host can be taken to meet the pasture animals.
The forest is comprised of many tree species. Some are unique in that they normally do not grow in this region of Minnesota. The yellow birch is a species normally found in Northern Minnesota. It's bark is golden in color and glistens when the sun hits it just right. We have a cluster of several yellow birch including one that is so big that the bark no longer looks golden but instead is grey and very rough. Years ago the largest of these trees made excellent wood for turning bowls. Blue Beech (musclewood) can also be found on the property. As the name indicates the bark is shaped like muscles. Songbirds and some other species will use different parts of the tree as a food source. Towering white pines also speckle the landscape. Mother pine requires at least two humans arm lengths to encircle the whole tree. She is a favorite resting spot for the barred owl. There is oak, elm, maple, ceders, poplars and numerous other species.
Honey bees are an integral part of the landscape. We partnered with a friend and
started raising honey bees two years ago in order to do our part to keep pollinators thriving.
Their hives are located in the pasture where it has the perfect amount of early morning sun to get them moving and afternoon shade to balance out the summer heat. It is not uncommon to see them pollinating garden plants, trees and wild flowers around the property. One of their favorite feeding spots is the acre and a half prairie which offers a range of plants including big blue stem, wild indigo and baby blue stem, to name a few. Not only are honey bees essential to the food chain but they also provide a very enriching experience when they are observed moving about their hives. There is nothing more relaxing and fascinating than watching these amazing creatures.

We have five miles of groomed trails that lead through state land to the Mud Hen Creek! Bring your kayak and pole! By the creek we have a few beaver lodges and so much wildlife to admire! As you trek along Silver Ridge Canyon, don't be surprised by the sudden flight of grouse along this trail! Visit Scout Hill for a sunny afternoon picnic; the cedar trees will lead you there. If you hear knocking, you will see Mr. Woodpecker enjoying his lunch on a nearby birch tree!
Our campsites are nestled underneath a canopy of mixed wood forest. We have birch, poplar, maple, and a variety of pine. Nearby you will find our newly finished outhouse, complete with a portable shower and natural light. You will have access to parking near or next to your site with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy! Our property features a beautiful variety of trees and plenty of trails throughout our land with wildlife you might see or hear. It might be the hoot of an owl or the drum of a grouse! You will also hear the "buck wheat" and the "chee-chee" of our guineas calling for each other.
Our beautiful forest is our main feature. Since 95% of our land is wooded, we enjoy the great beauty and majesty of the trees.
Our property extends, via trail, to state land and the Mud Hen Creek. The views are breathtaking! Please come and bring your family and friends! Our campsites' proximity would create a great weekend getaway for a retreat event or a family reunion, as well as a quiet romantic weekend!
Here at home we raise chickens, ducks, and guinea fowl. We also have a Catahola Leopard dog named Hickory. She enjoys roaming our Luna Light Trails on the off season.
When I was a child, I lived on a church camp property in Uruguay, South America. This plot of land had a grove of the most beautiful, tall, eucalyptus trees in the neighborhood. These trees were the home to Monk Parakeets. These small green parrots are the only members of the parrot family to build stick nests and to nest colonially. Needless to say, they were very loud, but one of my favorite childhood memories!
This little plot on the Minnesota map has been our home for the last six years . We have enjoyed our woods and so will you!

We had a great stay at the Singing Frog! Everything was clean, convenient and thoughtfully put together. The pond was serene and had beautiful wildlife - turtles, frogs, dragonflies to name some. We built a fire - thanks for providing the wood! The bread, eggs, fruit and yogurt were greatly appreciated. It was quiet, even though I believe there were others staying on the property. Our stay at Alpha and Omega Farm was rustically elegant in the best possible way. The simplicity was endearing, welcoming, and truly a breath of fresh air.
My daughter and I felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. Our hosts were incredibly kind and did everything they could to make sure we had a wonderful stay.
One of my favorite parts was simply being on the farm—falling asleep to the soothing sounds of the animals, getting the chance to feed the donkeys and cows, and having a place where you can sit back, settle in, and be intentional about letting go and enjoying where you are.
We treated ourselves to both the caramel rolls and the smörgåstårta breakfast, and both were amazing. The caramel rolls were soft, simple, absolutely delicious, and literally delivered hot from the oven. The smörgåstårta breakfast was a delight—the cheeses, meats, fruit, and bread paired together seamlessly. Nothing was overly complicated, and that simplicity somehow made everything even better.
The bathrooms were clean and well cared for. They are outhouse-style, with running water outside for handwashing, but this didn't detract from our stay at all—it simply fit the rustic experience.
We left feeling refreshed and grateful for the chance to slow down. Sometimes the best getaway isn't about having more—it's about having less to distract you from what matters. ❤️

This was a wonderful spot to land! All the joys of being out in nature with just the right amount of convenience built in. The land is gorgeous, the amenities are great, and Chelsi is a very responsive host. Would totally go back!

We had an awesome stay at two Aefintyr bell tents (Carya and Betulah)! The site was clean, well-prepared, and in a fantastic location for exploring the area. Chelsi was a super responsive host and understanding when we ran into a minor issue with a broken zipper on the tent.
Just a heads-up for future campers: be ready for a solid hike up the hill to get to the site! It is just as described, just over a quarter mile to gain 230' in elevation 💪
Beautiful setup overall—would definitely recommend.

4 nights at Paul’s Lakeside Cottage
We adored our stay! Our highlights were cooking over the fire, wildlife watching (we saw a few loons, some frogs, a painted turtle, lots of fish, some deer and a beaver!). We loved the canoe — the lake is beautiful and serene. We even did a little fishing and caught 3 bluegill and cooked them up for dinner. Our senior pup, Hank, was also absolutely in heaven. We found the stay private, deeply connected to nature, comfortable, and romantic. If you’re looking for a place to unplug & recharge — this is a beautiful spot to do so!
