Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain located in Marquette Township Michigan.
Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers.
Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. The cabins have access to the pond, use of the canoe, a private fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill and privy. Inside the cabins is a functional kitchen with dishes, flatware, pots and pans, so you can prepare meals onsite. Cabins also have table and chairs as well soft chairs/sofa sitting area, bookshelves with a variety of books, board games and puzzles, and covered porch in case of rain.
Our buildings, gardens, and pastures are integrated into the forested landscape and are not your typical homestead. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings, collect fresh eggs (when they are laying), lay in the hammock, listen to the sounds of nature and the barnyard or take an adventure hike, bike ride, snowshoe, or ski right out the door.
One of the most wonderful things we have to offer is the accessibility to thousands of protected acres surrounding us and the trails that bisect them. The property is on the North Country Trail, just over a Noquemanon Trail Network Forestville trailhead where access to year round recreation awaits. Hogback Mountain is just up the trail from the cabin with spectacular views of forest, mountains and lake superior.
We are located 8 miles from downtown Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where there are many great restaurants, shops, and brewpubs.
However, once you drive into Bear Tree Homestead and settle in you will not want to leave.

For the preservation of our property, our septic system, the privacy of other campers, all arrivals MUST be prior to dark setting in. If you can't see the signs and posts, you can damage our property AND your vehicle/equipment. All campers must arrive no later than 7:30 p.m. (This time limit will change throughout the year.)
*The property has a lot of wildlife; Deer, Turkey, Rabbits, Coyote, Birds, Fox.
*A small creek runs across the back of the property.
*There are many lakes just minutes away, as well as the Huron river for fishing & kayaking.
*Public beaches at Lake Chemung & Bishop Lake.
*Campfires allowed. Plenty of dead wood around, or you can purchase firewood bundles onsite.
*Potable water is available to fill tanks & containers. It is softened from the house.
*Sewer dump station is 5 miles away at Brighton Rec Area (there is a fee).
*Pets are allowed, max of 2 total (cats; dogs only). They must be leashed at all times (15 ft. max) NOTE: Portable electric fences are NOT sufficient. They MUST be leashed, no exceptions.
*Guests that are not part of the Hipcamp Reservation, are not allowed on-site. Guests will need to be met at a location other than our Hipcamp. There are numerous places nearby to gather instead. This assures maximum privacy for all sites and for our family.

This property was once part of an 80 acre farm. It has now grown into a mature forest with deer, turkey, squirrels, chipmunks, many types of songbirds and most recently a family of sandhill cranes. Our most recent improvement is an air conditioner in the Crow's Nest. Sheila grew up just across the road and spent many hours riding her horse and writing poetry on the property.
No discharge of firearms is allowed on this property.
As a retired artist, we love to entertain creative peaceful people and many think of our place as a quiet sanctuary that encourages creativity. We provide games, both outdoor and indoor, a screen house, hammock, nature trails and a new camp store with local items and snacks. There is an Amish community close by and a tour map is provided. We are also close to the largest canopy walk in the US at Whiting Forest and Dow Gardens. Only 25 minutes away. There is a small water park in the closest town with a beach. Locally there is tubing and canoeing at the Cedar River in Gladwin and kayaking at Pinconning Park on Saginaw Bay. Guests can explore many antique shops as well as Pinconna and Northwoods Outlet store. Many of our campers never leave the property but choose to relax and watch the life of the forest.
We provide linens, towels, and cookware. There is a grill outside and a microwave and oven inside along with a coffee maker and mini fridge.

2Chicks And A Farm is a small working farm on 20 acres, owned and run by Julie & Theresa Graham. We are 13 minutes from South Haven and Lake Michigan, 30 minutes from the city of Kalamazoo and just under an hour from Grand Rapids.
Those of you who have visited in the past will notice that we significantly downsized this year. Due to Township and State regulations, we are now limited to offering only four campsites unless we get licensed, which at this time is cost prohibitive. So, we have selected the four most highly rated sites and upgraded them, to truly make your experience here special.
About half of the 20 acres is wooded, with walking trails around the property, to include our fish stocked pond and a little tributary of the Black River.
All sites have a fire ring, or metal fire pit, and picnic table.
We have an outdoor propane shower that provides both hot and cold water.
A free refreshment bar is available 24/7. Feeling a little peckish before breakfast, or after dinner? Help yourself to a snack and a hot or cold drink.
You are welcome to collect eggs for breakfast and fresh produce from our gardens (for a fee).
We are a working farm and registered as two Non-Profits. One an animal rescue, primarily working with cats. At any given day we have 20-30 cats roaming around the farm. All are under the care of our vet, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and treated for fleas and ticks. All important because they will want to interact with you. Some will want to sleep with you.
Our 100 plus flock of poultry, comprised of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, free range during the day, so leave the Prada's at home.
If you are staying at Sam's Place, your closest neighbors will Penelope and Petunia, our two female sister pigs. The prevailing winds are down from your site, but you may hear them squabble. Our herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats will love your attention and treats we can provide. Arriving in March is Jack, a miniature donkey...we are very excited!
Please try to check-in by 8pm. Exceptions can be made. There are locally mandated quiet hours (10-7 Sun through Thur, and 11-7 Fri and Sat). Hanging out by a fire and chatting is fine.

We have 20 Acres of rolling hills, mostly forested, nestled on the banks of a flowing creek, we are also a dahlia flower farm; in the summer there are hundreds of dahlias blooming, along with many other flowers. We occasionally see the Aurora Borealis right from our house. We are located in beautiful Manistee, Michigan where outdoor adventures abound!! Manistee is a peaceful, quaint Northern Michigan town with shopping, antiquing, fine dining and a River Walk. We are minutes from award winning fishing spots on the Big Manistee, Little Manistee, Bear Creek Trout Streams and the Platte River. There are many opportunities to canoe, kayak and paddle board. We are 10 minutes from the Lake Michigan shore, and many beaches are close by. You have a choice of gorgeous sand beaches with picturesque dunes, and rocky beaches for those looking for fossils, agates, beach glass & beautiful beach stones. We are within an hour of Sleeping Bear Dunes with award winning hiking. Traverse City is 40 minutes away with many activities, especially the Cherry Festival. This area is known for live music venues, and lots of weekend art festivals. Manistee is also home to the Little River Casino.
We have firepits at each campsite, dry firewood is available to purchase, feel free to pay by cash, Venmo or CashApp, cost is $15.00 a wheelbarrow and can be found by the wood burning stove under shelter. Fresh flowers bouquets are available to purchase seasonally at our Floral Stand & Market. We have local NON GMO Pasture raised eggs $5 a dozen, Sourdough Bread $10, organically grown garlic, peaches, scones & fishing lures & our Guest Book! An outhouse is available for use and is supplied with toilet paper & hand sanitizer. There is a garbage can and recycling bin near the outhouse. We installed a water hydrant close to the flower bed near the wood pile so you can get potable water to bring back to your site, or hose off with on the spot. A scenic small creek runs by many of the campsites.

"Elysium Heritage Farm" is situated on 120 acres in Northeast, MI surrounded by woods, trails, ponds and canals. It's only a ten-minute drive to Pinconning, where you can experience Michigan's "Cheese Town" and all it has to offer. There's a grocery store, numerous cheese shops, and a variety of party stores and restaurants. For the outdoor enthusiasts, don't miss out on going to the ever-famous "Northwoods Wholesale Outlet". Also nearby is the "Saganing Eagles Landing Casino" in Standish. We have resided here for over 30 years and can assist you in many ways to get the most out of your visit.
By the way, the definition of the word "Elysium" is "Place of perfect bliss" and yes, we labeled it that long before the movie with Matt Damon was created.

We are a 20 acre hobby farm along the Grand River in Lowell Michigan. A walkable small town. The river is accessable to small craft. Swimming is not prohibited, but is at your own risk. Several fields are available as well as a small and large tent site along the river. Campers may park in the field.
We are located along the North Country Trail and only a few blocks from their office as well as a 10 min drive from the Kent county youth fairgrounds. 25 minutes to Ionia fairgrounds
There is several restaurants and breweries walking distance away, joined by a social district as well as several cannabis stores. A dollar store and ice cream shop are 2-3 blocks away. And a country style breakfast restaurant is next door.

I am three miles from Lake Michigan and my town has a public access beach. I am surrounded by wineries, breweries, and antique stores. I am in the country but only a few miles off the expressway. Berrien County's adorable small towns are known for their special events all year round.
My sites are dispersed so first come first choice. Find a fixed Fire Ring and set up your camp! Or pick a spot without a ring - I do have portable free fire pits.

Weekend Trip to Ricky’s Pine River hunt/camp
My son and I overnighted here after a long backpacking trip. Rick’s Cabin could not have been the more perfect place for this ole outdoorsman to stay. You really feel like you are the only one around for miles. The Cabin is constructed by Rick himself and is truly a great work of his craftsmanship. The front porch made it so easy to just relax with the beauty of the forest all around you. The Cabin was well thought out with minimal trees removed to keep it rustic and only what was absolutely needed. The inside was cozy and the beds were extremely comfortable. The wood burning stove set this cabin over the top for me. There’s nothing better. Simple and everything you need to escape the world around us. Thank you Rick for sharing this little slice of Michigan heaven with my son and I. Enjoyed meeting you.

Our site 3 stay was so great and we enjoyed our 2 nights here. With the cool weather and even cooler nights, we ended up being to only people camping here. For those considering the sites, 1,2 & 3 have more open and grassy spaces though feel less private while site 3 was more in the woods. The toilets were clean, washing water and even a solar shower were available. The location is great for hiking in the seney area, and pretty close to pictured rocks. We will be keeping this place in mind to return on future trips.

We had such an amazing time with our family. The camp site was top notch and they had so many amazing amenities. The breakfast was also delicious. The kids loved the animals and we had some cat friends at our site the whole time. This was one of our most memorable camping experiences, and we can’t wait to come back and stay again!

This was our first hipcamp experience as we usually did campgrounds with full hookups or electric only and I just got a F150 hybrid that was able to power our camper and wanted to do a non camp driveway run of our system before we tried longer stays further away from home. Julie and Tom were outstanding with descriptions of the sites, pictures, amenities and great communication through the site. We got there on a good weather day and chatted with them for a bit before we headed to our site which was exactly as described. No issues placement, leveling, etc. and the fire pit was cleaned out. Friday was a perfect day to camp. The weather went downhill and rained Saturday and Sunday but it wasn't an issue getting up the hill and out of the site. As it stated 4wd and you'd be fine. If you are looking to camp in this area please give them a try. Oh and Tom, we might be back for that F250. :-)

2 nights at Bear Tree Homestead
My husband and I stayed at the Pond Cabin for two nights and it was absolutely wonderful. The cabin is so cute, and well stocked with anything you might need to take advantage of its coziness (blankets, oil lamps, matches, tea, games!) and the property itself is gorgeous. The pond is crystal clear, and we spent a bit of time just watching the turtles and tadpoles along the edge. We also got to meet the guard dogs (SO sweet!) and the cows, which were as sweet as the dogs. The directions to get to the site were very clear (and very helpful as cell reception was spotty). For such a remote vibe, it was also surprisingly close to the grocery stores and main areas of town so we were able to get anything we wanted/needed last minute. It was a perfect getaway! There were tons of options for hiking, too, but we decided we’ll come back for that another time. We just absolutely loved this site.

Impromptu visit. Host was extremely friendly and this camp close to all the fun of manistee without regular camp ground rules. Nice folks. Recommend to any tent or small rv camper.

Wow such an amazing unique place. Holly and Doug are super nice and accommodating. We LOVED the way the property felt. There are cute cabins and separate buildings with common areas. It is very clean and well taken care of. The camping area provides lots of privacy and trails on the property as well as state trails beside the property. Would 100% recommend!

Weekend Trip to The Crow’s Nest Forest Camp
This was probably the most special cabin experience I have ever had! We got to the cabin after sundown, it was still very easy to find as Jeff had texted us detailed directions as soon as we began driving from home. The boardwalk that leads to the cabin was lit up in blue, waking up was both amazing and very safe. The cabin itself was so cozy and comfortable, the decor was really cool. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great. Sheila provided a lot of great extra stuff: coffee, firewood, toiletries, dishes , linens and lots of other things. You really just need to bring food and clothing. The trail around the property was beautiful, we loved the signs. We loved the garden and dock. All in all, it was a restorative and wonderful time at the Crows Nest and we would easily come back. We want to thank Sheila and Jeff for everything they do here and their deep hospitality. The world is that much better due to their hard work :)

We loved camping at Shawn’s place. It was beautiful, quiet and private. Shawn is a sweetheart and escorted us personally from his place in town to the site. It’s been in his family for generations and he was excited to share it with us. He even lent us his guitar!
It’s about 20 minutes from downtown Marquette. It’s 10 minutes on paved road, 5 minutes on a flat and even dirt road, and 5 minutes on what I’d consider more back country roads. Our 2WD Ford Maverick handled it just fine, but I think that’s an exception, not a rule.
We didn’t encounter much wildlife - except for an adorable family of chipmunks that loved to make as much noise as possible.
The site is very close to a lot of the trails and lakes the locals will recommend - like Dead River Falls which is beautiful!

I wasn’t quite sure what spot we had reserved was not very clear on the reservation. A great little spot though! The fisherman on the river were sometimes loud in the morning. Also, a few of the dogs from the property were very friendly, and they will take your food if you leave it out lol.
