Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain into Lake Superior.
Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers.
We have been inspired by these ancient rocks to build our homestead with materials gathered on our land.
Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques.
The Pond Cabin is completely off the grid and the Orchard Cabin with electricity and handpump water.
Our buildings, gardens, and pastures are integrated into the forested landscape and are not your typical homestead.
One of the most wonderful things we have to offer is the accessibility to thousands of protected acres surrounding us and the trails that bisect them.
We are located 8 miles from downtown Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where there are many great restaurants, shops, and brewpubs.
However, once you drive into Bear Tree Homestead and settle in you will not want to leave.

The Pond Cabin
We love Marquette
My partner and I loved our stay at the pond cabin on bear tree homestead. It was so fun being off grid a couple of nights. It’s rustic, but we loved the wood fire stove, and being greeted by the ducks every time we stepped outside. We hiked Hogsback mountain, the trail was conveniently located right off the road to the cabin. What a cute and romantic getaway for nature and Marquette lovers.

The Pond Cabin
Jill the host was very helpful when I arrived regarding the directions to the cabin. The directions are very accurate, I just wanted to check in to make sure I was following them correctly. The cabin is located in a very beautiful spot. There is everything you might need to have a pleasant stay off grid. The location is close to trails and parks.

The Pond Cabin
We absolutely loved staying in the pond cabin! It had all the amenities necessary to make “roughin it” without electricity/water comfortable. The pond is beautiful and we enjoyed the family of ducks that greeted us each morning. Jill and Nicholas were very kind and meeting them was an added bonus to the trip! If you are looking for an off the beaten path, cozy cabin to recharge, look no further. The location was perfect for us to get to MQT in less than 10 minutes, but the property “felt” so remote and peaceful. Would recommend, 10/10, highest rating! Thank you so much for your hospitality Jill, and thank you so much for the cookies! We noticed and appreciate all the extra lengths you take for your guests.

Orchard Cabin
Very peaceful and cozy grandson loved it. Cabin reminded me of my childhood watching Little House on prarie. My grandson loves TV and video games but didn't seem to miss it one bit while there. We also loved the pond with the ducks.
