Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain located in Marquette Township Michigan. Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers. Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. Our buildings, gardens, and pastures are integrated into the forested landscape and are not your typical homestead. One of the most wonderful things we have to offer is the accessibility to thousands of protected acres surrounding us and the trails that bisect them. We are located 8 miles from downtown Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where there are many great restaurants, shops, and brewpubs. However, once you drive into Bear Tree Homestead and settle in you will not want to leave.

Orchard Cabin
The Orchard Cabin at Bear Tree Homestead is such a lovely place to spend time. The cabin itself was very clean, cozy and well supplied. We stayed in the summer but we would love to go back in the winter and settle in around a fire. Jill was a great host, very responsive and helpful. Our kids loved spending time with all of the animals, especially Bjorn. The homestead property is amazing and we loved seeing the care that has been put into taking care of the land. We also loved that you can connect right from the trails on the property to the NCT and get up Hog Back mountain in less than a mile, or you can hike miles and miles through the Presque Isle tract. So much to do and enjoy. We will certainly be back.

The Pond Cabin
Staying in the Pond Canin was a delightfully restorative experience. True calm and plenty of adventure combined to create the ideal vacation. Just watching the ever changing ripples, ducks, and fish jumping in the pond was enough. Marquette’s rugged trails and secluded beaches were minutes away. We would highly recommend a visit to the homestead and all that Nick and Jill have built there.

The Pond Cabin
The Pond Cabin is a dream! Nice and secluded, right on the edge of the pond. We got to see all the local wildlife inhabitants during our stay as well as the farm animals and dogs! There detailed instructions inside the cabin that were super helpful for someone who wants to know how everything works in and around the cabin! There were more than enough blankets, kitchenware, games, lanterns/light sources, and water provided for us! And if you need anything extra or more of Jill is more than welcome to come help and assist you. And like the rental description says, there is limited service out there so make sure to get in contact with the people you need to before you head out there. My mom had a better time getting service while we were out there while I only had service a few times. There definitely were a couple spots where I had more service. Like by the shed with all of the chopped wood, which is also towards the end of the pond cabins driveway. So make sure you keep that in mind! The coordinates to get out there were spot on and I had no trouble getting out there (I’ve also lived in the area for about four year). I used google maps and had no issues or confusion when getting out there. I had the pleasure of meeting Jill and she was LOVELY. Super kind, caring and helpful. Me and my mom wanted to hike to hogback mtn during our stay and Jill was more than happy to show us on the map where to go and other helpful tidbits. Couldn’t recommend booking this place more<3

Orchard Cabin
Absolute dream getaway
The Bear Tree Homestead was more than we expected in the best way possible! The Orchard Cabin was so well crafted and set up perfectly for our group. Being able to relax by the pond, hang out with the all of the animal, and cozying up by the fireplace on a rainy day was nothing short of a dream. Jill and Nick did a wonderful job making us feel welcome and allowing us to do our own thing. We learned so much from speaking with them both! If we ever have the chance we will definitely be back!

Orchard Cabin
Private cabin at a forested farm!
Rustic cabin at its finest! Electricity but very little wifi, forested, with wildlife and beauty everywhere you look. The hosts were very respectful of our space, we had everything we needed and we felt close enough to market while still being a little bit in the wilderness. A perfect stay!
