Welcome to the Hemlock Ridge Homestead! This custom log home built in the early 2000's was a dream of mine since I was 8 years old. Our family lives here year round and absolutely love it. These sites are on a seasonal road so travel in and out can be impeded at times due to weather or external forces, such as tree falls, wash outs, etc. This is a self sufficient homestead in the making. Our garden has progressed greatly, and our fruit tree orchards are starting to produce. The free range chickens are fun and quirky, offering farm fresh eggs. We just opened our second site, the Prairieview Chalet 2024 summer. Both sites offer great amenities. The Acorn Retreat cabin includes a hot tub, gas weber grill and other amenities. The boujee outhouse is shared by both sites and is cleaned regularly. The new Prairieview Chalet is an exceptional adventurers haven! It has all the things you want after a day(s) out in the wilderness, with amenities like a hot shower, fully stocked kitchen, linens and more. Our property reflects our love of the land and space. We are always making improvements, such as the timber framed chicken coop. We now have a ping pong table for our guests, and still offer farm fresh eggs. Our motto is to make every place better than we found it and hope our guests will do the same. This is a zen, quiet place to heal, reflect and refill your cup of life:)

Acorn Retreat is a small cozy heated cabin located on the southeast side of Hogback Mountain.  It has 2 double beds, one bedroom and a loft bed, both have linens.   The cabin also has a small rustic kitchen with water, microwave, electric griddle with crockpot option, weber gas grill for cooking, refrigerator/freezer, and best of all a brand new hot tub. It has an outhouse that is very adorable. This is the place to come and reset! There are hiking and biking trails right out the door, and a boat launch for the Dead River within 2 miles. Snowmobile or ORV access to trails straight from the site. Things to expect, crowing roosters at dawn, free range chickens, we have two resident dogs and one indoor kitty, with occasional sightings of  porcupine, bear, barred owls, bald eagles and more.  Wildlife is abundant, you may hear barred owls hooting at night, coyotes yipping in the distance, see tons of chipmunks, red squirrels, birds, especially hummingbirds. In winter we see more deer come in and hear wolves occasionally in the far distance. There are trails leading to Hogback, Lily Pond and Harlow Lake.  Surrounded by ridges on the backside and a prairie on the front side, there is plenty of places to explore. It is just 1.6 miles from the Noquemanon Trail Network (north trailhead), which has hundreds of miles of summer mountain biking, hiking trails and winter xc skiing, fat tire biking and skijoring trails. For more information on the trails visit noquetrails.org.   We offer ORV guided tours for both dirt bikes and snowmobiles depending on the season or go on your own with the Michigan maps. ORV vehicles must have a current trail sticker to be legal, these can be purchased at many local businesses. ***Disclaimer: the road to our site is a seasonal, non-maintained county road of gravel, sometimes pot holes and mud puddles or even a downed tree happen. Almost any car can make it to our house, but low profile tires and cars could be a challenge in dry weather due to deep sand or fresh deep snow in winter.

Prairieview Chalet is a custom built tiny house with the adventurer in mind. It has a fully functioning kitchen for making culinary feasts fit to revitalize and nourish your body after hiking, skiing, biking, or any other UP adventure. This kitchen has all the spices, baking needs and utensils you need for any meal. Boosting a hot shower and cozy wood burning stove for relaxing, cuddling in and replenishing your soul. The out house is cute and clean, just 150 feet from the chalet. On one side of the Chalet you have a native pocket prairie with beautiful flowers, grasses and wildlife; on the other side a mystical ridge with moss, rock outcroppings and trees' roots winding down the ridge. This space has an auditory magic to it, perfect for strumming guitars, drumming or just meditating. There is an area to sit undercover and enjoy the peace and beauty. Prairieview Chalet is less than one mile from epic cross country ski, skijour, snowbike, mountain bike and hiking trails. We are within 5 miles of Lake Superior beaches and trailways. Fishing is very close at hand with the dead river boat launch 2 miles from the site. There are plenty of places to rock or ice climb depending on season. For those who love the motor sports, dirt bike, ORV and snowmobile trails are within riding distance of the site, no trailering necessary.

One of my favorite stays ever!!
Prairieview Chalet
Absolutely loved staying here! The chalet is nestled among wildflowers and a mossy pine forest—beautiful both inside and out. It's a small space, but incredibly functional and luxurious. The host was fantastic and went out of their way to accommodate my partner and me in every way we needed. It is about an hour from Pictured Rocks, but the drive is scenic and enjoyable. Lots to do nearby as well (hikes, parks, + you should go to Lakenenland Sculpture Park if you like cool art!!). 10/10, I highly recommend staying at the Prairieview Chalet!

My boyfriend and I throughly enjoyed our week here! We enjoyed cooking meals together in our tiny cabin and the area was perfectly secluded, while still being close to stores and all the places we wanted to explore. We explored Mackinaw Island, Dead River Falls, Sugarloaf Mountain, as well as Blackrock beach which was one of our favs. We also challenged ourselves to the 10.5 mile hike throughout pictured rocks and saw some of the most beautiful sights and when definitely recommend if you're up for the challenge! Thank you April for letting us use your gas grill when we couldn't figure out the charcoal one LOLL. We definitely enjoyed our week in the woods and can't wait to come back!!

This place is incredible. Scenic, secluded land with a beautiful, clean cabin and a warm, friendly host. Perfect as an adventure launch point for a weekend trip and even better for staying awhile with the excellent kitchen and shower. I hope to return soon!

We enjoyed it here very much. I was a little suprised to see the main house so close to the site but it didnt matter. The hot tub was really relaxing after a day of excitement. The outhouse was cute and clean. The beds were comfy and the whole place had a great vibe. Loved the dogs, loved the chickens and the hosts. Would recommend.

Everything about this place suited our needs. Peace and quiet. Far away but close to town. HOT TUB! Super clean. And a very cool host. Little tricky to find at first. But what a spot. Close to trails. Quaint. Lovely. You get the point.

Such a fun and quaint little place in the woods. I stayed with my two young daughters on our way through town. We loved the hot tub and the quaintness of being in a tiny little cabin together. Close enough to town, but also far enough away. The host was great and extremely accommodating.

Acorn Retreat
The Acorn retreat is such a memorable getaway from the daily routine. My best friend and I were up in the area for a ski/board trip and I’m convinced there’s no better place to stay than here. From the acorn retreat, to the tiny home, and the entire homestead itself, you find yourself inspired and soothed to everything this place has to offer and the warm welcoming and conversations with April and her amazing family. I will always highly recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a great and relaxing time. I’ve personally been here once in the fall and once in the winter and this place was jaw dropping each time and will continue to be for future visits. April is an amazing host, goes above and beyond for her guest, has amazing recommendations for the area and will help you in any way they can. We’re all looking forward to coming back and taking in this beautiful place that April’s family have created many more times. Thank you for everything!

This property is tucked away in the woods but close enough to run into town. We had zero issues finding the place. It’s a really cute property. Hot tub was used a couple times. Little conveniences were provided within the cabin and facilities ☺️. We used microwave and hot plate for cooking. A grill was available. There were four of us adult women for a girls getaway. No issues fitting in the space.

My friend and I stayed here friday-sunday at the end of October. We wanted a girl's weekend getaway and boy did we get it! The tiny home was very cute and eclectic in decorations. Arriving to a fresh from the chicken dozen eggs was phenomenal. We also pre-ordered firewood and the fire ring was set up and ready to go upon arrival. Unfortunately, we were in a fire ban and were unable to use it. April offered to refund us for the firewood. The hot tub was phenomenal the first night we arrived. I think we stayed in there for 5 hours enjoying adult beverages, talking, and listening to music. There was a nice partition on the side facing the house that provided privacy. The grill definitely came in clutch during the fire ban as we had planned to use the campfire for making meals. Having the hiking trails within walking distance from our site was phenomenal. Heads up to future visitors: the hike is no joke. Wear hiking boots especially if you're not use to the terrain. There is electric but only two outlets so keep that in mind. Thankfully my CPAP has a long plugin cord and made it from the kitchenette to the bedroom easily. My friend and I agreed we'd love to come back! Super friendly dogs on the property were a huge plus as dog lovers.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Acorn Cottage. We saw the northern lights, the most incredible performance. The location and set up was great. Unfortunately the hosts did not set up the propane for the furnace before we arrived so we were in the 50 degree cabin with a baby for over an hour before we figured it out ourselves. The water jug was not full and we had to go get our own drinking water in town as there were no instructions left for us on where to fill the water. I think it was probably just a long season of hosting and some things fell through the cracks but for $200/night I was a little disappointed. Overall a good stay though!

April is a lovely host and great person! We stayed here with our one-year-old and since the camp is closer to other sites than we realized, we did worry about our noise level. The outdoor bathroom was near and stocked with everything you need. The cabin was very clean. All around a good stay!

April’s prairie view tiny house is the perfect place for a Marquette getaway; it’s cozy, well appointed & remote yet near great hiking & MTB trails (NTN Forestville North trailhead is just down the road). This tiny house was designed for cooking with a spacious kitchen as well as reading/snuggling with a cozy nook with a small wall-hung fireplace & loft bed.

April & Mike were such amazing hosts! The tiny house we stayed in was so cozy and made us feel right at home we didn’t want to leave. They thought of everything, from firewood for the mini fireplace to oats, flour, and sugar for baking oatmeal blueberry cookies. The cabin was super cute, and we loved the hot shower and the comfy loft. Plus, it felt like we had our own little private spot on their property. The outhouse was better than we expected, really clean and just fine. My boyfriend had a blast on the bike trails, while I enjoyed hiking and relaxing in the hammock swing with my book. Beautiful tiny home with a great pollinator garden and gorgeous surrounding woods. Also a nice hot shower. Easy access to local trails. April was a very accommodating and friendly host. Thanks for introducing us to the chickens! I would definitely recommend and will hopefully be back

Much needed and welcoming get away

We just loved staying at April and Mike’s property. It was just what we needed to relax. They set us up with a dozen eggs and a bundle of wood for our private fire pit. The cabin was so welcoming, clean and super comfy. We were so happy to meet other members of the family and their dog, Jasper. April was kind enough to show us the property and we even got to feed the chickens. It felt like a home away from home and we couldn’t have been happier. Thanks so much and we hope to see you again in the future! We 100% recommend this lovely retreat for a relaxing and special stay you won’t forget for years to come. :-) Lauren and Adam

The tiny home we stayed in was beautifully crafted, cozy, and quaint, offering a perfect blend of comfort and charm. Nestled in nature, the chalet provided exactly the tranquility we were seeking. The setting was serene and secluded, even with other guests nearby, and the views from the tiny home were stunning—wildflowers from one window and rugged rocks from the other. The location is ideal for exploring Harlow Lake and numerous hiking trails that showcase the remarkable beauty of the Yoop. The tiny home was wonderfully designed and very well-maintained. We especially appreciated the firepit in the back, which was perfectly secluded for a quiet night of roasting s'mores. April, our host, was incredibly kind and knowledgeable, providing great insights about the area. Her lil dog, Jasper, was a friendly companion who added an extra touch of warmth to our stay. Most essentials were provided, including dish soap, pots, pans, silverware, plates, and cups. Just a heads up to future guests—bring your own shower supplies, although bath towels are provided. Forestville, the road leading to the chalet, is narrow, so be prepared to pull over and let other travelers pass. Also, bring a writing utensil to sign the guest book—unfortunately, we didn’t have one on hand! Check out Dead River Coffee downtown and visit the Top of the World outlook, which is not far from the homestead. I look forward to visiting again. Thank you April!

Our stay with April was amazing! The cabin was so cozy, and had everything we could need. The property was so peaceful, and just beautiful! I was there to photograph a wedding in Marquette and my boyfriend stayed back to chill for the day. He said it was super relaxing! We will definitely be back again - for pure relaxation next time!! I also think visiting in the winter months would be absolutely stunning. That just might be next on our list 😌

This was our second year at April’s and we will definitely be back. Her property is to die for! It’s nothing short of paradise. It brought me deep peace for a second year and I left feeling refreshed and ready to go home to pack up and move all our stuff to the UP. April, her husband, and son are great hosts who offer knowledge of the area, a clean cabin, a hot tub, bedding, towels, grill, microwave, coffee pot, most kitchen items including seasonings, fire pit, and great views. About 15 minutes away from the town of Marquette but very deep into the woods where you will feel connected to nature and disconnected from the outside world.

I loved being immersed in nature at this HipCamp site. The entire place is very peaceful. The hosts are welcoming and have created a lovely place to share with visitors. The hot tub at the Acorn Cabin is such a nice way to end a day of adventures.
