The campsites are good sized and private from other sites. Chris (Hambone) was an excellent host! He knows a lot about the area and is more than happy to share some tips! We will definitely stay again the next time we’re in the area.

Site 2 - Sun/PM Shade☀️

My boyfriend and a couple of friends stayed at High Swamp and we don’t have anything but good things to say about it. It’s not only beautiful and well kept but the peaceful surroundings make it the perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy being outdoors. We could see an insane amount of stars at night, something you just don’t get to experience in most places anymore. It was undeniably breathtaking. The outdoor shower is a hit and truly makes it a rustic experience without the discomfort. Hambone was an amazing and attentive host and we would be lucky to go back.

Camping Up North!

The entire experience was a joy! The individual sites are large and private. The bathroom is very small but adequate for its purpose. Loved the outdoor shower! Chris checked in on us everyday to ensure that we were well taken care of! I would highly recommend the site and hope to stay there again in the future!

Solo Female Car Camper w/ my dog

This site was just perfect! I was traveling alone/car camping with my dog and we had the best time! Chris is responsive and helpful, The sites are so private and large, I had Site#1, just a walk across the "road" to BR/shower. The "outhouse" is a flush toilet with sink/running water and the outdoor hot shower was divine! The common area was a short walk around the bend and a lovely place to chill and charge/get wifi. I ate lunch there one day at the picnic table and had a nice chat with Chris. Don't miss the Grand Sable hike and a trip into Grand Marais (only 20 min away, Chris' recommendation) Lovely little town and The Dream Bean had amazing coffe and cute shop. Highly recommend!

High Swamp Camp is meticulously cared for - it is pristinely clean and has the best amenities. This is a MUST-DO if you’re in the area - and I would go out of my way to go back. This is a truly idyllic camping experience - it will certainly exceed your expectations. Thanks for a great trip!

Loved the place! It’s perfect for a quiet, relaxing family vacation. The host was very helpful, friendly, and responsive. The flush toilet was great, and the shower was available and well maintained. Firewood is available about 2.5 miles away, so it’s good to plan ahead. There is no phone signal at the property, so downloading offline maps before your trip is highly recommended. Wifi is available near the entrance. Overall, we had a wonderful stay!

Our stay at High Swamp Camp was fantastic! Chris is a friendly host, and the property is a quiet slice of nature. We saw deer every day, and the outdoor shower is quite the experience. This place is in the middle of nowhere, and a great home base for day trips. It was convenient to have the commons area, with WiFi, to hang out and check your email each day. We would definitely recommend this campground and will be staying there again, if we’re ever in the area.

This was a great campground! The campsites were spacious, and the outhouse & shower were extremely well maintained. The common area with WiFi and a charging area was nice to have. It’s clear that Chris takes great care of this property and he was super friendly and offered great suggestions for things to do in the area. Would definitely come back!

What a awesome campground. We came 12 hours from Kentucky. Chris is a great camp host. The sites are huge and spaced out perfectly. The outdoor shower is a cool feature! Will be coming back! A top camping spot for sure!

This land was awesome! Chris does a great job. Greeted us when we got in and made sure we had our bearings. Loved the privacy the sites give, the outhouse/shower is a huge pro, and we loved our time here. Would recommend 10 times out of 10!

Beautiful land, level for tents. Amenities were so nice! The outdoor shower was cool and the outhouse was clean and private. Our weather was awful for this trip, but still managed to have a blast, so 100% worth it! Hambone is also hilarious and we’d return just to hang out with him!

A true hidden gem, the owner Chris "Hambone" was wonderful, very knowledgeable about the area, he gave many great suggestions about food and attractions, He helped us with directions a few times also. The facility was clean and well maintained, the only issue our group had, Chris dropped what he was doing and fixed it immediately, a very attentive host. This location is well placed in an area so that many attractions are very close, 4-wheeler/snowmobile trails are all around, many parks, and beaches only a short drive away. Family friendly, definitely recommend, having a shower and flush toilet with the kids was very nice.

This site was perfect. We took a very quick trip to the UP to see a few sites over 2 days and tent camped. It's remote but just close enough to hop up to Grand Marais for a bite to eat, supplies, and a short hike at Pictured Rocks. The site was quiet and the flush toilet was spotless. The outdoor shower was incredible. The hot water is HOT and it was so relaxing to look up and see the sky and trees overhead. This spot is truly a gem. Hambone was a delightful host, very friendly, gave us suggestions, and checked in to make sure we were doing well. We have done a lot of traveling to national and state parks and this site is near the top of the list. Do not pass this up!

10/10 Recommend High Swamp Campground!! My boyfriend & I love a good adventure & that’s exactly what we got. We pitched a tent on site number 5 & braved a winter storm that nobody could’ve prepared enough for. Chris was an excellent host through it all. His outstanding communication & appreciated support was the cherry on top of an incredible trip. The campground itself is private, helping us feel truly submerged in nature. We will definitely be back!!
