Over the years, we have planted many different varieties of trees and perennials to observe. Also evidence exists of this area being an Indian camp long ago as suggested by arrowheads and an old handmade rock wall.

Clayton Geneva Camp Ground began as a retreat for our family since the 70's. My grandparents, Donald Clayton Russell & Jewel Geneva (Davis) Russell, purchased this little piece of heaven to get away from the hustle and bustle of Cincinnati life. Judy was born in a little cabin just down the road. Judy & Don along with many family members have made cherished memories here over the years. We want to share its beauty with you and your family.
Please consider, Clayton Geneva is a primitive campground, gravel drives and left as natural as possible. This is not a sculpted campsite or a concrete campground. The primitive area is as such, gravel, grass, sand terrain accessible by a one lane gravel drive that leads over the hill and around the cliff to the riverbank. This drive is absolutely passable however is left bumpy to keep traffic at a safe speed as pedestrians also walk the drive. It is passable by any vehicle as long as the vehicle is not overloaded beyond its ability and/or has an extremely low profile.
Any area that is not an actual campsite is left to nature, not manicured, trimmed or sculpted. As you’ll find all the sites are clear please don’t expect micromanaging of wild growth of our native plants in areas around the sites as we reserve those areas for the wildlife to enjoy.
Please consider all the above mentioned details, primitive campsites are not for everyone and that’s ok.

ATTRACTIONS: Goldenrod Gap is a peaceful refuge nestled in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, in Menifee County minutes from Red River Gorge, Natural Bridge, Cave Run Lake, Broke Leg Falls Park and the Sheltowee Trace Trail. The sites are newly developed and being added to frequently.
As you enter the camp you will cross a bridge and are welcomed by two majestic hillsides onto the 35 acre property. These hills have a variety of trails from rustic to groomed, which are open to foot traffic only. On the trails you will find many species of vegetation and natural resources, which range from easy, moderate to strenuous, distances vary, short hikes take minutes. A few hikes take longer and have more strenuous terrain.
There are native trees, which includes Tulip Poplar, (the Kentucky state tree), giant oaks (hundreds of years old), several variety of pine trees, holly, hemlock, beech, ironwood, sassafras, box elder and maple. Take a walk, take pictures and bring a picnic lunch. In the summer there are beautiful flowering goldenrod, and many pollinators and addition forest wildflowers all year. These pollinator magnets definitely lure numerous birds and insects for your viewing pleasure. There are beautiful rock ledges to enjoy as well.
CAMPSITES: #1 The RV campsite is easily accessed from the highway and includes water, electricity, septic dump station, shower, restroom and high speed internet. Cross over the bridge, entrance is limited to shorter trailers, campers and RVs under 25 feet long. You will turn left and cross over a small creek and arrive at your site. Choose where to park on the road or set a tent on the soft sandy spot. Video surveillance is on site.
Rustic camping is available on a scenic overlook with an outdoor toilet nearby. There are two sites to choose from Site #2 and site #3. A general area is designated for both.
Drop in after a long days journey on the longer trails or cliffs in the area and enjoy a respite from the hustle and bustle of the world out there. Pitch a tent and sleep under a display of stars, especially if you are viewing from the ridge line at the rustic sites and if you are lucky you might hear a greeting from a hoot owl or whippoorwill trill.

We’re a pet-friendly property because we know adventures are better with your furry friends. Campfires are welcome, and we even provide firewood to make your evenings extra cozy. You’ll also find portable toilets and two centrally located showers (naturally warmed by the sun!) for your convenience.
IMPORTANT: We do not accept late-night bookings or late arrivals. All guests must arrive by 6 PM local time.
This allows us to personally greet you and guide you to your glamping site or campsite. Our 27 acres mark where rolling farmland gives way to steep, forested hillsides. End-of-the-road and ridgetop, it's private by nature. Campsites are tucked in woods shared with turkey, deer, owls, and woodpeckers. Wander wide strolling paths, single-track hiking trails, open fields, and forest — or settle onto the porch of a historic log home.
We're a quieter, acoustic kind of place. Great for travelers passing through or locals needing a quick and beautiful outing. Solo campers, friends, families — newbies or seasoned. Drive-in sites make loading and unloading easy.
Amenities: Privacy! We book only two sites at a time, set far apart and wrapped in woods. Also included: an exceptional outhouse, tables, fire rings, lanterns, and a Welcome kit (paper, fatwood, lighter, candle). Firewood available during booking or on arrival.
Site 1 – Open Sky — A large field edged by forest. Fits solo or groups, tents to small campers. Extras: hammock, trampoline, badminton & cornhole by request. Closest to the cabin, strolling trails, firewood shed, and outhouse.
Site 2 – Gobbler's Knob — Cozier. A small rise surrounded by woods. Short walk to the outhouse and firewood shed. Park on-site or at the entrance, just 50' away.

We have almost 200 acres of beautiful country surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest in Rockcastle County. With a mile of river to swim, kayak, and fish and enchanted forest trails to hike, climb, or play, we have all of the best Kentucky has to offer! We have more established sites with fire rings, or you can find a place off the beaten path for more privacy, if you choose. The riverside is perfect for hammock camping, too.
We love music and often host bands on the weekends. We rent kayaks and run shuttle on site, as well.
While there are almost 200 acres to escape into, on any fine night, the stage sits wit a drum kit and the will to make music within the Daniel Boone National Forest. Come play, come get away....we have it ALL!

Choose from scenic tent sites, RV-friendly spots, and creative glamping stays like our repurposed grain bin or our open air structures. Please note: for most glamping stays, you’ll need to bring your own bedding (sleeping mats, bags, blankets, pillows). The Fox Den and Peace Pipe are the only exceptions—they come fully equipped!
Spend your days kayaking, fishing, tubing, or simply relaxing beside the river. The surrounding area is full of Kentucky gems—Mammoth Cave, Cave City, Nolin Lake, Green River Lake, Diamond Caverns, and more—all just a short drive away.
We’re a pet-friendly property because we know adventures are better with your furry friends. Campfires are welcome, and we even provide firewood to make your evenings extra cozy. You’ll also find portable toilets and two centrally located showers (naturally warmed by the sun!) for your convenience.
IMPORTANT: We do not accept late-night bookings or late arrivals. All guests must arrive by 6 PM local time.
This allows us to personally greet you and guide you to your glamping site or campsite. If something unexpected comes up and you’re concerned about arriving late, please send us a message in advance—we’ll do our best to help. Even though there is complete peaceful seclusion it does get a little noisy when the bullfrogs start their evening ritual. There is a dock and pier perfect for fishing or swimming. Firepit, grill with gas provided, two boats, lots of seating on the wrap around porch, two bedrooms; one with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds and just lots of natural beauty and peace! The Harrican Lalehouse provides all the ammenities to make your stay comfortable and relaxing! Warm weather is here — and so welcomed. Winter delivered plenty of snow and brutal cold, but that's behind us. Away is greening up and ready for camping.
Away sits at the entry point to western Boone County in Northern Kentucky — neighbor to Cincinnati, Rabbit Hash, and the Ohio River. Our 27 acres mark where rolling farmland gives way to steep, forested hillsides. End-of-the-road and ridgetop, it's private by nature. Campsites are tucked in woods shared with turkey, deer, owls, and woodpeckers. Wander wide strolling paths, single-track hiking trails, open fields, and forest — or settle onto the porch of a historic log home.
We're a quieter, acoustic kind of place. Great for travelers passing through or locals needing a quick and beautiful outing. Solo campers, friends, families — newbies or seasoned. Drive-in sites make loading and unloading easy.
Amenities: Privacy! We book only two sites at a time, set far apart and wrapped in woods. Also included: an exceptional outhouse, tables, fire rings, lanterns, and a Welcome kit (paper, fatwood, lighter, candle). Firewood available during booking or on arrival.
Site 1 – Open Sky — A large field edged by forest. Fits solo or groups, tents to small campers. Extras: hammock, trampoline, badminton & cornhole by request. Closest to the cabin, strolling trails, firewood shed, and outhouse.
Site 2 – Gobbler's Knob — Cozier. A small rise surrounded by woods. Short walk to the outhouse and firewood shed. Park on-site or at the entrance, just 50' away.
Site 3 – Henry's Holler — By request only. 4WD overlanders exclusively. Read the full site description before requesting.
All sites welcome tents, small pop-ups, pull-behind trailers, and hammocks.
Curvy, scenic roads lead quickly from the paved world of Union, KY to us — and onward to the Rabbit Hash General Store, the Ohio River, Dinsmore Homestead, Middle Creek Park, Big Bone State Park, and the Creation Museum. Due to the sharp entrance from the road to the driveway, we CANNOT accept rigs over 34' long. We cannot accept 5th wheels (due to height) because of some lower hanging tree branches along the driveway. WE DO NOT ACCEPT LONG TERM STAYS!
This land has previously been a tobacco farm, a hay farm, and is now home to a few beef cattle. We have blazed trails through the woods for hiking, created campsites with fire rings, farmed hay, and grown various vegetables for self-consumption. We love the proximity of the farm to town, yet the seclusion we feel when we are on the farm.

Such a beautiful, quiet location right on the water. All of the sites are maintained well along with the amenities. There’s a porta potty near the campsites themselves and then a small bathroom/shower room a little up the drive on the main property. I know the site areas have a history of flooding easily since it’s right on the water, luckily I had amazing weather while there and I know I would have been accommodated on the upper land area if need be!

Very peaceful and private. The stars in the sky above the trees was a pretty mellow feeling. Something happened during a storm I would imagine and host quickly got back with me about grabbing another site (completely out of their control). I’d stay again for sure. Plan on it matter of fact. Maybe check out that cave spot!

This is the perfect spot if you want to get away from it all. Its remote, serene, and we'll kept. Its not a big park, nor is it a resort, but it was lovely. There arent amenities, but there are farm animals, green grass, blue sky and quiet.
Amber, the owner, is a truly kind human and she cares for her guests and her animals. She even provides a bucket to save scraps for her chickens! I absolutely loved being there and hope we can return again.

Ambers spot was perfect. Peaceful, private, and by the water. It was the perfect stop off for two nights as I made my way through. Amber was kind, polite and more than attentive. So much that she even offered her KY hospitality and charm to solve any of my dilemmas. Great spot with great people and easily accessible. Plus I was able to purchase some local honey from
her farm too. Highly recommend to all.

One of the most beautiful campgrounds I've been to. Plus it was close to other falls and kayak launches. Cleanest port o potty I have ever seen, and the shower stayed warm long enough for both my son and I to get decent showers. I do recommend a large bucket for water, we only brought a small one and it's about .5 mile walk up the drive to get potable water. Also bring tick spray, I had 5, my husband 2, and my youngest 3. There are some that help if sprayed beforehand on the site and clothes, I just didn't think of it, and we may have just walked into a hatch. Also, where we stayed the swimming is not good for kids, too stong of a current, but further down we noticed there are larger rocks and it gets shallower, so if you have kids I recommend a site downstream. Overall it's a gorgeous place to stay, Amber and the gentleman that helps are very kind. Its quiet and safe and our kids didn't want to leave, even though they could not access internet! Which was also very nice!

We absolutely loved primitive camping on Scott’s property by the creek. Our only neighbors were the deer, turkey, owls and foxes! Our fur babies were able to run free and enjoy the creek as well. We caught several small mouth and red eye bass! Scott was also an excellent host, offering fresh eggs, milk, and firewood! Will definitely be back when it warms up a little.

Although I was up by the RV’s & restroom, I took a walk down by the river where the tent camping is. I was only there to sleep, basically.
But the river sites are incredible! I’m SO coming back to camp down there, & taking a few days for it. Amber was awesome!

I recently enjoyed a wonderful camping trip at Dons Watch. The setting offered a stunning vantage point and a calm, scenic backdrop that made the stay special. This was a great safe spot about 10 minutes off the highway on my way thru. Arrived at about 10pm and was back on the road by 8:30. The bathroom was clean and close by + Amber let me fill my water up before heading out (THANK YOU!) Would love to come back and stay at one of the riverside sites!

My partner and I showed up as the sun was setting after finding this site on iOverlander, and Amber kindly showed us around and got us settled right away. We had a beautiful site to ourselves right on the river and enjoyed the peace and quiet under the stars. Amber supplied us with lots of firewood, definitely worth the add-on. We only wished we would’ve arrived earlier to see the farm animals! The next morning we felt so grateful to take hot showers in a clean bathroom. We will definitely come back again if we find ourselves in the area. Thank you Amber!
