Bright Star Campground: Originally established in 2012 as a church camp, it is now a place to connect, create, and rejuvenate in this spectacular high desert landscape. Bright Star Campground is located in the Great Sage Plain in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic views of the Four Corners region, and only 5 miles southeast of Cortez. We are a cannabis-friendly destination but ask that cannabis use stay at your campsite, cabin or tipi. There are many attractions nearby, such as Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World Mountain Biking. Raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent a SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir. We are located 45 minutes from Durango, 1.5 hours from Telluride, and about 2 hours from Moab (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks). The nearest airport is in Durango. The nearest large international airports are in Salt Lake City or Albuquerque.

Hi! We are a bright, young family, & small community, developing our 42 acres in Crestone, Colorado. Our property features a host of cottonwood trees, a creek, two outdoor bath houses, a fire pit, a 1.5 acre mini farm in progress. There are two new bell tents, available with up to 3 single beds, or one king. There are ample tent camping locations, and shore power for vans/rvs. The property is also home to abundant wildlife including a Great Horned Owl, Coyote packs, Elk, Deer, Woodpeckers, Hummingbirds, Bobcats, Bats and Frogs. Crestone is a beautiful, remote, high desert wilderness surrounded by classic Colorado (almost) 14-ners with high alpine lakes, rivers, hot springs, rock climbing, mountain biking, and our property borders on the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Crestone is also known for its 30 diverse spiritual centers, incredible star gazing, alien sightings, and it's beautiful and unique housing community that focuses on building with reclaimed and natural building methods. Our home, like many of the homes here, is creatively made from recycled materials, using two train cars for the body of the house. The property also hosts a 1200 square foot Dojo, built by the previous owner, a Qi Gong master lineage carrier. We continue use the space for yoga, capoiera, dance and other events. We are completely off grid, using solar power, wood heat and some propane when needed. We aren't on sewer or septic, so this is an opportunity for the understanding of composting toilet and humanure systems. That may seem low-tech overall but, we are blessed with the infinite power of Starlink internet! Great opportunity for part time mobile office types. Our goals on the property are to enhance our lives, and those in our community, with everything we do here. It is a remote space and you feel so small being surrounded by the mountains. Love this open, vast area that holds a space for people to be in nature safely. The kitchen is well stocked with goodies. Everything is a quick stroll away from the teepee. The bathroom has adorable art and quotes on the wall to brighten the space up. Our teepee was warm, spacious and cozy! It rained over night and listening to the rain hit the teepee was calming. Wish we were here for two nights, but we had a quick over night stay. Love this spot and would totally come back.

Weekend Trip to Whispering Pines Glamping

We really enjoyed our weekend stay here! We came with my toddler and dog and they both enjoyed playing outside during the day and stayed cozy and warm in the tent during the chilly night. The site was well supplied and conveniently set up and Marsha was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. The land is beautiful and the leaves were starting to turn golden. It was so secluded and peaceful; the stars were unbelievable and we could hear coyotes at night and it was so quiet we could hear the flapping of bird wings during the day. I would love to come back and stay here again another time.

We enjoyed our stay. The Raven tipi was comfortable and spacious for three of us + gear. And to have the kitchen to use was fantastic! And the freezer & ice maker made our water situation for desert hiking so easy. Bathrooms were super clean. Shower building was good too. Rustic, and walled in, but open to the air. Chatting with folks from all parts of the US was a nice bonus too. And our second morning there, we were greeted by a raven perched on top of the tipi. Highly recommend. And if you walk the trails to the bathrooms at night using a headlamp, see if you can spot the sparkles on the ground.

I had such a wonderful time on Lydia’s land. The views are incredibly beautiful and serene. Although it rained most of the time I was there, I stayed warm and dry in the tent. The bed was super comfy, and the shower was HOT. The host family is lovely. I definitely recommend!

This was the best camping experience I’ve ever had! My daughter called me and told me about this place and we immediately booked it. Imagine you’re at 10,000 feet on 160 acres on the most beautiful countryside in Colorado and you’re only ones there! 1 campsite, all to yourself with all the amenities you could possibly hope for! Mike and Marsha have thought about everything, we will be back here year after year and make sure we stay more than just 2 nights! If there’s any question in your mind about booking here, just do it!! You come back and refer this place to your friends, that’s how good it is!

One of my favorite stays I’ve done! Instructions on how to get there/park were very clear. Property was beautiful with the sounds of nature and wildlife near by. Having the tent that faced the mountain made waking up and watching the sunrise was breathtaking! Chairs were out side the teepee so we got to enjoy all the star gazing and shooting stars. Can’t wait to stay again for another get away.

We had the best time at this camp spot. The hosts provided everything we needed for an easy getaway from Denver. The yurt was HUGE and allowed for us to play board games indoors while it rained. We saw no people, only some deer while we were camping. We will definitely be back!

We had an amazing stay at this campsite! My husband, our daughter, dog, and I stayed in a cozy teepee that made the experience extra special. The amenities were excellent, and having access to the kitchen made meals so easy. Our daughter absolutely loved the playground, and we all enjoyed the incredible views of the stars at night. The location is perfect—just a short drive to Mesa Verde. Highly recommend this spot for families and anyone looking for a unique and safe stay!
