All of our sites and amenities can be booked for retreats or events. There are two large covered pavilions. We customize reservations for small and large groups or longer stays. There are furnished tipis, camping cabins, tent/RV/van sites, and a Navajo Hogan (wooden yurt).
Bright Star Campground: Originally established in 2012 as a church camp, it is now a place to connect, create, and rejuvenate in this spectacular high desert landscape.
Bright Star Campground is located in the Great Sage Plain in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic views of the Four Corners region, and only 5 miles southeast of Cortez.
We are a cannabis-friendly destination but ask that cannabis use stay at your campsite, cabin or tipi.
There are many attractions nearby, such as Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World Mountain Biking. Raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent a SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir.
We are located 45 minutes from Durango, 1.5 hours from Telluride, and about 2 hours from Moab (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks).
The nearest airport is in Durango. The nearest large international airports are in Salt Lake City or Albuquerque.

Just off of CR102, we are conveniently located to the little town of Guffey and are only 3 miles from the wildly popular Guffey Gorge. Additionally, Eleven Mile Reservoir, The Royal Gorge, gambling at Cripple Creek, the Colorado Wolf Sanctuary, the Florissant Fossil Beds and many more areas of interest and recreation are within an easy drive.
You can open camp here and be completely off-grid or you can park near our barn and have access to electricity and wifi.
We also offer Glamping Overnights in Gypsy, an adorable tiny camper with a double bed, sofa, 2 burner cooktop and everything you need to have a comfortable stay while still having a camping experience! Glamping stays are still largely off-grid with a "Luggable Loo" and an outdoor Joolca shower (upon request). Our new stargazing dome is a truly unique experience where you can sleep under the stars and be completely surrounded by nature. Situated where you have lots of privacy and can enjoy the breathtaking views all around you.
If you want to upgrade your experience, we offer Romance Packages with charcuterie boards, a bottle of bubbly, chocolate covered strawberries and can create unforgettable special occasions since we are in the wedding/events industry! We have Mini Donkeys, a horse named Bebe, Chickens and 2 Livestock Guardian Dogs. *Please be aware that the dogs are working dogs and you WILL hear them bark at night as they are doing their job in deterring predators.

This is the most charming Dome with all of the amenities, a full kitchen with accessories, table with chairs, full bath, a work station, Wi-Fi, etc. Inside you will find the dome to be spacious and very comfortable.
It is great for couples, (Smart Queen bed with (2) 73" cots provided in case friends come), solo adventurers, and business travelers. The dome sits on 2 acres. It is 1 mile from a fishing pond as well as 1 ½ miles from a national forest with ATV trails. Beautiful 360 degree views from the wrap around deck!

Hospitality was top notch. If you’re not used to camping in a community space it can feel a bit different. Lots to do there, and Telluride is about an hour and a half away and so are the bridal veil falls. If you plan on going to Mesa Verde make sure to book your in advance because some of the areas are only accessible through tours.

We chose this site as a spot in between Great Sand Dunes and our next stop. It was a neat experience, pulling into the campsite with the sun setting -the sky was a vibrantly beautiful backdrop for the tipis. The tipi was spacious enough for our young family of 6, 2 adults in the bed, 2 bigger kids on the foldout futon and two littles on camping mats in the floor. Waking up to a sky lit up inside of a tipi was majestic! The camp kitchen, showers and bathrooms were useful. Kitchen was stocked for use, showers were creative and clean. Bathroom, while still a pit toilet, was painted and clean and well appointed. Put us very close to our next stop, Mesa Verde Natl park. Definitely bring your family here if you’re out this way, really memorable night for us, sleeping in a tipi!

The view from the bell tent is lovely. We enjoyed how private the campsite was even though it was only a short walk from the common areas. The tent was very well equipped with blankets, chairs and plenty of space. Highly recommended for those that don't own much of their own camping equipment.

We stayed in the Mustang Tipi. It was an amazing experience! The grounds are full of things to do ... we played ping pong and sat on the swing set to watch the sunset. Everyone (guests) were friendly and the vibe was laid back. The check in process is easy and you cannot beat the night sky! My kids are already asking to come back again and stay for longer. Absolutely recommend!

Celebrated my 40th birthday with a night in this super glam and very unique stay. Austin was super communicative on directions and hosted us so generously upon arrival. I loved the mix of camp/wilderness/nature with the glam of the dome/lighting/art. Super fun one!

2 nights at Bright Star Campground
My wife and I loved camping at Robins place. Brightstar Campground is an all around peaceful and beautiful place to stay. We stayed in a Tipi for two nights and the Mountain cabin another two nights because we liked the vibe so much. Both lodging options were more than big enough for my wife and I and very comfortable. The early spring nights get cold, but each bed is outfitted with a variety of blankets to stack up. We used our own extras some nights, but didn't need them the whole time. The amenities and accommodations were very accurate to the website and hipcamp description with a few pleasant surprises sprinkled in.
Robin was flexible and friendly, but not overbearing as a host. Check in and out was easy and hosts were consistently responsive via text or call. Kent, the new camp host was friendly and helpful through the stay. He has a great eye for unique art and a knack for outdoor hospitality!
Anyone who is used to camping and glamping would absolutely thrive here and if you're just looking to dip your toe in but not ready for packing and planning all your own gear and camping trip the tipi or cabin would be a great option!
