Spacious, level camping well-suited for travel trailers over 40 ft long.
We are a unique, community driven campground open from April - October. We have complimentary WiFi, drinking water, ice, hot showers, pit toilets, communal kitchen, and a shaded pavilion with picnic tables, art nook, ping pong, and more. The entire campground can be booked for retreats or events. There are two large covered pavilions. We customize reservations for small and large groups or longer stays. There are furnished tipis, camping cabins, tent/RV/van sites, and a Navajo Hogan (wooden yurt). Bright Star Campground: Originally established in 2012 as a church camp, it is now a place to connect, create, and rejuvenate in this spectacular high desert landscape. Bright Star Campground is located in the Great Sage Plain in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic views of the Four Corners region, and only 5 miles southeast of Cortez. We are a cannabis-friendly destination but ask that cannabis use stay at your campsite, cabin or tipi. There are many attractions nearby, such as Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World Mountain Biking. Raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent a SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir. We are located 45 minutes from Durango, 1.5 hours from Telluride, and about 2 hours from Moab (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks). The nearest airport is in Durango. The nearest large international airports are in Salt Lake City or Albuquerque.

This is a large pull-through Full Hookup RV Pad with 30 amp and 50 amp. It is behind the Airbnb house on the property. The RV is not included. The pad is for full-size RV's, 5th Wheels and Travel Trailers that are self-contained. Large Vans are okay if they have a toilet onboard. We also have electric-only sites for smaller RV types on the campground, near bathrooms. The StarPad has Wifi, Propane Grill, Picnic Table and Fire Pan. You may enjoy amenities from our campground that is on the back half of the same 20-acre property. The Star Pad has big views and wide-open spaces yet just 5 miles from downtown Cortez. It sits behind the "Starhouse" vacation rental home, yet most of the activity there is on the front porch facing East, so you still feel private as you will face West.  There is also a privacy wall fence between the house and RV Pad. Contact us at Bright Star Campground for larger group options combining multiple sites including tipis, tent and camping cabins, or the House. If you do not wish to be in ROWS of RVs and you want a scenic experience, this is for you!

VIEWS #2 ~ Campsite near Mesa Verde
We loved our site at Views #2. Great amenities, great view of the sunset and stars, and we met some great people. I would recommend this site to anyone who wants to explore Mesa Verde, Cortez, or any other surrounding town.

We loved the campground. Everything was clean and well taken care of. We stayed 2 nights while visiting Mesa Verde and Durango. The stars at night were AMAZING!

CHASING MOON Tipi ~Mesa Verde views
We had a great night at this location. The central kitchen / community area was really cool. The vault toilets were amazing. It's far enough out of town to feel remote but close enough to run into town if you need something. There were so many provided extras it was kind of impressive - ping pong table, billiards room, microwave, tables under an roof, grill, and more. I am already looking at when we can go back.

Awesome campsite with awesome hosts. Beautiful 360 view with lots of rabbits running about. Very clean and teepee was comfy. Super easy to get to and easy access to Mesa Verde. Loved the communal kitchen a d outdoor entertainment area.

Really great facilities — well organized and well managed. This site is great for car camping — with clean bathrooms, showers and communal kitchen. Easy to stop by quickly or stay for a while. Rec room style amenities for socializing + kids. This is not a totally remote property, so if being neighborhood adjacent will bother you just FYI. Proximity to town convenient tho + doesn’t diminish the views!

SUNSET: Campsite ~ near Mesa Verde
We ended up in this great place near Mesa Verde, Bright Star Campground. My son and I were on a wild camping trip and wanted to avoid the 4th of July frenzy, and looked for something different. Different is what we got. It felt like we entered a different dimension. The views were amazing, to the south the Mesa of Mesa Verde overlooking the valley. On the north side, the smoke plumes from the fire raging to the Northwest of us. Kent, the campground owner, was so nice; he had some friends over visiting for the 4th, and everybody else there seemed like part of one big family, although they had never met. There was a fully equipped kitchen available, showers, bathrooms, tipis, RV parking, and even a rooftop DJ station where one of his friends was going to play music for the 4th. It felt like a taste of what a commune would feel like. What a great vibe. Our spot felt private, and having access to the fully equipped kitchen made it extra special. Showers and toilets available and in great condition. I cannot say enough about the greatness of this place, and what stood out most was the vibe. It is peaceful and wholesome. We highly recommend this little paradise, and we will be back, for shuuuurrreeee. Thank you, Kent.

the bright star campground host is very nice. our campsite was changed since it rained hard and campsite #1 is very muddy. we are moved to sunset campsite without extra fee. Just Kent is very kind and helpful. i would rebook this camp site if needed on the future

Very cool spot. Kent was very responsive & the facilities were outstanding! The kitchen was an added bonus along with hot showers & VERY clean restrooms. The pavilion area was great to hang out &!meet other guests.

JUNIPER Camping Cabin by Mesa Verde
This place has a great location, stunning views and a fun, peaceful vibe. The hosts were very kind and understanding about a booking mistake I made. The communal kitchen is a great resource. Do pay attention to the description about heating and cooling which the hosts provide. Our cabin did get very hot during the day.

RAVEN Tipi ~ Mesa Verde Views
THIS is the glamping spot! It didn’t look like much when we drove up, but it held so much good energy, people, and fun! We stayed 2 nights in the Raven tipi. It was beyond expectations with a super comfy king bed, a power station for charging, flashlights, great decor & rugs, and a thoughtful piece of plastic for any areas that might get wet when it rains. It’s a real tipi so there is an hole at the top. We got down pours both days but things stayed dry since they provided what we needed in case of rain. The kitchen had everything you needed (plus) and was a great gathering spot to meet other explorers. They had the cleanest looking and smelling bathrooms I’ve ever seen in public and they are compost toilets! The coolest billiards room, ping pong table, fuse ball, painting supplies, games, and great people, especially the hosts Kent & Brandy. This is a ten out of five stars must-stay if you’re going to Mesa Verde or anywhere in the 4 corners area!

What a little oasis this was. We had a great time stopping here on our road trip across America. The kitchen and community area was amazing, they truly thought of everything. Wish we had more time there. Ground was a little rocky for our tent, but we had a great time. Sunset and stars were beautiful.

RAVEN Tipi ~ Mesa Verde Views
Stayed in Raven tipi two nights. Very clean, beds were comfortable. There was a power generator for charging phones, two fans, flashlights, a lamp, and a foot pump sink in the tipi. Showers and toilets were a little bit of a walk but I wouldn't want to sleep directly next to a pit toilet anyway. Kent was very responsive when we arrived and needed anything. The tipis do get warm as soon as the sun comes up (stayed in June), but also cool off quickly when the sun goes down. It was almost chilly sleeping at night but I prefer cooler temperatures for sleeping anyway. We all slept very well and enjoyed stargazing.

CHASING MOON Tipi ~Mesa Verde views
This is a magical place. We stayed in the Chasing Moon Tipi with two adults and a 10-year-old and it was more than perfect! Excellent amenities. Cool hosts, kid friendly, super clean. Warm showers. Artsy vibes. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need from an air fryer, to a stove, to a French press, to a kettle, to a toaster oven, to a microwave, to a coffee maker, filtered water and an ice machine for drinking. Honestly, if there's a complaint about this place, it's not the place that's the problem. We also met some super interesting and kind people. I would recommend this place to all of my friends.

VIEWS #1 ~ Campsite near Mesa Verde
Bright Star campground is an AMAZING place! It's situated close to Mesa Verde, has amazing views (sunsets/sunrises are incredible), and is clean and extremely well-kept and managed. The common area is a fantastic oasis with many fun things to explore, fun games, a wonderful art-making station, and a great large shaded area for the summer sun. If you're into meeting interesting people this is a both a great hub for interaction or solo relaxation. The kitchen is very well-stocked, clean, with plenty of room to accommodate several cooking campers without feeling cramped. Best of all are all the wonderful personal touches that Kent and his partner have put into the whole campground. I don't want to call out too much but there are many fun surprises here. The love, care, and creativity put in to Bright Star is more than evident. Kent was a responsive, kind, knowledgeable host, and fun to talk with. I felt fully restored and creatively inspired after my stay at Bright Star—its magic worked wonders for me!
