Spacious, level camping well-suited for travel trailers over 40 ft long.
We are a unique, community driven campground open from April - October. We have complimentary WiFi, drinking water, ice, hot showers, pit toilets, communal kitchen, and a shaded pavilion with picnic tables, art nook, ping pong, and more. The entire campground can be booked for retreats or events. There are two large covered pavilions. We customize reservations for small and large groups or longer stays. There are furnished tipis, camping cabins, tent/RV/van sites, and a Navajo Hogan (wooden yurt). Bright Star Campground: Originally established in 2012 as a church camp, it is now a place to connect, create, and rejuvenate in this spectacular high desert landscape. Bright Star Campground is located in the Great Sage Plain in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic views of the Four Corners region, and only 5 miles southeast of Cortez. We are a cannabis-friendly destination but ask that cannabis use stay at your campsite, cabin or tipi. There are many attractions nearby, such as Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World Mountain Biking. Raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent a SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir. We are located 45 minutes from Durango, 1.5 hours from Telluride, and about 2 hours from Moab (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks). The nearest airport is in Durango. The nearest large international airports are in Salt Lake City or Albuquerque.

This is a large pull-through Full Hookup RV Pad with 30 amp and 50 amp. It is behind the Airbnb house on the property. The RV is not included. The pad is for full-size RV's, 5th Wheels and Travel Trailers that are self-contained. Large Vans are okay if they have a toilet onboard. We also have electric-only sites for smaller RV types on the campground, near bathrooms. The StarPad has Wifi, Propane Grill, Picnic Table and Fire Pan. You may enjoy amenities from our campground that is on the back half of the same 20-acre property. The Star Pad has big views and wide-open spaces yet just 5 miles from downtown Cortez. It sits behind the "Starhouse" vacation rental home, yet most of the activity there is on the front porch facing East, so you still feel private as you will face West.  There is also a privacy wall fence between the house and RV Pad. Contact us at Bright Star Campground for larger group options combining multiple sites including tipis, tent and camping cabins, or the House. If you do not wish to be in ROWS of RVs and you want a scenic experience, this is for you!

Beautiful area! We got there after dark, so it was very nice to get to look around in the morning. We were next to a field with cows. Pretty sure we heard coyotes during the night. So many birds to watch, we even saw a hummingbird. The showers were clean and private, plus they had hot water. Big fan, would recommend!

SUNRISE: Small RV CAMPSITE 30amp
Great place to stop for a quick overnight or for several days. Is convenient to town amenities and don’t let the lack of hookups scare you, the dump station is less than 10 minutes away and it’s free. The staff is super helpful and the scenery is epic! I wish there were more places like this out there.

Great site, beautiful views with a well stocked kitchen. Nice sunset and very close to Mesa Verde (which is awesome). Check out Pueblo Seed and Food Company while you’re in Cortez as well!

The view from the campground was astonishing, particularly at sunset. The hosts were very helpful and the shower/restroom/kitchen all very comfortable. It was a very pleasant and unforgettable experience.

SUNSET: Campsite ~ near Mesa Verde
I have visited many HipCamp sites across the U.S. and this one is towards the top. Gorgeous surroundings, peaceful, variety of overnight choices, clean showers and bathrooms, easy access to Cortez and the roadways but far enough away for the quiet, great kitchen area and a common area filled with lounging options and games - foosball! The swing set is fun too :) Friendly and caring hosts!

Loved it! A high open plain ringed with mountains: Mesa Verde and Ute close, Telluride, San Juans and Bears Ears on the horizon. Immaculately clean and generous kitchen and dining/hanging out areas. The tent/RV sites are very basic but the rest makes up. Great hosts, dark sky. Didn’t see inside the cabins but the hogan was lovely.

It is a remote space and you feel so small being surrounded by the mountains. Love this open, vast area that holds a space for people to be in nature safely. The kitchen is well stocked with goodies. Everything is a quick stroll away from the teepee. The bathroom has adorable art and quotes on the wall to brighten the space up. Our teepee was warm, spacious and cozy! It rained over night and listening to the rain hit the teepee was calming. Wish we were here for two nights, but we had a quick over night stay. Love this spot and would totally come back.

The place is very nice and clean overall. The kids loved the ping pong table, musical instruments and rock painting supplies. I really enjoyed the accomodations in the kitchen and the grill to make all of our meals. There was a community fridge, you could label all your food. There were dishes and cooking utensils, hot plates, toaster oven and microwave. There was also an ice maker machine. And everything was so clean! The only main issue: It is important to let people know if you rent a tipi and it rains, you will get wet. It rained for a few hours our 1st night, and we had paid extra for a tipi not knowing this, and we were wet and cold all night. I know you cannot predict the weather, as the owner stated, but it would be nice to understand that a tipi is open at the very top, so you have been warned in advance. Fortunately, one of the hosts was so nice and understanding and went above and beyond to ensure that our next night's stay in a cabin was more comfortable. It was cold, but not being wet was very pleasant. The beds in the tipi and the cabin were very comfortable as well as the pillows.

JUNIPER Camping Cabin by Mesa Verde
This place is absolutely stunning! I have never seen so many stars before and the campsites are spaced out far enough it felt liek a private retreat. They have restrooms, showers, and a community kitchen with every cooking utensil you may need. The restrooms were so clean and the camp manager was so kind!

I car camped here and had a super sweet one-night stay where all my needs were met. The land is beautiful, gorgeous sunset and sunrise, and it was sweet to have communal space like the kitchen, showers, bathrooms, and more. The camp hosts were very sweet and welcoming! I would definitely camp here again and would recommend it.

RAVEN Tipi ~ Mesa Verde Views
We enjoyed our stay. The Raven tipi was comfortable and spacious for three of us + gear. And to have the kitchen to use was fantastic! And the freezer & ice maker made our water situation for desert hiking so easy. Bathrooms were super clean. Shower building was good too. Rustic, and walled in, but open to the air. Chatting with folks from all parts of the US was a nice bonus too. And our second morning there, we were greeted by a raven perched on top of the tipi. Highly recommend. And if you walk the trails to the bathrooms at night using a headlamp, see if you can spot the sparkles on the ground.

I loved camping on Kent’s land! Seeing the word and dedication that has been put into this property over the years by different owners. Kent does a great job of helping campers feel welcome. The pavilion and the kitchen are awesome!!! We loved meeting Kent’s puppy Rowdy!

Hospitality was top notch. If you’re not used to camping in a community space it can feel a bit different. Lots to do there, and Telluride is about an hour and a half away and so are the bridal veil falls. If you plan on going to Mesa Verde make sure to book your in advance because some of the areas are only accessible through tours.

MUSTANG Tipi ~ Mesa Verde views
We chose this site as a spot in between Great Sand Dunes and our next stop. It was a neat experience, pulling into the campsite with the sun setting -the sky was a vibrantly beautiful backdrop for the tipis. The tipi was spacious enough for our young family of 6, 2 adults in the bed, 2 bigger kids on the foldout futon and two littles on camping mats in the floor. Waking up to a sky lit up inside of a tipi was majestic! The camp kitchen, showers and bathrooms were useful. Kitchen was stocked for use, showers were creative and clean. Bathroom, while still a pit toilet, was painted and clean and well appointed. Put us very close to our next stop, Mesa Verde Natl park. Definitely bring your family here if you’re out this way, really memorable night for us, sleeping in a tipi!

The campground has amenities that most campgrounds do not have, such as a communal kitchen and ICE 👍 Also, really appreciated the carport to provide some shade during a hot summer visit. The campground itself was well laid out and quiet, even after families arrived, for 2 middle-aged folks. There was some minor issue with the hot water in the women's shower but otherwise the bathrooms were clean, well stocked, and centrally located. We will definitely be back (when there isn't a full moon) to watch the meteor showers, Kent!

I've stayed at this campground through 3 owners across the past 5+ years! I absolutely love staying here; especially with the new camp hosts who are incredibly groovy and kind. This campground is a great price and has a community kitchen, hot showers, games, a rock painting station, charging bank for phones, a hammock to read in, incredible stargazing, serenading sunsets, and a lot of cool stuff to explore within a short drive. I love this place and highly recommend it. I've stayed in the chapel, a tent site, and the cabins and I've had a wonderful stay in all of them. Thank you for having me! I'll definitely be back!

We had an amazing stay at this campsite! My husband, our daughter, dog, and I stayed in a cozy teepee that made the experience extra special. The amenities were excellent, and having access to the kitchen made meals so easy. Our daughter absolutely loved the playground, and we all enjoyed the incredible views of the stars at night. The location is perfect—just a short drive to Mesa Verde. Highly recommend this spot for families and anyone looking for a unique and safe stay!

Best Hipcamp in Colorado
SKY: Bunk Cabin ~ near Mesa Verde
An absolutely beautiful place to stop and rest! I roadtrip for running races and have always made it a point to stop here dating back to 2020. A unique and comfortable experience; this camp offer scenic sunsets, stargazing, a community kitchen, showers, games, a charging station, hammock to read in, rocks to paint, and the most kind camp hosts. I will always stay here and I highly recommend it.
