The homestead was built in 1911 and was one of the original postal pickups in the area. The ranch is located between Mesa Verde National Park, Hovenweep National Monument and backs up to Canyon of the Ancients National Monument. Our family has lived in McElmo Canyon for over 40 years and the campground has hosted camping and outdoor educational groups since 1965. We are a family run ranch with an operating hay farm, horseback riding business, and carriage shop.

Conestoga Wagon
What an incredible experience this hipcamp was! Jenny and family offered so much more than was offered on hipcamp, and we were just so impressed! We rode horses to ancient kivas and was able to see and experience something that not many people get to do. Would 100% book again

So awesome!!!
This place rocks!!! Booked spur of the moment as the Hovenweep, UT campground was full (Eclipse traffic). The hosts are very kind and generous. Our site was perfect for our truck bed camper.
Hosts put on a special eclipse chuckwagon breakfast, led us to a special viewing area with their family. Saw the eclipse perfectly.
There’s more!! The communal fire pit was a blast that evening with a special singer songwriter with other campers and hosts.
Was so much fun. Next visit we will try to go on a host led horseback ride.

We loved this quiet camping location. The amenities (outdoor kitchen, ramada, picnic tables, and fire pit .... also the shower!) were much appreciated. The views are stunning and the proximity to the trailheads for the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument can't be beat. Rodney and his family were gracious and welcoming. Our biggest error was not taking one of their horseback tours of the Monument. Even though we hiked several days in the Monument, a horseback tour with a knowledgeable guide would have been spectacular.

The Rancher Wagon
Great glamping setup *right* next to Canyon of the Ancients National Monument. The rancher wagon was comfortable and hosts were super helpful, showing us around everything - kitchen area, bathroom w/ toilet and hot shower, walking paths around the property. We loved hiking up onto the slick rock behind the camping area and stargazing - awesome dark sky area!

The Rancher Wagon
Our time at the wagon was a dream come true. I felt like a pioneer (with a comfortable bed and a electricity)!! Thank you for your graciousness and for sharing the magic of your ranch with us.
