Earn this patch by being the first to spend a night outside at a new Hipcamp.

This property on a dead-end road offers beautiful views of the West Elk Mountains, the Adobes beyond the valley, and stunning stars, sunrises, and sunsets above. With camping options ranging from parking or tent camping to staying in a hunting tent, and a convenient location just three miles up the hill from Hotchkiss, it’s an ideal fit for groups with varying comfort needs. There are separate sites that are private but also convenient for groups of up to 20 people, with private spots for sleeping and relaxing, plus a communal “cookhouse” for gathering. The bathroom amenities include two shower spots for bucket baths, a portapotty and a composting latrine.

RV on the Hill

The renovated RV includes a double mattress and sitting area inside and a large deck. Unfortunately we do not have water hooked up to it, so bathroom access is the shared portapotty. Although it is not far from the communal cookhouse, its higher spot on the hill affords it more privacy.

Tea Tent and Area

The Tea Tent sleeps up to eight people, but we have made it for four with two twin mattresses and two tri-fold 4" mattresses (which also serve as chairs). There is also a sleeping platform with a mosquito net very near the tent that fits a twin mattress, another similar platform on the far end of the site (without a mosquito net) a large shelter (sideless tent) behind it, and room for other tents in the flat area around it. The site includes the Tea Tent as well as the large flat area covered in wood chips around it, so it would be ideal for a larger group and is especially ideal as it is just a few steps up from the communal cookhouse.

The Shack

Cabin · Sleeps 2

The Shack has a twin bed with mosquito net inside and a futon with mosquito net on the deck. There is also a mini sleeping platform near the deck where you can put a sleeping pad and gaze at the stars. Surrounded by gardens, the shack has a cozy feeling. Although The Shack is in the category of cabins, please note that it is much more rustic than many cabins and the inside space is just large enough for the bed and a small desk. The communal cookhouse and portapotty are not far away, but since the deck is on the north side (away from view), The Shack is somewhat more private.
