RV camping near San Simeon

·

Known for the ornate Hearst Castle (its star attraction), San Simeon gets plenty of campers throughout the year, several of whom like to arrive by RV or campervan. This community makes a great jumping-off point for exploring Big Sur to the north or inland destinations such as Lake Nacimiento. Loads of RV camping options with bathrooms, showers, hookups, and dump stations are set in and around San Simeon, including at Hearst San Simeon State Park's San Simeon Creek and Washburn Campgrounds. More RV campsites can be found about 45 minutes' drive down the coast at Morro Bay Campground in Morro Bay State Park and in the Morro Strand State Beach Campground. These state park campgrounds tend to book up fast and can be noisy due to the sheer numbers they accommodate, so if you're willing to drive a bit inland, you'll be rewarded with quieter private Hipcamps to choose from, particularly around Paso Robles.

Settled by Thomas James Lynch in the mid to late 1800's, the Lynch Ranch originally ran sheep along Tierra Redonda Mountain. It transitioned into a cattle ranch in the early 1900's when Archie Smith married into the Lynch family.  The Smith family continues to raise cattle on the ranch and enjoys all that the Smith Ranch has to offer. Learn more about this land:Spend a night on a working cattle ranch with history dating back to the late 1800's.
