Cow Camp
We've absolutely fallen in love with Cow Camp! This was our eighth visit, and it just keeps getting better. The property is incredibly vast, peaceful, and breathtakingly beautiful. We love how completely private it is. It's the perfect place to relax, unwind, and soak in nature.
One of the biggest bonuses is that it's just a short drive to Lake Nacimiento, which we love spending time at. The excellent cell service is another huge plus, giving you the best of both worlds: a peaceful escape without being disconnected if you don't want to be.
We can't recommend Cow Camp highly enough. It's become one of our favorite places, and we'll definitely be back again and again!

Beautiful and private spot! If you're wanting to to get away from it all and be in nature, this is the place. Lots of beautiful shade trees which we were thankful to have. The 4 humans and 3 dogs all loved this spot. If you do want to explore, its about 5 to 10 minutes from 2 lakes and about 5 minutes to a cute little bar/grill called Bee Rock. We wil definitely be back!

Cow Camp
This was an amazing secluded spot surrounded only by nature. My husband and I and our dog so enjoyed unwinding here for 2 nights. The peace and quiet, the views of the expansive ranch and the Santa Lucia range with fog draping over it, the sunsets, the stars and full moon-wow. Thank you for making a piece of your beautiful home available for us to visit!

This was such a gorgeous ranch and I loved the privacy and safety offered. The Cow Camp was perfect and we got to relax and watch the cows graze during breakfast and dinner. My dogs were tethered by a 50ft leash and anchored to the ground, my dogs absolutely loved the open space and ability to explore safely also. Feeding the horses was a great experience also I loved talking to the family about their animals, land, and hobbies.

Smith Ranch Deer Campground offers a picturesque landscape with a sprawling meadow and grazing cows, creating a truly serene ambiance. Amidst all this beauty, the most remarkable aspect was the exceptional kindness of the host. They warmly welcomed us and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. We are truly grateful for their thoughtfulness.
However, if there is one regret, it would be not having the opportunity to encounter deer at the campground. :-) we will definitely revisit this beautiful campground multiple times.

Like when you find the perfect fishing hole you don’t really want to tell others about it but Deer Camp at the Smith Ranch was just too awesome not to share our feedback. Deer Camp was everything we could have asked for: easy access, close proximity to the lake, peaceful setting and the very best hosts. We joined the Smith’s one morning for horse feeding and spent the rest of our time either enjoying the scenery or at the lake. Our 2 y/o was at home in the well maintained camp and loved looking at the resident cows and playing in the dirt. We have a 30’ travel trailer and F150 so we aren’t “small” but the ranch roads were very manageable if you take your time and the campsite was flat (only needed 1 set of leveling blocks). If you can dry camp and want to get away from the crowds we highly suggest you spend time at the Smith Ranch!

This is an amazing place to stay! You have the whole area to yourself so you truly feel one with nature.
There is more than enough space to accommodate a large family. Also, it truly is a cow camp. Our first night the cows came down and laid 5-10 feet away from us for the night. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you!

My wife and I have been hi-camping for a while now, but this was the first perfect experience we've had. The directions were easy, the site was clean and well kept, and the views were spectacular. Other than a minor amount of road noise, the whole location felt completely secluded, with the exception of a few cows that came by to check us out.
It was just what we needed to recharge our batteries. Looking forward to the next time we come out!

What a beautiful place. The rolling hills with the mountains in the background. Cows grazing, many Hawks and even a Bald Eagle soaring above. Star gazing at night was breathtaking!

We stayed a few nights at the Deer Camp, which was so quiet and relaxing. Our dogs got to roam around our camp area chasing the occasional ground squirrel and watch the resident cows that came by in the morning to munch on the dry grass. We saw a Bald Eagle hunting around our camp along with Falcon and buzzards! A really nice place to unwind, read your favorite book and nap. Fort Hunter Liggett is nearby so you may see and hear some jets doing their practice moves in the sky. Fun to watch them!

Remote and private. Would definitely stay here again. We arrived after dark and missed the turn to deer camp. The directions were very clear however we missed the sign. The campsite was great.

Cow Camp is simply amazing. I couldn't be more impressed with the setting and thoughtful touches. We have a 33ft travel trailer, and found everything to be so easy to navigate.
