Rural Southern Monterey County hilltop with 360° views of the surrounding valley. To the west is an unobstructed view of the Los Padres National forest, sunsets over the coast ridge from Junipero Serra peak to the north and Rocky Butte to the south. To the east is Williams Hill BLM area, with clear views of the sunrise. To the southeast is Lake San Antonio. Nacimiento Lake is a beautiful 45 minute drive to the south. Although the dirt access road can be a little dusty and bumpy for a sports car, in the 35 years I've been here it has always been accessible for a 2 wheel drive vehicle. The property is at the end of the road. No traffic, no noise, only views of the surrounding area. If you are interested in night skies, the milky way is a constant. After winter rains, everything is green and wild flowers are abundant. Stay and enjoy the vistas or travel relatively short distances for hiking in the Los Padres forest, drive CA HWY 1, visit Paso Robles wineries, boat or fish at Lake San Antonio or Lake Nacimiento. Nearby Williams Hill BLM area for hunting, shooting or ATV riding. For hunters and fisherman, Ft Hunter Liggett is to the immediate west. Occasional weekend's be entertained by military training and occasional aircraft, helicopters and planes. It is so quiet that you can hear vehicles passing several miles away on Jolon Rd in the valley below. Visitors travel to Morro bay, Avila beach to the south or Big Sur and Monterey Bay to the north. Motorcycle enthusiasts can enjoy 100's of miles of uncrowded country roads. Host is an avid motorcyclist and will provide enough helpful guidance for all levels of riding. Corbin saddle in Hollister is a great destination for lunch and a custom made seat by appointment. Getaway to the central coast of California and leave the city behind. San Francisco is a bit over 2 hours to the north and LA about 4 hours to the south. Owner has intimate knowledge of way to many destinations.

They are about 300 feet apart and not easily visible from each other. Property is fully fenced; both sites are next to an open field under the oaks with vineyard, olive orchard and mountain views. This property is 30 miles from Paso Robles and almost perfectly centered between Missions San Antonio and San Miguel. Lakes San Antonio and Nacimiento are close by. Coastal towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay are about an hour scenic drive, passing many wineries along the way. There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. Site two will accommodate ten people and two vehicles. For larger groups we ask that that you book both sites. We have hosted many family reunions and the feedback has been 100% positive. These rustic homes were built in the 1930s and retain many original details, including charming chippy paint on the original-pane windows. We are also on a well that is rich in minerals, so expect rust-marked porcelain tubs and a distinct mineral taste in the drinking water.
We are a working cattle ranch. When the cows are grazing in the lower pastures, you'll hear and see authentic ranch life in action. There may also be friendly ranch cats hard at work keeping the mouse population in check, along with local wildlife that occasionally meanders through on its way to the nearby watering hole.
Guest Access
Guests are welcome to enjoy the yards around their cabins and the shared covered outdoor kitchen at any time.
Please do not enter any of the white outbuildings or the areas behind them.
With permission, guests may access the ranch trails outside of the PG&E camp. A signed liability waiver is required, and guests must text us to check in and out.

We welcome well-behaved, well-socialized, vaccinated pets. Please note that this is a pet-friendly property with other animals on-site, so your pets must be friendly and kept on a leash at all times. Pets may not be left unattended in the house while you are away from the compound area.

Each campsite features a picnic table and fire ring, with convenient water faucets just a short walk away. The campground is equipped with two modern bathhouses, providing essential amenities for a comfortable stay. Guests can enjoy the privacy of their sites while being centrally located near a variety of attractions, including general stores, restaurants, cafes, gift shops, delis, taverns, and the local post office within the vibrant Big Sur community.
Please note that Ventana Campground is exclusively for tent camping. We are unable to accommodate RVs, motor homes, travel trailers, pop-up tent trailers, or any type of camper van or truck with roof tents. Guests arriving with these vehicles will not be permitted entry to the campground. My dog and I truly enjoyed spending time on Veronica's land. She's very friendly, the posted pictures do it justice, there was enough shade and plenty of open expanse for the stargazing I was seeking (some clouds rolled in on the second day, but that was lovely too), and the wild bunnies were absolutely enthralling for my dog. He definitely wants to come back and visit the bunnies!
It was my first solo camping trip, and Veronica did a great job of chatting me up for a bit at the beginning and putting me more at ease. I felt like I was getting away and camping on my own but like I wasn't completely isolated, which was good for me.
Looking forward to coming back someday.

We've absolutely fallen in love with Cow Camp! This was our eighth visit, and it just keeps getting better. The property is incredibly vast, peaceful, and breathtakingly beautiful. We love how completely private it is. It's the perfect place to relax, unwind, and soak in nature.
One of the biggest bonuses is that it's just a short drive to Lake Nacimiento, which we love spending time at. The excellent cell service is another huge plus, giving you the best of both worlds: a peaceful escape without being disconnected if you don't want to be.
We can't recommend Cow Camp highly enough. It's become one of our favorite places, and we'll definitely be back again and again!

We tried a glamping tent first, which was great. We came back and stayed in a walk-in tent site what was amazing! Highly recommended! We will be back again.
Sites are private, bathrooms are cleaned regularly, showers are hot. There is a pool and the view is amazing! Duraflame campfires allowed, but no wood.

This was a classic Big Sur camping experience: rustic, peaceful, redwoods, beautiful stream, with the ocean only a short walk away. You could see Highway 1 in the distance, but any traffic noise was completely drowned out by the sound of the stream and the chorus frogs at night. It felt secluded and immersed in nature while still being easy to access.

Gene’s property is so incredible! We loved dipping in the creek and the short walk to the beach which seemed really private, and the communal kitchen and the shower area really stood out to us. The cabana felt private and tucked away which I really enjoyed, there were several other groups around during our stay but it never felt crowded and we had no problems using the listed amenities. I thought I’d be comfortable using the composting toilets but now I know for the future it’s not something that is very easy for me, we ended up visiting the bathroom on the beach a lot so I’m glad that’s an option. The cabana isn’t screened in so we had a lot of insect visitors, definitely something to note if you’re not comfortable with spiders and bugs! The bed was pretty comfortable and there’s a hammock right next to the cabana that was nice to lay in. I was really happy with our stay overall, Gene and his family we’re so sweet and helpful if you have any questions, but generally left us alone and we only saw them a few times during our stay. I’d love to come back another time! It was really romantic, I’d try tent camping next time with a larger group.

Roberta’s camping land is absolutely wonderful! Our kids had the absolute best time, and the highlight of the trip was definitely getting to hang out with and feed the adorable baby goats.
The property offers plenty of space, and even with other campers nearby, it still felt wonderfully secluded and peaceful. Our evenings were perfect, spent roasting marshmallows around the fire pit and enjoying the quiet night. As a bonus, they have chickens and friendly ranch dogs on site, which really made us feel safe and secure all night long.
Bottom line: If you have small kids or are looking for a fantastic family-friendly camping experience, we cannot recommend this place enough! We will definitely be back.

Gene’s vision and hard work have created an incredible place to visit. You can tell how much care has gone into every detail, and the property is truly impressive. I camped here with my dog and my two boys, and we had a fantastic time. It was peaceful, beautiful, and exactly what we were hoping for. We will definitely be back many more times.

Oh wow! This trip was our first camping trip and I am glad we chose Gene's place. It has everything you need: the place is beautiful, you have kitchen, romantic bathroom and village style restroom. Lovely spot to camp! The host was very welcoming and the campsite was great - unbelievable views, and even though it’s “walk-in” the site was just a really small set of stairs away from the car. I was bummed at first that wood fires aren’t allowed, but they sell duraflame logs at the office and that worked great for a really nice evening fire! Excited to come back soon :)

About
Esalen Hot Springs is perched along Big Sur's world-famous coastline, over 100 ft above the waves that crash onto the giant boulders below. While the world-class spa is the main reason some visit Esalen, the opportunities to learn are what make guests return. At its heart Esalen is a non-profit holistic educational center that offers many different courses where you can train your mind and body. Take a program to become a certified massage practitioner or join one of the many eye opening workshops offered on-site and online.
When to go
The best time to visit Esalen Hot Springs is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the beauty of the landscape is at its peak. Summer offers longer days, ideal for exploring, though it can be busier. Winter might bring closures due to weather, so it's less ideal for a visit.
Know before you go
- Check the latest road conditions for Highway 1 before traveling, as closures can affect access.
- Esalen Hot Springs is a non-smoking community, and the use of tobacco and cannabis is prohibited.
