Amazing sunrises and sunsets. Sheer cliffs attest to area being underwater, long ago. Galaxies overhead at night are awesome and free from light pollution. Thus, great stargazing! Cattle and forage hay ranch, but cattle could be anywhere on the property. Absolutely no open fires. We are part of an Agricultural Conservancy. We do offer ranch tours at various times of the year. You may request a tour for an additional charge, when available. You'll have a 360 degree view overlooking the Santa Lucia Mountain Range as far as you can see to the West and the Sierra Nevada Range, as far as you can see to the East. We are conveniently located about 15 minutes off Hwy 101, to the North of San Miguel, and offer a private place to relax and rest overnight on your way to or from your other destinations. It is quiet! Occasionally, coyotes howl at night or our two handsome Angus bulls bellow, or a wild boar family grunts as they head from one location to another, usually with an entourage of piglets... just passing through. They are all part of the local country in California and add to the beauty, if you're fortunate enough to hear them from afar. The boar migrate and may not be around for weeks, as they have traveled elsewhere. You may miss all night sounds except the breeze, as most nights are completely silent. It's a rejuvenating experience! Please ask if interested in local day trips or points of interest, and we will try to accommodate you. We will suggest local activities. Lakes Nacimiento, San Antonio and Santa Margarita are an easy distance. All three are quite different from one another. Wine and Beer get a lot of press and rightly so, but there are other relaxing and inspiring activities for all, available when you are here! Each community has a city or town park, so you can enjoy relaxing or playing with your children on hot days, under tall, well-established trees. Everyone needs time to exercise, especially children! Camp Roberts, just North of Paso Robles, has two military museums to visit and the West Garrison is just over the 101 to the West of us! Out near the Paso Robles Airport there is the Warbird Museum, a must for military aircraft and history buffs. iginal full-size restored aircraft with amazing stories behind each one. numbers of cars Breweries, numerous wineries, and distilleries abound! Beautiful country roads and Parkfield, the earthquake capital of the world, are about a 40 min. drive. Not far away... is the magnificent Pacific Ocean! Airstrip Stargazer Field has room for 1-7 campers, allowing ample space between campers. All sites are listed separately, while on the same 2300 ft. long Airstrip Stargazer site. Should you wish to have this area for a group of friends camping together, please send a request, as we can usually accommodate you! Our most common camper is a single vehicle, with trailer, camper or a tent. This allows for an unencumbered view of the night sky and the feeling of really being away from it all. Groups can certainly enjoy the open sky experience, too, as you'll be under the sky in a wide-open space! Each of the 7 sites may host up to 5 guests. Just to clarify, if all 7 sites are taken by a group, a maximum of 35 people would be camping. Of course, we will greet each individual camper and guide them to the Airstrip sites.

This field is set-up with a graded dirt Airstrip where a private plane might land. Any camper which would camp on it can easily drive South to North and turn around and head back out Southward, and out to the county road. It is level, of course. If you want to tent and use spikes, you must tent OFF the Airstrip, as stakes would ruin the graded surface of the dirt Airstrip.

All Airstrip Stargazer sites are on the level dirt Airstrip, suitable for any vehicle to drive on. The only difference among all sites is the actual location along the strip. There are actually no marked locations. The Airstrip has a North/South orientation, and driving on is at the South end, headed Northward. The field is pretty flat as the photos indicate. If someone were to want to tent, and put spikes into the ground, it must be staked off the Airstrip so as to not ruin the graded Airstrip. Thank you.

Our Airstrip Stargazer field can accommodate up to 7 campers, with ample room between each. Usually we only have one camper at a time which allows for an unencumbered view of the night sky, and a very peaceful camping experience. Stargazing sites for 1-7 campers ... If you would like to come as a small group of camping friends, and have the Airstrip Stargazer field for yourselves, we will try to accommodate you. Usually, our guests have the location to themselves anyway, but we can't guarantee you,ll be the only campers, unless you make prior arrangements. Everyone must make their individual reservation through Hipcamp. Thank you! These sites are on flat terrain, with a wide open view up and down Indian Valley. If you pitch a tent, you must do so off the Airstrip if you are putting stakes in the ground. Please be aware of the squirrel holes, as this is the country. Also, we do have wildlife here! We have all that country has... coyotes usually at night, perhaps a snake making it's way at night, seldom mountain lions or bobcats. We are not trying to scare you! We just want you to be aware of you surrounds, as we are in the country, as I mentioned, and not in a walled in area. You are in a beautiful, wide-open valley free of smog, and noises of civilization and seldom will see these animals anyway!

WATER TANK OVERLOOK

Complete privacy overlooking the large Airport field and Indian Valley, below. Cattle roam at various times and coyotes howl, at night. Occasional sightings of coyotes in the daytime. This area is up near our cement domestic water tank, in among the Oaks and a large Juniper tree. Lovely vista! You many tent, too! There is a second spot in the same area to pull-in an additional camping vehicle. perfect for two families or groups of friends with a camper van, truck camper or a tent..

If you're thinking about booking this spot- do it. I stayed on this massive plot of land that felt like a peaceful world of its own. The moment I arrived, I could feel the quiet, open beauty wrap around me. I came during the peak of the meteor shower and let me tell you: zero regrets. The night sky was wide and clear, completely unobstructed, and I laid back just watching streak after streak of light dash across the stars. Pure magic. Pro tip: make sure you arrive bright and early so you can soak up the sun across this stunning land. The morning light rolls in golden and soft, lighting up the open fields and trees in the distance. I brought coffee and just sat outside watching it all happen- total serenity. There's a special energy to this place. It's peaceful, grounding, and feels like the kind of land that remembers stories. Bring a blanket, a good playlist, and give yourself time to really settle in. Whether you're there for the stars, the sunrise, or just the soul rest, this place delivers. Will absolutely be back!!! Airstrip Stargazer - Site 6
We were greeted at night upon our arrival and shown to our campsite. It was nice at night to hear the coyotes in the distance, and see the band of the Milky Way in the sky. The stars are endless and it's nice and quiet. Campsite we chose is literally an old airstrip. It's nice and flat for trailers. This site had no shade, and access into the ranch is determined by your vehicle/ trailer. With the trailer, it required us to drive in on some utility roads. No biggie! Gee Gee was a great host and has a beautiful ranch. It's a 15 minute drive from Paso Robles. I recommend this location for it peace and quiet and it's sense of remoteness, despite being only 15 minutes from town.

We had a great time at this site! Gee Gee was amazing and her son even gave us a tour of the entire property. Beautiful sunset. Saw the wild boars and heard the coyotes at night. Directions were perfect. We enjoyed this stay so much! 10/10 would recommend.

Vast, open space on airstrip. Phenomenal expansive view is the sky. Nice and remote. Host gives great instructions for arrival. Ground is not great for tents that require pegs. Even in a moist season, the ground was too hard to use tent pegs. We ended up needing to sleep in the car because our tent requires pegs. Also very windy given position in a valley, but very beautiful landscape.

What a place! Quiet and peaceful. Gee Gee was a wonderful hostess! I was able to clearly see the Milky Way in the night sky and saw many shooting stars. I also really enjoyed hearing the coyotes sing their songs. It is a unique opportunity to get a glimpse of the California of long ago.

Airstrip Stargazer - Site 6
Gee Gee's airstrip is a very quiet, remote-feeling spot, with a great view of the Milky Way! It felt like an adventure getting there, as we ended up on a Navy base, and arrived in the pitch dark. Gee Gee was extremely helpful and kind, guiding and reassuring us on our way to her airstrip, as we arrived quite late at night. Our GPS directions totally threw us off, and she guided us back onto the freeway and to her place, waiting for us at the gate. She also was quick to respond to our need for a jumpstart the next morning. A couple of things to note: We were tent camping, and could not get our stakes into the packed, dry ground of the airstrip. Also, there were some very large flying beetles around the tent. This is dry camping, quiet, and remote-feeling, though not that far a drive from town. Best to use Gee Gee's directions and not GPS coordinates.

It was very peaceful! Our gps tried sending us through back roads so make sure you get off the highway correctly to use the arrival instructions. Gee Gee was waiting for us and helped us get settled. It was very peaceful and enjoyable.

Airstrip Field - Stargazing!
Beautiful valley, grassland in all directions. The night sky was dark so all the stars were bright. There were no other campers the night we stayed, very quiet and peaceful.

What a great spot this was. Beautiful rolling hills, easy to find and Gee Gee was a real pleasure to speak with. Also close to Paso and wineries! We will certainly be back and tell our friends.

Airstrip Field - Stargazing!
Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful. Exactly what we needed. It's off the beaten track, and worth it. Glenna is fantastic. She met us as we came in the gate, and led us in her car "follow me" style through another gate and out to the airstrip -- pretty straightforward. We picked a spot off to the side of the airstrip. (The airstrip is not in current use, but I like to keep these things clear in case someone needs it.) Do watch for the opening direction of the gates -- they are automatic and you don't want to pull too close to the ones that open toward you. We took a walk along the base of the hills as the sun set. So many stars. We set up our telescope; good seeing with little to no light pollution. Almost totally silent. The only sound at night was a few coyotes off in the distance. The kids and I loved that part. We even saw a Roadrunner on the way back out to the highway the next day. The ground is flat and level, with no dust in the fall. There are cattle on the property but the "landmines" are few and old enough that we didn't even try to avoid them, though if the kids were still young I'd probably have kept them on a short leash. As you are leaving the next day, remember to watch those gates; again automatic and will let you out without any fuss. All in all, I highly recommend Glenna's place -- we will stay here again.
