Peaceful and private RV camping under the oaks with picnic table, fire pit and Adirondack chairs. We currently have two sites on our property. They are about 300 feet apart and not easily visible from each other. Property is fully fenced; both sites are next to an open field under the oaks with vineyard, olive orchard and mountain views. This property is 30 miles from Paso Robles and almost perfectly centered between Missions San Antonio and San Miguel. Lakes San Antonio and Nacimiento are close by. Coastal towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay are about an hour scenic drive, passing many wineries along the way. There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. Site two will accommodate ten people and two vehicles. For larger groups we ask that that you book both sites. We have hosted many family reunions and the feedback has been 100% positive. Five minutes from the beach, Elkhorn Ranch is home to goats, sheep, wild chickens followed by their baby chicks, and a couple of cows, dogs, and sheep.

Anybody who enjoys small farm life and activity will find this place enchanting. Norris and Roberta are incredible hosts and inclusive to any guests that want to participate in farm life.
Close to restaurants and the cute harbor town of Moss Landing, 30 minutes from Carmel and Santa Cruz, Elkhorn Ranch can be a place to relax or a gateway to explore Big Sur and all the amazing hidden gems of the Central California Coast.

Grey Oaks' Rustic Campsites, are a boutique camping experience with real old-timey style. We have 2 RV/tent campsites and currently 2 tent-only sites for hipcamp use.
Grey Oaks is located on 20 acres of land, with multiple interesting and cool landscape features, hot water shower, and animals up by the house (1/4 mile from the campsites) that you can interact with during your stay here. ( 2 pasture horses, 1 Donkey, 2 friendly dogs, and 1 awesome cat). At the campsites, we have picnic tables, fire pits, bbqs, ice chests on request, and more. A clean and fresh well water hand/dishwashing station and two outhouses are conveniently located to the campsites. We provide one hot water shower and there are 3 outhouse style toilets on the grounds.
There is NO running water at the sites so we suggest you bring your own drinking water. There will be limited water provided for hand/dish washing.
We are a pack it in/pack it out campground so please, be mindful of waste as we ask that you take it out with you.
Eucalyptus, oak, and/or pine firewood is provided free for you during your stay with us. It really is a beautiful and wonderful property. There is wildlife, and it is private and peaceful. It is very dark at night and the view of the stars, moon, and planets is amazing. There is poison oak on the property so please be aware. We will show you what it looks like, so you can easily avoid it.

Parking is close to our Vega Vortex sign and a short walk to your tent. Filtered potable water, electricity, shower/toilet with an "on demand" hot/cold water are available. Instructions for use are available and should you need assistance - we are here for you!
Experience 2 campsites, BYOT (bring your own tent or rent one from us) or an onsite Bell tent. The Bell tent contains carpeted padded flooring, camp lights,
shelving, 2 cots with bedding, plus a memory foam camping mattress! The BYOT site's measurement is 10' x 10' . Both sites have shaded areas, and picnic tables. A shower and a compost toilet are available.
Enjoy a designated smoking/vaping spot, multiple benches, and swings, a "grounding" spot, birding, water fountains and art.
A no noise policy by the county occurs at 9 pm. Due to a high risk fire zone, no open fires. Due to the proximity of the tents right next to Vega Rd, sounds from vehicles can be heard. We are situated in a rural neighborhood setting, with sounds of sheep, goats, chickens, wild turkeys, dogs and many birds nestled between both counties. For enhanced protection we ask that a waiver be signed. Security cameras are on site. While respecting your privacy, we can be seen improving the property. The terrain is hilly and staying on paths limits poison oak exposure.
Vega Vortex has been called a Park and Machu Picchu due to the amphitheater landscaping of terracing. Practicing permaculture, a diversity of pollinating plants/ flowers, organic garden and art features exist. Minutes away from National Parks, the Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk, Roaring Camp Train, Monterey Bay Aquarium, National Steinbeck Center, Moss Landing, Elkhorn Slough/Canoe/Kayak, Estuaries (bird watching), golfing and multiple beaches.

We loved staying here for a few nights! Absolutely amazing for stargazing, and the host Veronica is super welcoming. She shared her mission to preserve the Blue Oaks and really cares about treating the land properly. Highly recommend, overall great experience. 45 min to Pinnacles National Park too

Can’t speak more highly of the site. The view was beautiful, and the space was immaculate. Besides a picnic table and chairs, the stung lights were a nice touch. I made the mistake of only booking 1 night instead of 2. After cleaning up my things for the campers that had reserved the site for that night I meet the host Jeffery. He was absolutely wonderful and understanding. He was so nice he invited us to stay another night on the other side of the property. It was not yet equipped with a fire pit but before I was finished stetting up our camp, he had brought us enough rocks to build one and help me do it. We could not have been luckier to find this spot and such a kind and friendly host. 10 out 10 stars.

Nice quiet spot, with 30 amp hookup, potable water, nice firepit. In view of neighboring houses but at good distance. No bathroom, you need your own camp toilet. I would stay here again.

Camping here in winter months meant that we were the only campers! Veronica is an incredibly host - very knowledgable of the land, wildlife and preserving the CA old oaks. She was very responsive of all the questions we had and very helpful when we had questions.
#4 Campsite is the closest to the amenities even though it's still a few minutes walk into the owner's fenced property. It gets cold at night so bundle up when nature calls to walk over. If you need to use the bathrooms in night like us, I'd recommend Campsite #4 due to proximity. The campsite itself also had some nice trees for shade and it'd be a welcome asset during hotter months. PRO TIP: If you need water spigot, it's also walking towards to the fenced property to wash dishes or clean you items. We didn't bring our camp buckets so that was slight inconvenience due to our miss.
Like other said, please be prepared to lose cell connection going to the property. Having the directions printed out was handy for us and definitely try to arrive when there is still light. Much easier to find than being in the dark.
We had cloudy evening so didn't catch the starry night which is why we will have to be back!

Really lovely! RE: the other reviews, yes some spots are tight and yes there is ambient noise, but silence and great hiking are just a five minute walk away. Beautiful views, the staff was very nice, and I think $60/night when you get a sauna, shower, and clean bathrooms is a good deal in this area.

Nancy was the highlight of the trip and so accommodating and helpful throughout the entire process. She made me feel so welcome and she was lovely to talk to. Despite all the beautiful land on Nancy’s property, my pups decided to go on a little four hour “adventure” by sneaking under the gate. Nancy was SO helpful with contacting neighbors to be on the lookout and even helped drive around herself!
Perhaps if you have opportunistic pups who like to explore every nook and cranny for a loophole, keep them on a long line! Luckily the stinkers came back once they got bored of freedom 🫠

This is the sort of tucked-away spot you'd hope to find when you're boondocking somewhere. Totally quiet, just you and the trees.
Great communication from host and directions to the site were right on the money.
We camped there in our 25' RV - I sure wouldn't take anything bigger up that road and driveway. It is winding and barely wide enough to pass in many spots.
No cell service and Starlink wasn't stable because of the heavy canopy.

By far the best car camping experience we have ever had. Kristine and the entire team were fabulous - extremely responsive with great instructions before arriving and so genuinely friendly once we arrived. The property is literally minutes from the west gate of pinnacles (unheard of given how remote the park is), and feels like you are already in the park. Vineyards one direction and the mountains and pinnacles the other - we saw four outstanding sunrises/sunsets in just two days. We walked the vineyards and got to learn about the history of the winery from the owners and staff who were on site while we were there - all were incredibly kind and welcomed us like family. We can’t wait to go back and will be recommending this to all of our friends!

Beautiful spot that books months in advance. If you’re lucky you’ll have the whole place to yourself as there are only 2 spaces. They let us slide with five people but typically it allows for 4 people per site. The other campers didn’t show so we had the space to ourselves and it was awesome! I recommend grabbing both if you can.
Ocean (not accessible) sounds, dolphins, giant trees, and complete privacy from the Big Sur foot traffic. There’s no water, and it is hike in/out.. but not far at all..,and you can pull your car up at the top of the short walk for unloading and loading so it really still feels like car camping with a little extra hauling required. Definetly in my top 10, a must do!

Try to arrive before dark so you can find it and find your campsite. This is a very beautiful campground with big trees and was a very enjoyable stop in Big Sur

One of the best campsites ever! Spot #1 is right at the edge of the cliff with nonstop loud crashing waves below. Has a picnic table, fire pit, bear box, and modern pit toilets. no water. The picnic table is perfectly situated for sunset watching. The nearby trails are closed due to the fire a while back, but there's a lot to do a short drive away.

Wow did we ever get lucky by scoring a cancellation spot at this site. SO BEAUTIFUL. Only 2 sites that are right next to each other. In fact...site 1 guests NEVER showed up! what a shame. Really hope it doesnt burn down with those fires going on to the north right now. About the hike in. Its really not a hike at all. Living in SF I usally have to park that distance, or further from my house every day. Yes it can be a little annoying because you have to carry everything in. But its really not bad at all. We parked at the very end of the lot closest to the road and the walk was a piece of cake. Only cumbersome thing was having to check in about 11 miles north of the campground at the main Big Sur park check in area. Dont forget that part!

The two sites are at a pretty good distance from each other. This is a little paradise with a lot of space. We probably were lucky but we saw whales, dolphins and sea lions hanging around down the cliff. What a spot!

There is NO WATER at these environmental campsites. The only place to fill up is at the spigot right by the restrooms in the parking lot, which is about 1/2 a mile away.

Rather than parking in the JPB lot and schlepping your stuff, drive another 1/4 mile or so down Hwy. 1 until you see a pullout on your right and a fenced fire road. This is the most direct way down to the campsites. It's pretty steep, but MUCH shorter.

Pack light, its not a drive up campsite. You'll have to haul your stuff a little ways but its worth it. Secure your food, we weren't there ten minutes before a critter ate half my avocado. Dang!

Unfortunately the beach is strictly off limits- please do not attempt to access through unmarked trails. It's a very dangerous climb!

Parking is $10, but good for all the parks here (for the day), if you’re strapped on cash, you can park along Hwy 1 for free. Just be sure to follow all regulations to avoid any potential ticket or towing.

If you have time to only do a couple trails, make them the McWay Falls trail and the Ewoldsen, they’re both epic. Keep in mind the Ewoldsen will take a couple hours.
