Weekend Trip to Atascadero’s hidden gem

We needed a site with hookups and enough space to feel comfortable as we passed through the Atascadero area on a trip down the coast. We were grateful that Barb's spot fit the bill perfectly! We had hookups and water and a pen for our dogs. We were grateful for the kind greeting but equally for the space to do our thing and carry on our trip. Thank you so much for having us, Barb!

A nice escape to a little spot on the top of a mountain. A nice table set up under a solar lit oak tree was very atmospheric for our meals. Water readily available and a compost WC close enough as needed. As animal lovers, we enjoyed a few of the friendly farm animals that came by to visit. Beautiful views. Being on top of the ridge, you may find you're in a morning cloud for certain seasons. Be careful when exiting Hwy 101. If traveling southbound, it is worthwhile heading into SLO to u-turn at Monterey exit to be safer. When exiting northbound, slow down well in advance after summiting Cuesta, as the turn will suddenly appear. Note: this is not a place to considering driving into town from camp routinely due to the challenges of entering and exiting Hwy 101. Plan to spend most of your time relaxing in camp, or exploring further up Mt. Lowe road to the several antenna hilltops and enjoy the amazing views.

Seriously this place was magical. The drive in was lovely. Driving on back roads through vineyards and oaks and rolling hills was lovely. The space for camping is amazing. Hundreds of lupins greeted us on the top property. Because we came in early May we stayed at the top which has almost 360 views. But I can see how staying on the lower property in the hot months would be good. Bathroom was clean and just awesome to have. Hosts were super helpful. I’d love to come again.

Beautiful rural neighborhood with rolling hills and close to town. Host was so great and the camp sight was very well maintained. I felt very safe camping alone. Went on a walk around the neighborhood and it was very picturesque. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Camp Arroyo Grande

Cute little cabins, hot hot hot showers and a very laid-back vibe. Only cons are the cabins very limited and easily overwhelmed power supply and outlets. Power fell out a couple of times and luckily we figured it out quickly or it would have really affected our trip. Nights have been in the 40's, so I'd bring extra warm blankets if you plan on staying in summer weather.

Our stay at Chris & Karina's campsite was absolutely fantastic! The site is stunning—beautifully maintained and perfectly secluded while still feeling safe and accessible. It came with everything we needed: a clean and well-kept compost toilet, a picnic table, fire pit, fire extinguisher, and a shovel. There was plenty of flat space for our three tents, chairs, and gear, and even a charming little bench nearby that gave us the perfect spot to watch the sunset. We were able to purchase firewood ahead of time, and it was conveniently delivered before we arrived. Chris and Karina were incredibly kind and responsive throughout the entire process. I highly recommend staying at one of their properties- you won't be disappointed!

We are secluded and it feels like you're far away from city life yet San Luis Obispo is only a twenty minute drive away. We neighbor Los Padres National Forest which has several miles of hiking and biking trails. On our farm we have 10 sheep, 10 goats, 22 chickens, 2 pigs, 4 dogs and a cat. Interaction with farm animals is common place as most campsites are close to our animal pastures. Bee hives are located on the property as well. Honey, eggs and firewood are available for purchase. :)

Creekside Camping and Mineral Baths

We can accommodate tent campers or car campers. Each campsite fits 4-6 people. The price is $40/per person. Kids under 12 are free. Most campsites are accessible by car and all campsites are accessible by foot. PLEASE NOTE, we do not have a traditional check in procedure. Campsites are first come first serve. Expect a "self-check in process" most of the time. However, there are sometimes people working onsite that you may run into, that are happy to help and lead you in the right direction. IMPORTANT INFO Please don't mind our farm junk/tools as you enterGate 1! We are slowly working on clean up and relocation of materials from the entry road and away from view. This is located past the mineral baths. It's the furthest one to reach, and accessible by foot. SLO Country Camp

SLO Country Camp was once a part of the Serpa Ranch, one of the early ranches of the Central Coast. It’s remained a beautiful rural pocket in the Edna Valley area of San Luis Obispo. It’s quiet and peaceful, enjoy your morning coffee listening to all the birds waking up. There’s a private creek not far away that draws deer and wildlife. Just saw 3 deer run through out property 2 days ago. Owls, red tail hawks, eagles, squirrels and jack rabbits we see frequently. And you can listen to the coyotes howling at night. We’re surrounded by rolling coastal hills, vineyards, horses, cattle and also land apportioned to the Land Conservancy. Walk down our road and then left up to the top of the hill for a panoramic view of the entire area with the city San Luis Obispo at a distance. Our two sites are flat on decomposed granite pads. Both have excellent views and easy access to our common areas: wash/kitchen prep, and cold-water outdoor shower. Site 1 is best for trailers but Site 2 is adequate. Firewood is available for purchase at camp for those wanting to use the fire pit, or you can bring your own. The San Luis Obispo, Central Coast has so much to see and do! Hiking trails abound, my favorites are Bob Jones trail to walk or bike to Avila Beach, Johnson Ranch and Irish Hills for hiking hills, the Ridge trail for a view over Shell and Avila beaches, and the Harmony Trail to walk grassy cliffs by the ocean. Montano de Oro is only 15 minutes away with rocky ocean cliff trails that lead down to the coastline. We are 5 minutes from the beginning of the Edna Valley winery trail with 30 wineries or more I’ve lost count. Tasting and relaxing in great atmospheres. My favorites are Biddle Ranch, Talley, Mailene, Chamisal, Bailyanna... but there are so many more. We’re 10 minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo, 10–12 minutes to Avila or Pismo beaches. Morro Bay is 25 minutes. And we’re just 5 minutes off the 101 for easy access to traveling. The Central Coast has almost everything for fun, adventure and food. Surfing, biking, hiking, ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, golf, wine and beer culture, ranch lands, shopping and restaurants and we’re close to it all.

Coastal towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay are about an hour scenic drive, passing many wineries along the way. There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. We named our property the Twisted Branch after one of the big oak trees that sits on the site where you will camp with us! It's on a hilltop with amazing views in nearly all directions. The campsite faces South/West so sunsets are fantastic. We use no chemicals on the soil or annual grasses. It is very quiet and the night sky is always stunning. Owls hoot at night and Redtail Hawks hunt for ground squirrels during the day. We have alot of Acorn woodpeckers living in the oak trees, the ones with the bright red head feathers. April through June we see bright yellow Orioles. At night you will hear hundreds of little frogs in the nearby ponds, depending on the season. We are located in the heart of Wine Country and there are plenty of activities around us and in town.

The entrance to the camping area is a very wide oil pipe fenced driveway off Branch Road, designed to accommodate farm equipment and cattle trailers. Sometimes map apps say you've arrived at one of the separate residential driveways on the property. Please keep looking for the commercial sized entrance. We are a 15 minute drive to the restaurants and shopping in downtown Paso Robles, 8 minutes to the Vina Robles Amphitheater, 6 minutes to the Hunter Ranch Golf Course, and 5 min to the Sensorio Art Exhibit. In 1881 my family purchased this property. It's home to abundant wildlife, our cattle herd and minutes away from the Los Padres National Forest. The area has a rich history, of gold and silver mining and bank robbers. Jesse and Frank James lived at the nearby La Panza Ranch while nursing gunshot wounds. We are a short drive from Pozo Road, where you will find yourself nestled under an oak amongst the season's vegetation. Abundant wildlife in the camp area with pigs, coyotes and Tule elk residing in the mountains on the property. Seasonal birds, wildflowers and cattle grazing. Hike, bike or just relax on the property and enjoy the star gazing that comes without the city lights. It's just a few minutes down the road to the Los Padres National Forrest but at least 45 minutes to the closest town. If you bring your dirt bikes or ATVs you'll need to enjoy them only while on the forest property. We enjoy our wildlife and work to protect it with rotational cattle grazing. The property has been in the family since 1881; remnants of past farming and livestock operations are ever-present. We look forward to your visit!

We are central to Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay and Cambria. Only 30 minutes to Hearst Castle, 1.25 hours to Solvang, 24 minutes to Morro Bay or Cambria. There are more wineries than you could possibly visit, natural hot springs nearby, Atascadero lake, zoo, spas, amazing hiking, horse riding etc. Grocery, fast food, shopping & great restaurants are within minutes and the thrifting and antiquing around here is amazing. Atascadero has that small town feel with lots of community events on the calendar.

Overview

The “last of the California beach towns” is the motto of Cayucos, a small Central Coast community popular for its pier and its proximity to the attractions of Morro Bay. Surfers flock to Cayucos State Beach to catch waves, while anglers and sunset-watchers head out on the pier. Just to the south, Morro Bay State Park and Morro Strand State Beach offer more surfing and fishing, plus areas for kayaking, windsurfing, and kiteboarding. The shoreline here is dominated by Morro Rock, which juts into the Pacific and makes for great sunset photo ops. For hiking, continue south to Montaña de Oro State Park to explore trails that highlight the rugged coastline and seasonal wildflowers. RV options within the town of Cayucos are limited but RV parks with hookups and basic amenities can be found around Morro Bay. Some state parks and beaches also accommodate RVs, but not always with hookups.
