SLO Country Camp

SLO Country Camp was once a part of the Serpa Ranch, one of the early ranches of the Central Coast. It’s remained a beautiful rural pocket in the Edna Valley area of San Luis Obispo. It’s quiet and peaceful, enjoy your morning coffee listening to all the birds waking up. There’s a private creek not far away that draws deer and wildlife. Just saw 3 deer run through out property 2 days ago. Owls, red tail hawks, eagles, squirrels and jack rabbits we see frequently. And you can listen to the coyotes howling at night. We’re surrounded by rolling coastal hills, vineyards, horses, cattle and also land apportioned to the Land Conservancy. Walk down our road and then left up to the top of the hill for a panoramic view of the entire area with the city San Luis Obispo at a distance. Our two sites are flat on decomposed granite pads. Both have excellent views and easy access to our common areas: wash/kitchen prep, and cold-water outdoor shower. Site 1 is best for trailers but Site 2 is adequate. Firewood is available for purchase at camp for those wanting to use the fire pit, or you can bring your own. The San Luis Obispo, Central Coast has so much to see and do! Hiking trails abound, my favorites are Bob Jones trail to walk or bike to Avila Beach, Johnson Ranch and Irish Hills for hiking hills, the Ridge trail for a view over Shell and Avila beaches, and the Harmony Trail to walk grassy cliffs by the ocean. Montano de Oro is only 15 minutes away with rocky ocean cliff trails that lead down to the coastline. We are 5 minutes from the beginning of the Edna Valley winery trail with 30 wineries or more I’ve lost count. Tasting and relaxing in great atmospheres. My favorites are Biddle Ranch, Talley, Mailene, Chamisal, Bailyanna... but there are so many more. We’re 10 minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo, 10–12 minutes to Avila or Pismo beaches. Morro Bay is 25 minutes. And we’re just 5 minutes off the 101 for easy access to traveling. The Central Coast has almost everything for fun, adventure and food. Surfing, biking, hiking, ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, golf, wine and beer culture, ranch lands, shopping and restaurants and we’re close to it all.

Most campsites are accessible by car and all campsites are accessible by foot. We do not have a traditional check in procedure. Campsites are first come first serve. Expect a "self-check in process." You choose your own campsite so plan to arrive early and look for the yellow tent symbols. On holiday weekends and summer weekends we tend to get busy and campsites fill up. This leads to some campsites on the property in view of other campsites. We do have private campsites available but its first come first basis. BYO water. We have sulfur spring water. Great for your skin, not good to drink! There's a couple outhouses on the property. One in the main camp zone, one at the far north end of the lower Redwood campsite. You can also bring a shovel and take a walk if you're in the more remote campsites. We have a dumpster outside the gate for your garbage. IMPORTANT INFO Please don't mind our farm junk as you enter Gate 1. We are slowly working on clean up and relocation of materials from the entry road and away from view. Situated on 12 acres, our property is a great spot where you can unplug, unwind and simply check out from your daily chaos. Sit back and enjoy the songs of the evening crickets and frogs. We are located on Hwy 41, a 10 minute drive to the coast, the famous Morro Rock, and 20 minutes from both San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles where you will find shopping, fine restaurants and plenty of local wineries in the area. We are lucky to have over 300 award winning wineries in our area so if you like wine, this is a great place to tour and taste! The loft has a spacious queen size bed for your sleeping pleasure with adjustable reading lights on either side of the bed. The living area offers a fold down couch for another adult or 2 kids. There is a kitchenette with a toaster oven, electric tea kettle and coffee maker. There is a charcoal Weber bbq grill and a propane gas 2 burner stove. We provided a propane fire pit during the fire ban, bring propane & charcoal etc. The 13’ Stout Bell tent is sitting on a hillside under an oak tree. Our Bell tent has 2 sturdy cots with a wool and cotton bed roll for peaceful sleeping. Please BRING your own bedding, sleeping bag or blankets and a pillow for yourselves. Inside you will find cozy sitting cushions, layers of carpets, a wood burning stove which is perfect for the kettle. The Bell tent has plenty of head room to stand and move around in. There is a 2 burner gas grill along with a charcoal bbq and ice chest. There is a well lit bathroom with hot shower and flushable toilet 100 yards away. We have a moderate climb hiking trail down the road, Cerro Alto, that offers beautiful views of our coastline. Simply sit back and watch the the wild turkeys and deer roaming freely on our land, or head out to taste some of San Luis Obispo County award winning wines.

This property is 30 miles from Paso Robles and almost perfectly centered between Missions San Antonio and San Miguel. Lakes San Antonio and Nacimiento are close by. Coastal towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay are about an hour scenic drive, passing many wineries along the way. There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. Site two will accommodate ten people and two vehicles. For larger groups we ask that that you book both sites. We have hosted many family reunions and the feedback has been 100% positive. On a drive one weekend a few years back, we started talking about what we wanted to do when we retired...after some really outlandish and ridiculous ideas, Evan said "I've always wanted to have some land and a few sheep"...and so the dream began! After much conversation, we decided we didn't want to wait until we retired to turn our dream into a reality, so I got a new job, we packed up the storage unit, and moved to Paso Robles, CA with only a dream and a whole lot of hope! As all things that are meant to be go, our farm was listed the day we moved to town, two days later we put a contact on it, and the rest is history. A little bit about me: I am a city girl, born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. Until just 4 years ago, I worked as a radiation therapist, treating cancer patients. Since moving to Paso, I work on the vendor side of cancer care, which has allowed me to live here! I get lots of compliments on my scones, I help my husband make cheese, and apparently I'm the chicken and duck whisperer on the farm! A little about Evan: Evan is also from Maryland, and that's where we met. He is a professional photographer, getting his start as a freelance photojournalist. Ev moved into the event side of photography, shooting primarily weddings, and did so for many years. Once we decided to pursue the dream of being sheep farmers/cheese makers/inn keepers he hung up his cameras (at least professionally) and focuses his attention on the well being of our animals, as well as being the primary cheese maker! When Evan is not helping me check in guests, taking care of the farm/animals or making cheese, he works in the wine industry, at a local winery called Villicana. When you are staying with us, we hope to provide a relaxing enjoyable experience that allows you to escape from everyday life.

We are living our dream after recently finding and purchasing this beautiful 10 acre parcel, one of the sunniest in the canyon with a bucolic creek that flows all year. See Canyon itself is a special place. Home to a multitude of birds and wildlife, a beautiful scenic winding road, lush landscaping and a host of apple orchards. Thanks to the micro climate we have here, we grow some of the best fruit in the country. The coastal canyon is just a short distance to the beach and 15 minutes into town but feels like a world away when you are here. The star gazing is incredible as the canyon walls block the light pollution and the milky way shines! Welcome to our little slice of 10 acre heaven in the Canyon! Just bring yourself and we have everything else!! Nestle up in the Cozy Gnome Home, a 1967 vintage trailer and listen to the symphony of frogs in the creek just outside your window. With love and labor... we gutted, redesigned and restored this little trailer for the ultimate functioning space for two. Nice little kitchen with copper counters and everything you need for cooking and dining. A Berkey filter for clean water, hardwood floors and a comfy bed complete with organic mattress, down comforter and cotton sheets. Fold out dining table if you care to (or need to) eat indoors. There is also an outdoor kitchen space with a sink (no hot water), gas grill, propane burner (bring your own small canister) and a patio table and chairs. We have a charcoal grill available too. The creek runs mostly year round so feel free to get your feet wet on a hot sunny day. We also have an outdoor warm shower and sink as well as a hot water kitchen sink that you can share with other campers. You are welcome to cruise the property and check out the chickens, ducks and horses. We have three dogs on the ranch, a deaf and incredibly sweet pitbull ( he is a food thief so store food and garbage as though raccoons were a problem), a curious and playful ranch dog Pluto (who will be your tour guide) and a Boston Bulldogge, Astrid. We are surrounded by orchards which have some of the best apples and pears in the country. Seasonally you can stop by many apple markets and do a tasting. We also have a lively wine tasting venue less than a mile away. Avila Beach is a short 4 miles away and we are happy to share bikes if we have them available but can't guarantee any. Our location is a bikers' dream as the 13 mile scenic road takes you all the way into SLO. NOTE: If you want to bring others to camp, please note that they need to bring their own tents and supplies, we only have room for two but welcome self sufficient campers to join you :) also, we have a camp stove you can use to cook on but bring your own little green propane canister.

The loft has a spacious queen size bed for your sleeping pleasure with adjustable reading lights on either side of the bed. The living area offers a fold down couch for another adult or 2 kids. There is a kitchenette with a toaster oven, electric tea kettle and coffee maker. There is a charcoal Weber bbq grill and a propane gas 2 burner stove. We provided a propane fire pit during the fire ban, bring propane & charcoal etc. The 13’ Stout Bell tent is sitting on a hillside under an oak tree. Our Bell tent has 2 sturdy cots with a wool and cotton bed roll for peaceful sleeping. Please BRING your own bedding, sleeping bag or blankets and a pillow for yourselves. Inside you will find cozy sitting cushions, layers of carpets, a wood burning stove which is perfect for the kettle. The Bell tent has plenty of head room to stand and move around in. There is a 2 burner gas grill along with a charcoal bbq and ice chest. There is a well lit bathroom with hot shower and flushable toilet 100 yards away. We have a moderate climb hiking trail down the road, Cerro Alto, that offers beautiful views of our coastline. Simply sit back and watch the the wild turkeys and deer roaming freely on our land, or head out to taste some of San Luis Obispo County award winning wines.

SLO Country Camp

SLO Country Camp was once a part of the Serpa Ranch, one of the early ranches of the Central Coast. It’s remained a beautiful rural pocket in the Edna Valley area of San Luis Obispo. It’s quiet and peaceful, enjoy your morning coffee listening to all the birds waking up. There’s a private creek not far away that draws deer and wildlife. Just saw 3 deer run through out property 2 days ago. Owls, red tail hawks, eagles, squirrels and jack rabbits we see frequently. And you can listen to the coyotes howling at night. We’re surrounded by rolling coastal hills, vineyards, horses, cattle and also land apportioned to the Land Conservancy. Walk down our road and then left up to the top of the hill for a panoramic view of the entire area with the city San Luis Obispo at a distance. Our two sites are flat on decomposed granite pads. Both have excellent views and easy access to our common areas: wash/kitchen prep, and cold-water outdoor shower. Site 1 is best for trailers but Site 2 is adequate. Firewood is available for purchase at camp for those wanting to use the fire pit, or you can bring your own. The San Luis Obispo, Central Coast has so much to see and do! Hiking trails abound, my favorites are Bob Jones trail to walk or bike to Avila Beach, Johnson Ranch and Irish Hills for hiking hills, the Ridge trail for a view over Shell and Avila beaches, and the Harmony Trail to walk grassy cliffs by the ocean. Montano de Oro is only 15 minutes away with rocky ocean cliff trails that lead down to the coastline. We are 5 minutes from the beginning of the Edna Valley winery trail with 30 wineries or more I’ve lost count. Tasting and relaxing in great atmospheres. My favorites are Biddle Ranch, Talley, Mailene, Chamisal, Bailyanna... but there are so many more. We’re 10 minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo, 10–12 minutes to Avila or Pismo beaches. Morro Bay is 25 minutes. And we’re just 5 minutes off the 101 for easy access to traveling. The Central Coast has almost everything for fun, adventure and food. Surfing, biking, hiking, ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, golf, wine and beer culture, ranch lands, shopping and restaurants and we’re close to it all.

There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. Site two will accommodate ten people and two vehicles. For larger groups we ask that that you book both sites. We have hosted many family reunions and the feedback has been 100% positive. Just north of Morro Bay on Highway 1, Cayucos is a compact coastal community and home to Cayucos State Beach, a popular surfing, kayaking, and tide-pooling destination. Even better, Cayucos camping gives you the best of both worlds—access to California wine country and the rugged Central Coast. Camping is not allowed at Cayucos State Beach, but those looking to get back to nature can instead head to a variety of private Hipcamp campsites, RV parks, and deluxe glamping cottages—or hit other nearby state beaches. Want to explore the inland landscapes? Relax while wine tasting in Paso Robles, or go camping in Los Padres National Forest for scenic horseback riding and mountain biking trails.

Where to Go

San Luis Obispo County

There's plenty to explore right in San Luis Obispo County, from pretty beaches to inland trails. Morro Strand State Beach offers ocean views with three miles of sandy shoreline known for their gusts, which are prime for windsurfing and kitesurfing, while Pismo Beach features two year-round campgrounds with easy access to surfing, dog-friendly walks, and fishing at the local pier. The Morro Bay State Park campground is perched on a saltwater lagoon teeming with shorebirds and home to both tent and RV camping sites with full hookups. Plus, campsite views of the 581-foot Morro Rock are a huge plus.

Santa Barbara County

Encompassing a good portion of the Central Coast region and the areas inland from it, Santa Barbara County offers a mix of chic communities and cute, old-timey towns, historic Spanish Colonial architecture, and a celebrated wine country. Popular state beaches include El Capitán State Beach and Refugio State Beach, both offering campsites year-round.

Los Padres National Forest

For a heavy dose of the great outdoors, head inland and into Los Padres National Forest, southeast of Cayucos. Here you'll find miles of hiking trails and lots of public campgrounds, some of which have views out on the ocean. Cerro Alto Campground is best for horseback riding and mountain biking trails, while other daytime activities include popping into Paso Robles for wine tasting.

When to Go

With a mild, Mediterranean climate, Cayucos is a great place to go camping no matter the season, with highs rarely exceeding the upper 60s (and if they do, it's generally in late summer or early fall). Summers are dry, while winters get a bit of rainfall. Fall is the most popular time for surfing, while winter is a great time to see migratory whales.
