From the tent campsite, you look out for 20 miles and see nothing but nature across small mountains and canyons all the way to the peaks of Angeles National Forest in the distance. The campsite is a large flat area. For a trailer or RV it's a great place to park and the view is towards wide open spaces. With a tent or if you want more pure nature, you can drive out onto the property further towards the small ruin of the old homesteader's cabin or beyond. The property has a long-abandoned gold mine and circular arrastres where miners used mules to break up rocks. Nearby Acton has pick-your-own apples/pears/peaches at Bloom farms. We are at 3000 feet with strong sun during the day and cool mountains air at night. The camping is set away from structures, but if you want to stroll, closer to the ranch buildings, we have friendly small goats you can visit if interested and horses and a donkey to say hello to across the corral fence.

Run by three generations, our ranch has been in our family for more than 70 years. We opened our doors to the public in 2014 to help support feeding our animals, bred and rescued, after the Powerhouse Fire almost burned us out. We’ve survived a county quarantine(2018-2019), the COVID Lockdowns (2021-2022), the Lake Fire (2020), and the Hurricane Kay burn scar debris flow and flood (9/11/22), depending on hard work and strong family and community bonds. In addition to camping and educational tours, we host private and community events, grow and sell produce and eggs, hatch and sell chicks, rescue ratites, and support the local bee population (which gives us RAW honey to sell), and are working to open a private U-pick-by-appointment orchard. We are all animal lovers, and conservationists, and try to do our part to ensure our children inherit a healthy and viable world. This is our home where we live, work, love, and play. We enjoy sharing our space with visitors who we hope learn about ostrich and make some great memories.

It can be windy at times, in order to mitigate this I recommend using your car(s) to block the wind. Local markets also sell neck gaiters for face protection. I also have pieces of plywood with bricks that you're welcome to move and shift to fit your needs. I am in the process of building a tree/shrub wind block.
There's about .4 miles of dirt road to get to the property, there are some dips to watch out for but I come out here in a little Prius so it's manageable.
Overall, there is an element of seclusion but occasionally people do drive by on the dirt road.
I would rate the cell phone service a 7/10, it's pretty solid but can go out at times.

Hungry Valley SVRA is the third largest unit of California State Park's Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division. Located in the Tejon Pass north of Los Angeles and along the Interstate 5 corridor, Hungry Valley offers 19,000 acres and more than 130 miles of scenic trails for motorcycle, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV), dune buggies, and 4x4 recreation. All levels of OHV operator skills will be challenged by the wide variety of terrain and trails at Hungry Valley SVRA.
Elevations at Hungry Valley range from 3,000 to nearly 6,000 feet. Occasional snowfalls occur during the winter. Summers are most often hot, dry and dusty. The most pleasant times of the year for OHV fun are during the Spring and Fall months when the temperatures are mild and occasional rain showers make for good traction and reduced dust. Nighttime temperatures often drop below freezing in the Spring and Fall, as well as during the Winter.
The wide variety of trails at Hungry Valley provides excitement for both beginner and experienced off-roaders. For experienced OHVers challenging trails can be found in the hills and sand washes of the back- country section of the SVRA. Beginners can enjoy the scenery and relative ease of the trails in the Native Grasslands Management Area. Trails in the adjoining Los Padres National Forest are recommended for experienced riders only.

We are the largest Arabian horse rescue in the United States. We are on 100 acres, but are currently using only 10 fenced acres for our horses. We have an average of 75 horses on our property. Most live in larger areas or paddocks in group "herds".
We focus on rehabilitation and training with the goal of finding permanent homes for our horses. However, we have about 30+ horses who are "sanctuary horses", either because they are older, or were traumatized, or have health issues, thus will not be rideable. Two spots are near our little Western Town, you can even sleep in the jail or inside the general store. Another location is near the horses or in a more secluded area.
We have two spots to park RVs as well.
You can visit with the horses, while enjoying some idyllic beautiful high desert vistas. At night, you can see the city lights from a distance, but it is far enough to really see the stars in the night sky (no light pollution).
Please bring your own chairs. We have a serviced porta-potty with potable water access.
Camp Fire: Because of fire danger, there are no campfires possible.
We have a working gold mine across the street, that can be hiked up to, to a certain point. We have lots of desert trails surrounding us.
Activities: Learn about horses and help at the horse rescue, feeding and watering, giving horses treats.
All proceeds from your camping on our property goes to support the horses at our rescue.

This was originally a Girl Scout camp called Singing Pines back in the 30’s. You’ll see as you roam around some of the original buildings and structures. It hasn’t been in operation as a Girl Scout camp for over 30 years. The bigger building is an Airbnb for groups. They will also have access to the lake.
DIRECTIONS:
Take Exit for Angeles Crest Hwy (Hwy 2) from the 210
Go North, up the mountain for 29 miles
Turn left on Sulpher Springs Rd
Go about a mile and you will see a Singing Pines sign up on a hill on the right side.
There is a white gate which is usually open but if it's closed go ahead and open it.
Go down that driveway about a mile and turn left at the fork.
Follow that road down and around the lake staying to the right. Once you passed the lake there will be a little uphill and the location is on the left.

The Skoolie is a converted short bus with two love seats that convert to an RV queen bed, sink, stove top, dinette, and over head lights. Outside is a private meadow with a short walk to a small lake. You can bring your fishing gear. It's stocked with Bass and Bluegill. Outside the Skoolie is a picnic table, fire pit (firewood $10 a bundle) and a hammock. Up the hill, a very short walk is the private campground toilet facility. This is not shared with anyone else.
No cell phone reception no linens bring a sleeping bag or warm blankets. You can charge your phone in the Skoolie for a sunrise alarm or just to take pictures.

Just stopped overnight to see the meteor shower. Nice dark big sky! The hosts are very kind. I arrived rather late, after dark, but they led me to the site graciously. There is a picnic table at both sites I saw, and a thoughtful box put out with lights, games and bug spray. Thank you!

John is the type of host that makes Hipcamp special. He is welcoming, thorough, and has clearly put much thought and detail into his camp. Site 1 was fairly level and spacious. It was also near a very clean and unique complex of bathrooms, sinks, and showers. The road up was rough but easily doable without 4WD if you're careful. My family had a great stay and would certainly camp here again next time we're in Tehachapi!

This was a sweet stop on my road trip from LA to Yosemite. Araceli greeted me even though I got in after dark, and gave me a thorough tour. I loved showering outdoors under the stars, the beautiful view in the morning, and the fact that the cabin had AC!! Truly one of the best glamping experiences.

Had a last minute trip to stay here and it was so lovely! The campground itself had a picnic table and a few tree stumps that could be used as chairs. We watched the sunset and overnight heard the sound of birds and crickets. In the morning we woke up and after we had made our own breakfast we went to feed the horse and see the goats and also feed their 70-year-old tortoise named Benito on the property. They provided us with some board games to play with at the campsite which was so thoughtful. I really loved staying here. It was a very great way to get to camp within an hour of Los Angeles. Would definitely recommend.

Arminda & Alex are the best hosts you could ask for. This place was easy to find, and the couple and their family were nothing but lovely. The camping spots were serene and private. The hiking was fantastic and when they asked if we needed anything at all, we inquired about forgotten batteries. Not only did they provide them for us, they went out of their way to get them. I recommend lots of sunscreen but all in all I will recommend this place to everyone and be going back myself soon in the future!

John’s property “unique mountain retreat” is just that! Beautiful views, and hiking trails, We stay in the studio cabin and it is very comfortable.
John is an awesome host and very accommodating, He takes pride in his camp and makes sure everything is clean and that we have what we need. There is an Albertsons grocery in town, about a 15 minute drive. John is respectful of his guests privacy and available if needed.
This trip we saw deer, Jack rabbits, ground squirrels and a momma quail and her babies following her across the road. We love our peaceful quiet respite here!

Weekend Trip to Tiny Home Cabin in the Hills
We had such a great weekend getaway in a very cozy tiny home with beautiful scenery! The host Araceli is also super friendly and incredibly thoughtful. Definitely recommend!!!

What a magical little place, and SO close to LA. I had a great weekend getaway with my 8 year old golden retriever. The bus was very charming, we were given water, and Brian even graciously left ice. We had firewood on site which helped not having to try to cram another thing in the car. The location is such a fun historic snapshot of an old summer camp, I did some exploring but wish I had the time to do even more.
I'd absolutely come back! One thing I'd do a little different, depending on the season I'm sure, is there's quite a bit of gnats swarming around. I'll come back with my canopy and have some nets around it to build a little safe zone around the picnic table.
I brought an electric off road bike with me, and I definitely recommend bringing some kind of bike to take the dirt roads for exploring! So much fun.
