This was my families first camping trip post having a kid. This is a great family friendly site. It was nice to not have to concern ourselves with others around us and just let our daughter be herself. It was safe, clean and cute. All in all a great spot. Thanks for sharing Brian.

Angeles Crest Skoolie
What a magical little place, and SO close to LA. I had a great weekend getaway with my 8 year old golden retriever. The bus was very charming, we were given water, and Brian even graciously left ice. We had firewood on site which helped not having to try to cram another thing in the car. The location is such a fun historic snapshot of an old summer camp, I did some exploring but wish I had the time to do even more.
I'd absolutely come back! One thing I'd do a little different, depending on the season I'm sure, is there's quite a bit of gnats swarming around. I'll come back with my canopy and have some nets around it to build a little safe zone around the picnic table.
I brought an electric off road bike with me, and I definitely recommend bringing some kind of bike to take the dirt roads for exploring! So much fun.
This was a 10/10 first HipCamp experience. We have limited options for camping with our 4 dogs: we can’t go to most public campgrounds & my minivan can’t make it to most BLM/ dispersed camping that usually requires a bit of “off roading.”
This was a gorgeous & secluded property and we explored all of it with our dogs. We also hiked up to the PCT access everyday. Will forsure return. Thanks so much.

Beautiful - such a lovely escape! Fun to explore the area too!
What a beautiful place! Felt like I was in the middle of nowhere all by myself ❤️ this was a solo trip, just myself and my dogs. I felt safe yet felt like the world was all mine! The property is gigantic and you’re able to hike from almost any point. Lots and lots of trails and lots and lots to explore! Grateful for the bathroom. The is no running water, except in the van sink. It was nice having a little kitchen! It was nice, not having to lug all my cooking supplies up! there was a hammock, fire pit, freshwater, and a cooler full of ice, waiting for me when I arrived. The bed in the van is comfortable. I am 5’6 and I barely fit laying flat. If you’re taller than me, expect to sleep diagonally or curled up. It gets really cold up there! And the van gets really cold! Make sure you bring lots of warm covers and pajamas! And even a little heater if you have one. A safe propane one because there’s no power for you to plug-in to. Also, there’s no signal out there. Yet you can catch a satellite signal with proper equipment.
Bring all your supplies up with you! There’s no stores around! Space is clean! Beautiful wild yet managed with lots of dilapidated buildings to check out. And so many beautiful views! There’s also a lake! Kayaks, you can take onto the lake as well. I was too cold to attempt getting in the water, but I bet it would be a good time!
The host was great! The drive was so beautiful and easy! I will definitely definitely definitely definitely come here again.
This trip was incredible! The area was very private, and there were lots of great amenities. Brian left us a large trash can with a bag, and a cooler stocked with ice. We'll definitely be coming back.
I almost don’t want to write this review because then this amazing gem of a hipcamp will be less likely to be available when I want to return, but it wouldn’t be right to keep such a magical place under wraps given what a great host and special place it all is. My dogs were in heaven walking around the vast property and the skoolie is perfectly set up for relaxing days in the hammock, followed by long talks and good laughs by the fire at night. Highly recommend.

Brian is an excellent host and the camping site is phenomenal . Lots to explore and is great fun for kids!
My wife and I loved staying in the Skoolie in the Forest! It was our dogs’ first time camping on private grounds and they absolutely loved having the freedom to explore the huge property safely. The skoolie was comfortable and gave a more elevated, yet still organic camping experience. Brian was also nice enough to include a cooler with ice and drinking water for us. We will definitely be back again to make more memories!
We had a ton of fun here. It was very isolated, with privacy you can never get at campground. The only people we bumped into were trying to fix up one of the old girl scout structures, and they were very nice. We saw evidence of construction but never heard it while we were there. We loved exploring the abandoned buildings as much as the nature. The skooloe was very comfy, and the amenities provided were super helpful and in good condition. Just FYI in fall when we went, the lake was quite receded. If water activities are a priority for you, maybe check it out after the area has had a few good rains.
I noticed they haven't opened hipcamp reservations for spring/summer 2025 yet, but my family hopes they do! We'd love to make this a regular spot.
We loved our time here. Tall trees, plenty of shade, off leash for the puppy and nature all around. The host had chairs around the fire pit, a picnic table, a gas stove and cater for us. Inside the car there were utensils (we didn’t use as brought my own), there were wood to purchase with cash (brought my own), also there was a cooler with ice. If you’re very tall the bus might be a bit tight and bed a bit short, 2 humans and a dog slept on the bed. We brought pillows and blankets as it got a bit chill at night. All I can say is that we had a wonderful time. There is space to park the car and ad tents as well. Explore around the old Girl Scouts place, hike, walk, check out the lake. We found the place from the first try. Overall, I’d go back given the opportunity and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is into nature and bird songs. Oh, there was a hammock too, trash bin and restroom available. I’m sure I’m forgetting something. All I can say we enjoyed it dearly. Book away.
My brother and I loved tent camping next to the Skoolie! We got there Friday evening to set up and left on Sunday. You are able to pull the car all the way up to the campground & Skoolie. The site has a nice table, several chairs/benches, and a toilet. The host brought us water and ice which was super nice. The land is incredibly peaceful, literally no one in sight, and there are so many things to explore between old structures and buildings and just plain wandering. We brought a small weber bbq and kept the fire going in the pit most of the time. I would highly recommend and we're definitely going back again :)

An amazing campsite. Brian was a fantastic host and the skoolie and ez up were such great additions.
The Skoolie is a fun and unique way to camp. We loved have some creature comforts and being in the woods at the same time. Cool and creepy (abandoned summer camp) places to stroll around and explore. Peaceful and secluded location. Felt much farther away from the hustle and bustle than we actually were. Thanks for the great place!

Great place to get away from the city. I like that its not too far from LA but still very secluded up in the mountains. Loved the privacy especially at night. No cell reception and internet. You are in the woods so there’s a good amount of bees and flies so prepare for that if you are visiting during the warmer months. I brought a bug net canopy type thing which helped a lot having peaceful meals during the day. When I stayed, the water level at the pond was pretty low so we didn’t do much there. All in all, would recommend to those who want the private camping experience with some added amenities!
Brian’s skoolie was the perfect nature getaway. My husband and I, along with our dog, came out to the mountains to beat the heat for one night. The skoolie was thoughtfully stocked, including with potable water, cooking utensils, and games. Although the convertible bed looked clean and comfortable, we chose to camp in our tent so we could see the stars. As some other reviews mentioned, the lake is small and you can’t swim in it, and we shared the space with a lot of insect wildlife (just part of nature), but as long as expectations are set, it’s wonderful! Easy access to the Pacific Crest Trail, although we didn’t go very far because the weather was hot. What a unique experience. Thanks, Brian!

This location was absolutely perfect! We did a 2 day shoot for a client here, and owner gave us full access to the areas. Was quiet and peaceful and had 0 interruptions. Looking forward to booking this gem again!

Loved this campsite! Very remote feeling while still being near the city, Brian provided us with plenty of ice and water for our stay, and the Skoolie is clean, comfy and well stocked. My dog and I enjoyed our walks around the lake as well. We hope to visit again someday!

What a fabulous stay at Skoolie!
Everything was ready for us when we arrived. Ice chest with plenty of ice, water by the picnic table and firewood by the fire pit.
The skoolie is super clean. Has a fan and heater should that be needed. We didn’t need either but nice to have.
There is no cell phone service there but there is a battery charger where you can charge your phone if you need to.
Loved the area. Lots of good suggestions for hiking from Brian and Don.

Angeles Crest Skoolie
We had a great time at Angeles Crest Skoolie. Brian was very communicative about what to expect and provided us with plenty of water, games, fire wood, and even a bug tent! It was fun to explore the old camp ruins and we were able to take a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail. The weekend we went happened to be a bit of a heat wave, so it was tough to stay cool during the day, but the skoolie was plenty comfy at night and came equipped with a fan.

I had a great time at the Schoolie (although I camped in a tent). The area is beautiful and private and the bathroom was clean. Firewood, water and coffee were provided. It was a nice drive up to the campsite and had no issues getting there in a sedan. I would recommend this site if you’re looking for a quick weekend camping trip not too far from the city.
We loved camping at this site. There's SO much to talk about, but for brevity, i'll give ya'll the bullets:
- Brian prepped the place like we were royalty! From the outdoor firepit with firewood to the picnic table and already prepped outdoor trashcan--and everything in between. We felt like we were being hosted--yet we were all alone in the Angeles National Forest!
- I pitched a tent, while my wife & little kids slept in the schoolie bus bed with the wife. they LOVED it. Was super comfortable--the bed was a little tricky to set up, but once we figured it out, it was all good.
- everything in the schoolie was also well-prepped: there were already dishes, flatware, etc. There were even a few extra blankets (but definitely bring your own sleeping bags and extra blankets for warmth...and pillows).
- the whole space was amazing--lots to explore, space to play with the kids, and Brian even had some outdoor games left for us by the schoolie. In the schoolie Brian left a note explaining a bit about the area: apparently it was an old girl scouts campground, and in fact some of the old structures that were built back in the '70's are still there/standing, and it was really cool to see some of the carvings and old structures, knowing that people have been coming here for decades to take in the nature.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: the "lake" is very small and is NOT meant for swimming (and i wouldn't even consider fishing in it). It's really pretty, but that's about all i can say about that
