HUNTER'S PARK BY DC

13 sites · RVs, Tents27 acres · Damascus, MD
The campground is situated in the wooded area on the back of 27 acre horse farm which is known as "The Stables at Mezza Luna." Every year in the spring there are 4-6 Thoroughbred foals born that eventually will become racehorses. They live on the farm until they are 2 years old and then they go off to begin their racing career. In the daytime, when you are not sitting around your campfire, you can walk the fence lines and visit with the Mares and Foals or just watch them frolic in the fields. Hint! "They love peppermints, carrots and apples." Who knows, you might get to meet a future Kentucky Derby winner. Nearby attractions include: Vineyard 61 (5 minutes) Stone Silo Brewery (5 Minutes) Leechwood Haunted Forest (5 Minutes) October weekends only There are also chickens, ducks and peacocks that are very anxious to receive your love and affection with any type of treat as well. Kids can even go in the chicken coop and pick out their very own egg they can cook for their breakfast. For the energetic campers and kids there are also lots of trails that you can walk or hike on and there is a small stream the kids can play in. There also is a playground with swings, monkey bars, seesaw and trampoline. Don't miss out out on this hidden gem just minutes from our nation's capital.

Bears Den Campground

5 sites · Tents66 acres · Bluemont, VA
Set up your tent in our remote but easily accessible campground, 100 yards off the Appalachian Trail. Roast marshmallows by the fire pit and watch the sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley.  Individual site capacities are varied! Please take note of this when selecting your site upon checkout.  Site #1 is on a hilly slope and accommodates 4 campersSite #2 accommodates 8-10 campersSite #3 accommodates 4 campersSite #4 accommodates 6-8 campersSite #5 accommodates 6-8 campers   About the property Located on a 66-acre plot just five miles from the Shenandoah River, our property offers amazing access to hiking and the outdoors while also keeping civilization within striking distance. Bear Chase Brewery is just a half mile walk across the street, and we are 15 miles from Purcellville.  The land and lodge used to be the summer home of a trained opera singer, whose singing could be heard throughout the mountain.  Your Host lives onsite in the stone house that also acts as a hostel for hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Built in the 1930's all from locally sourced hand-hammered stone, the house is open every night from 5pm - 9pm.  Note that we offer several campsites relatively close to each other, so you should expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay.  About the listing Pitch your tent in a forested area just a short walk up from where you’ll park your car. Enjoy unbeatable proximity to hiking and panoramic views while still having basic amenities that ensure a comfortable stay.  You’ll have access to a composting pit toilet, and can access potable water from the tap in the lodge. That’s also where you can access hot showers. As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities.  For meals, we have picnic tables, and you are encouraged to cook over the fire pits that accompany each site. Please practice Leave No Trace practices during your stay, as the property has raccoons and other critters who will be drawn to any food scraps that are left behind.   Pets are allowed! Please keep them on leash during your stay.   Trash can be disposed of in the bins onsite.  Additional details to note Expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay. No kitchen equipment is provided, so campers must bring their own supplies if they'd like to cook. We do not offer WiFi, but there is good cell reception for all common carriers.

Riverside Farm by the Monocacy

7 sites · Tents30 acres · Walkersville, MD
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE BOOKING... 30 acres of mostly reclaimed farmland. We are located where Glade Creek flows into the Monocacy River. There is evidence of civil war activity here and the old river ford is on our property. Creek and river access make this a beautiful, peaceful place that is full of life. The energy here is overwhelmingly positive. Our house was built in the 1850s and the neighboring farm was built shortly after—lots of history on this property. You will be able to camp right next to Glade Creek which is always cool, clean, and refreshing. Our goal with opening the land up for camping is to eventually phase out commercial farming on the property and transform it into woodlands using native plants and trees. We've already started by planting hundreds of native tree species along the creek and river banks. Each camper gets us closer to that goal! Thanks for your support! See our map in the gallery for a complete overview of our property including site locations. Please note that you will need to drive back through the crossing to access the portable toilet. Property occasionally floods. Zero flash floods, just slow river overflow. Check this site for flooding info. https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?gage=fdkm2 Flood stage is 15 feet.

Artesian's Hidden Acres

1 site · RV, Tent3 acres · Fort Washington, MD
Welcome to our private, family-owned retreat! For decades, we have provided nature-based community service programs that promote wellness, restoration, and relaxation. Artesian immerses guests in the healing properties of nature. Artesian's Hidden Acres is a hidden gem located in a rural-residential district of Fort Washington and are currently suited for off-grid campers. We do not provide electricity, toilets, or running water, but we do provide privacy and a unique camping experience. So, pitch your tents, park your campers, and bring your water, cooking supplies, and power source - we'll provide the fire pit, a bundle of wood, birds, crickets, groundhogs, and tranquility. But, while you will feel secluded, we do have neighbors nearby so out of respect, please try to quiet down a bit after 9pm. Thanks! In fact, bring your bike, hiking shoes, and fishing gear along too because the property is located just 4 miles from both the Henson Creek Trailhead (a scenic paved trail perfect for walking, jogging, and cycling) and Cosca Regional Park Hiking and Mountain Biking Trail (a 690-acre natural surface and paved trail with picnic areas, tennis courts, an equestrian trail network, and a lake for boating and fishing). Since we're on the subject of location, Artesian's Hidden Acres' rural-residential status gives you the best of both worlds. On the one hand, we are secluded and nestled in a private, 3-acre plat. On the other hand, we are in a residential community giving you quick (less than one mile) retail and restaurant access to Giant Food, gas stations, Auto Zone Auto Parts, fast-food restaurants, CVS, and more. We're also located 2 miles from Branch Avenue Metrorail Station; 5 miles from the MGM National Harbor & Tanger Outlets; 3.5 miles from Top Golf; 11 miles from Six Flags America; 10 miles from the DC Tidal Basin; 6 miles from Old Town Alexandria Waterfront; 8 miles from Fort Washington Park; and 10 miles from Watkins Regional Park.

My backyard is designed to be cozy and a fun place to be. There is a corn hole set up in the back. There's also a background for children. The trees and vegetation leave a natural beauty to the area. For campers, there is the option to set up 3 or 4 tents in the backyard for backyard camping. There is plenty of space to set the tent up in on the patio area or in the grassy area.

Willet Family Farm

5 sites · RVs, Tents12 acres · Westminster, MD
Named “Favorite Hipcamp Site in the State of Maryland" by OUTSIDE MAGAZINE in 2020! The tallest structure on our farm is the windmill, constructed in 1874, and it quickly became the logo for our farm because a windmill is something that harnesses power for a specific purpose. For many generations, the windmill harnessed the power of the wind to grind grain or pump water, but now in the 21st century, Willet Family Farm hopes to harness the power of the outdoors to benefit every guest that comes to visit. The Willet Farm survived many hardships including The Great Depression, the 1999 tornado that destroyed the barn, and cancer that claimed the life of family members too early. In 2006, The farm had to be sold outside of the family, but in an effort to honor past generations and preserve the heritage of what the farm stood for (faith, family and hard work), Jeremy and Kathleen Willet purchased the farm back in 2017. The 13 acre farm is perfectly located in the middle of over 200 acres of farmland owned by parents and cousins. Since that time, we have welcomed over 200 guests from 10 different states and 2 different countries! We raise free-range chickens, board horses and are a Renewable Energy Farm completely powered by the sun through a comprehensive solar design on our barn.

The best camping near Rock Creek Park guide

Overview

About

America's premier urban national park is a wilderness and recreational wonderland in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C.
The 1,754-acre playground for humans and habitat for wildlife boasts over 32 miles of trails. You'll also find meadows and streams in the forested landscape that's just made for a leisurely picnic lunch.

The park's flat asphalt trails accommodate runners, cyclists, strollers, and rollerbladers. A thick cover of hardwood trees provides shade and a refreshing escape from the hectic city. There are two primary trails that run north-south in the park: The Western Ridge Trail and the Valley Trail. Multiple connector trails running mostly east-west join them. This makes it super easy to create your own 1- to 10-mile loops. Check out the Highlighted Hikes brochure for some moderate routes that take you through the forest and along the creek, passing by a Civil War fort and a 1880s poet's cabin.

You can pretty much practice the sport of your passion in Rock Creek Park. The Tennis Center has 15 hard courts and 10 clay courts. The park's two boating centers offer all sorts of rental equipment including canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. There's an 18-hole golf course complete with putting greens and pro shop. The Horse Center offers riding lessons, trail rides, and pony rides. Equestrians enjoy 13 miles of dirt and gravel bridle paths that crisscross the park.

The Old Stone House, two bookstores, a Planetarium, and the 4,200-seat Carter Barron Amphitheatre are just a few of the other attractions here. Ranger-led wildlife tours and other programs start or take place at the Nature Center, which also serves as the visitor center. Stop there first for trail maps. They'll fill you in on the numerous free or inexpensive adventures available to you at Rock Creek Park.
