The Button Farm Living History Center is a hands-on education facility dedicated to preserving the history of the Underground Railroad. It is operated by the Menare Foundation through a long term lease agreement with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Several of us who work for the non-profit live in the Button Farm house and share the land with our pigs, geese, chickens and lots of wildlife. We're a close drive to Germantown and all the basic amenities of modern life, but when you come down our drive, you enter a world of natural beauty and rural quiet. When booking, keep in mind that all persons--regardless of age or whether or not they intend to spend the night--must be paid for. Our restroom includes hand sanitizer.

Button Farm
This is a great location. Please don’t raise the price, though. The price is a bit higher than many. I think the price is about correct for what it offers. The only issue I had was not being informed of the flee market during our camp stay. The use of the pavilion is important especially when it rains or the sun is especially hot. We could not use the pavilion and lost a few hours waiting for the rain to stop. We’ll return for sure, but I’d like to know next time if the pavilion will not be available, I’ll choose a date when it is available. The historic nature of the farm is really interesting, I look forward to the new plans you have that will allow for guided tours of the property. Love the outhouse as well. You can probably add one or two more camp sites with another pavilion and outhouse close to the other sites. Love the fire pits and the privacy/distance between sites. Well done, Button Farm! See you all again soon!

Big Field
This was an excellent area to camp without being to out of the way. Checkin was easy, the field felt nice and private, and the campsite was spacious and clean. I would love to stay again sometime. One thing of note, I visited on a cooler day, but be prepared to bring your own shade on a hot day, as there's no natural shade on the campsite.

Quiet open space. level surfaces. Soft grass. we biked in which was useful for getting to the toilet a few hundred yards away. Bring your own water and Firewood.

Cold but so good!
I loved my time in the big field! Steve was great, he even gave me the pick of sites since it was windy in the field but the field was too beautiful to not brave the cold! I will absolutely be back! Thanks so much!
