We had a great experience at the Pine in the Sky. We stayed at Strawberry Fields Bunkie last weekend. Joan is an exceptional host, she accomodated our stay since my partner’s flight arrived at 10pm and got to the cabin around 1:30am. She had left us an instructions of how to get to our cabin. At the same time, she’s making sure that we have everything that we needed.

Cabin comfortably fits a queen size air mattress for kiddos or additional sleeping space.

Weekend Trip to Sparrow Lake Camp

We loved the privacy and being right on the lake. Many hands make for light work when moving your gear from your vehicle to the site, a short hike down a nice trail. If you have mobility issues this site might be challenging but it’s beautiful and we had a great time. Brendan was kind and friendly. We fished right off the rocks with much success. Would recommend this site for sure.

The place was so amazing, they've provided blankets, pillows, bbq with lighting supplies, firewood, and heat inside the cabin was also provided! Back of their house, there is a sauna and a hot tub that they provide! It was one of the highlights of our weekend trip. They also provide a water to wash your utensils, and an outdoor shower with hot water!! They've got two big dogs on the property to keep other critters and wildlife away, as they also have chickens at the front of the property. Ed was very accommodating, and even provided us a towel for the sauna. It was the perfect getaway, and perfect break from the city air and noise

This is a hidden gem. The view is amazing. The campsite is large field with different kind of views at different angle. Susan and John were friendly, replying messages fast. The farm is great with 2 donkeys, 1 alpaca, 2 swans. However only donkeys can be feed. That’s okay but don’t put too much expectation on the animals because without food, they won’t come to you!!! Just enjoy the beautiful campsite and views and walk around this beautiful farm is enough to have a wonderful trip!! I recommend this place to everyone, and I will gladly come back if I need a big and private campground with gorgeous view!

Cabin was closer to the main house than we thought but was still tucked away enough! Went for a swim on one of the nice days in the river (tip: bring some rope to help you climb out as it’s very slippery clay) Went fishing and caught a very small brook trout. Host and doggos are very sweet! The area is full of amazing sights, you can make an entire day out of adventuring the area within 25 mins of the cabin

103 Acre Marlborough Forest

Camping at the 103 Acre woods is part of the Marlborough Forest. It has groomed pathways in the meadow and rustic pathways through the woods for your hiking pleasure. If you are interested in backwoods camping, it's easy to do here, park your car in the driveway, grab your gear, and head to the back forty! If camping is not your thing and you just want some private land for the day, such as a photo shoot, or just wandering around, firepit lunch or firepit dinner, just book a site. If you reserve both sites, the entire land becomes yours for the time you are here. I only list 2 sites for camping so you will have plenty of space and privacy from any other campers. Lots of space to spread out and have your privacy. If you want complete privacy, reserve both sites! For the tenting campsites, I have 2 available. One is in the front 40 near the playstructure and closer to the house. It's called the "Cedars". You can drive directly to your campsite. The other campsite is a short hike into the woods and is just off to the side. It's called the "103 Paces". When staying at the 103 Paces campsite, you can drive through the meadow and park just outside of the woods. From there, there is a lawncart you can use to transport your gear to the campsite. Each campsite has a firepit for your use and is close to a shared composting toilet. If you are staying in an RV, you can park in the driveway and still access all the other parts of the property. Tent campers can select anywhere they want to pitch a tent and enjoy the beauty of the 103 Acre woods. Depending on where you choose to camp, you might be able to drive right up to your site. Firepit and wood available for use providing there is no burn ban. Water from the hose attached to the house is available for use. You are welcome to use the outside outlets to charge your devices. RV Electric hookup can be used for an extra fee. I have a composting toilet in a privacy cabana. There will be sanitizer to sanitize your hands. The composting toilet is a shared facility for both campsites. Comes with toilet paper. If you prefer to have your own composting toilet, you can add that on for an extra when you are booking. It's 10.00 more for your stay. I have a few water jugs to have water at your site if you don't have your own jug. A compost bin is available for food. A trash can is provided for waste. Recycle bins are in use as well for paper and plastic. I have patio table that can be used at your site if it's in the front 40. Back forty, I have a smaller more portable table that can be used. It's not too heavy to port. Firewood is not necessary to bring, there is lots of wood locally here on the property to use, you just have to gather it up yourself. I have a wheelbarrow that can be used to transport it to your site. There are wetlands and forests and meadows. There is very little light pollution here. Come and gaze at the stars If you are lucky, you might get to hear the resident whippoorwill, he is nocturnal. The sky is beautiful at night. Wake up to the sounds of many birds. There is a play structure for kids with 2 slides and a bridge, monkey bars, swings, firepole, and climbing wall. There are many things to find in the back 40. You might find a vintage car bumper, and in the spring if you look really hard, you might come across Lady Slipper orchids. They are stunning in the wild. If you want to trudge through the wetlands, be sure to bring your rubber boots. In the front 40 you can take some fun pictures with a vintage abandoned front end of an Aston Martin truck. The 103 Acre woods is conveniently located 3K from the Rideau River and Canal in Burritt's Rapids. Burritts Rapids has a nice "Tip to Tip" trail you can hike on the island of Burritts Rapids. Also there is the Henry Street Park, which has a small beach on the Rideau River. The Rideau Trail is located nearby as well. There are many entrances to the Rideau Trail just minutes away. Located 10 minutes or so from Merrickville. Great fishing along the Rideal Canal lock system. Merrickville has a small beach on the Rideau River. Merrickville has a wonderful Gelato place "Stella Luna". Get your Gelato and walk back to see the boats in the historic Rideau Canal. Lots of history in Merrickville and Burritt's Rapids. If camping is not your thing and you just want some private land for the day, such as a photo shoot, or just wandering around, firepit lunch or firepit dinner, just book a site. If you reserve both sites, the entire land becomes yours for the time you are here. There are 2 well-behaved chiahuahua's who live on the property. They will see you at the meet and greet. They will for sure welcome you to their yard. Your dog is welcome, just remember to pickup after them.

Pine the Sky

This beautiful spot was re-forested with pine a number of years ago, and was sectioned off from the surrounding farmland, which is now maintained by the mennonite community. It is 8 1/2 acres of wetland and forest, with a mown perimeter, and cool places to tuck into the forest for the night. The current owner was a special educator, and now is slowly turning the land into her homestead. There is a beautiful, spa quality outdoor shower next to a tidy and 'fancier than most' outhouse, a strawberry patch as well as wild alpine strawberries all over the property, a big dog and a small indoor cat keep her company. Here is what the land offers: -Bunkie in the Forest: A sweet 8x8 ft. space with new bunk and mattresses as of April 2023 -Strawberry Fields bunkie: an 10x12 space with a loft with a queen memory foam mattress and a main floor with a full futon and a small table -Campsites: Meadow, Forest and River spots. Close to each other, but you'd never know it! All three are chill and serene places. Sparrow Lake Camp is situated on the southernmost tip of the majestic Canadian Shield. The site is known to have been a campground for bands of the Huron people prior to the European intrusion. It is considered probable that Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore Huronia, spent a night on this site in the 17th Century.In 1892, what would become the west side of the current property was sold by pioneer Captain Thomas Stanton to Toronto's renowned Massey family to act as their summer resort. The resort sported the main lodge, dining room, and cottages and was only accessible by train and steamer. From the onset, the Masseys used the site as a summer retreat for the Young Men's Bible League of the Central Methodist Church. Today, the property is a thriving summer camp that also offers overnight tent stays with stunning lake views.

Camp Willowbrook

We purchased this farm in 1998 from the previous farmer who had owned it since 1929. The train line ran right by the gate where the Kota hut now sits and would drop cattle right there to be finished and sold later at the Toronto Stockyards. Our barn was built in 1890 with the old farmhouse located across the creek. Two creeks meet the Grand River on our farm. The bunkie is situated north of the barn and faces Willow creek. During the summer the creek gets quite shallow but there are a couple of pools that work nicely for a float with our river tubes. The river also has a small swimming hole. The bunkie is nestled between 2 hills which creates a natural little valley. Campers can take a walk around the property or use the nearby long walking trail. New this spring, campers will be able to enjoy the firewood sauna, located close to the bunkie and nestled in a private spot near the creek.

Chris's Place

Offering a serviced camping site for a tent, with firepit, toilet, shower, a large deck, floating dock and private 1.5 acre lake! Parking is right at the campsite, following a 400m tractorway over grass. This tractorway enters and exits onto the county road independent of the host’s private home driveway. Our small, bio-diverse farm is in a quiet location but only 10km from shops and cafes. Our property is run with minimal chemical inputs and a lot of hard manual labour. We also run a seasonal farm shop selling our tree nut products and crafts. You will camp by our private 1.5 acre lake which you are welcome to explore by our canoe (canoe, two paddles and life preservers provided) supporting sun fish, bass and perch with midland and snapping turtles and thousands of tree frogs in the spring, and musk rat, woodland ducks, and heron. You may also see bobolinks, barn swallows, and bats in summer, ask to borrow our bat detector to listen to their chirps at dusk, or binoculars to watch wildlife. Check out our ancient Jesuit pear tree, 65’ tall, you may never see another as it is a very rare tree. We are on the migration routes of Tundra swans and Monarch butterflies. Star gazing is very good, there is very little light pollution. Tall poplar trees provide shade and shelter as well as pleasant sounds of the wind. We provide free 5G drinking water per day, firewood (unless there is a ban), and within 5 min walk you can use a fridge/freezer, electric outlet for short term use eg charging a battery. We service the campsite by mowing, a rustic recycling station, kindling, matches, firepit, gas burner-griddle and we collect clean, washed recyclables, compostable veg scraps and paper and garbage after your stay. Please don’t bring your own firewood, we provide plenty. Footwear is advised. Conditions underfoot are usually good, we do try to keep poison ivy in check but it does pop up here and there. We experience a modified continental climate with the effect of the Great Lakes. The typical snow season lasts from November until April, interspersed by rapid thaws and rainfall. Rarely does this create significant problems underfoot due to our soils being free-draining sands and gravel, but occasional localized flooding can occur in low-lying spots.
