Welcome to Camp Wilder! We are an off-the-beaten-path camp offering peace and solitude. The cabin is very special to my family and me. It was passed down as a mining claim from my grandmother who founded it in the '60s. The vision for the land was simply perfect. A small 10 x 10 cabin with the whole mountain to explore and whoever they wished to bring with them. The town of Nederland is 10 minutes down the road where you can fish at Baker Reservoir. Lots of fun little stores in town to keep the family busy. Wildlife is everywhere up by the cabin/campsite, always remember don't leave food lying around with lots of great things to look for around the magical town of Nederland. The cabin sleeps up to 8 with the futon downstairs being very comfortable and 3" foam upstairs in the loft for more sleeping area. Bring your sleeping bags to stay cozy at night. There are lanterns inside to light up your night with a wood stove to keep you warm at night. The ground around it is sloped so you may have a hard time setting up any tents around the cabin. The grocery store is in Nederland where you can buy food, Coleman green propane bottles, gallon jugs of water and wood. There is a 3 burner Coleman, stove to cook on with limited pots & pans as well as silverware. Road disclaimer, the road to the cabin is one lane dirt road. The drive up to the cabin is pretty good but the turn onto the single dirt road to the cabin has a slight dip, if you have a low-clearance car it may bottom out when you are turning so be careful. No Trailers. They will not be able to turn around once there. Recommend vehicles with AWD. Go 3.4 miles up Caribou road. Turn right @ yellow stakes go .4 miles. Park on the left. Hike down to the cabin between yellow stakes. We are @ 10,000 feet and it is a slight hike to the cabin. Go 3.4 miles up Caribou road. Turn right @ yellow stakes go .4 miles When leaving please make sure both door locks are locked, put the key in the lock box and mix the code for the next camper.

3 nights at Gondola Village at Holy Cross

A good high-alpine base camp. The construction is tight, the windows and screens are new, we didn’t have a single mosquito or fly during the stay despite keeping the windows open. The small steel table works well as a camp kitchen, and there’s pots and a frying pan available. There was a tiny rivulet 30 yards from the cabin with just enough flow to refill bottles. Off-roaders will love the jeep trails. We hiked, and carried water shoes for the crossings on French Creek but didn’t need them (it’s a drought year). There are nicer hiking trails up above the cabin and toward Fancy Lake/Pass. We found Gaia far more useful than Alltrails in this area since most of the old trails are unnamed/unmarked and without pre-recorded routes. The bed is comfortable. We brought sleeping bags and pillowcases. At 1:00am, the first night, some animal was scratching at the siding and then on the beams underneath. Very loud. I used a long piece of wood (there’s still plenty of construction detritus around, handy for the purpose) to roust it out, then it left us alone for the rest of the trip. Things to bring: water filtration, maybe sporks, charged headlamps and battery backup since the current solar/battery system in the cabin is not functioning. Ben intends to work on it…but near term I’d bring a backup, so your phones/nav don’t die like ours did before getting out of the wilderness. All-in-all a great trip. Thanks, Ben, for managing this place and letting us stay. What a cool adventure!

This cabin is awesome - I know some have mentioned cleanliness in a couple reviews - for us it was great. You are out there in the wilderness and get to fully disconnect, all while having a nice little cabin for shelter. If you're looking for "glamping", this isn't it, but if you like to get away and experience the true colorado nature, it's a highly recommend. We will be back!

3 nights at Sweetwater River Resort

We had an amazing stay at this cozy riverside cabin! The views are incredible, and it's a great spot to relax, unwind, and enjoy nature. A couple of tips for future guests: if you're visiting when temperatures are above 90°F, be prepared for the cabin to get pretty warm. There is a fan, but bringing an additional fan will make a big difference. Since you're right on the river, bug spray and some fly tape are also good things to pack. Those minor things didn't take away from our experience. We'd happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, scenic getaway.

The full campground takeover at Camp Always Choose Adventures was absolutely awesome!! Having the entire campground for our kids to roam was perfect for our group, and Chantelle was such an amazing host. She was always thinking about how to make it fun for our kids - from feeding the goats to the offroading "roller coaster", it was a trip they won't forget! Chantelle was always a gracious host ahead of time, as we had a lot of questions that she was always ready to answer. She also thought ahead to get some oxygen for our out-of-state family, which ended up coming in handy. I would strongly recommend this site to anyone looking for a space for a large group... we can't wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Mountain Bird Alpine Desert

I absolutely loved the school room metal cabin at Paul and Robin's place. They are excellent owners and provide wonderful customer service. The little school room was equipped with everything you would need. It was so beautifully decorated with a wonderful bed, windows with million dollar views of the Sangre De Cristo mountain range, and it was so quiet and restful. There is desk to write on, table and chairs, dresser, and an extra little couch bed. So many wonderful books to read, and a little gift shop that I could not resist of homemade gifts by Robin. There is a little table and chairs outside, and a wonderful toilet and shower right next door to the metal cabin. I cannot wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Neverland Camp Wilder

We loved tent camping with our pups. There was plenty of room, multiple tables, and a lot of shade. We only saw a few cars and a few people. Highly recommend!

It was so quiet and peaceful. I'm used to the Midwest cacophony of insects and this was a lovely change of environment. Even with strong efforts to acclimate the week before, I still struggled mildly with low O2 and higher heart rate. Stay hydrated and listen to your body.

Weekend Trip to Gondola Village at Holy Cross

We had a wonderful stay at Gondola Village - would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a unique backcountry adventure. The hike in was beautiful and enjoyable - about 3 miles, taking us around 3 hours because we took our time, soaked in the scenery, and chatted with a few friendly hikers along the way. There were plenty of opportunities to collect and filter water from the creeks, so we realized that carrying 2–3 liters each from the trailhead wasn’t really necessary. Once we arrived, the area felt peaceful and remote. We enjoyed exploring the remnants of Holy Cross City, visiting Cleveland Lake, and filtering water from the nearby streams. We brought all of our own gear, but it was nice to find the hut well stocked with useful supplies, and the outdoor shower was a great bonus after a day of hiking. One tip for future guests: when you arrive, open the windows and screens for a few minutes to let the moths out before settling in. Once it gets dark, keeping the lights off helps avoid attracting more. The views from the hut are absolutely incredible and made for a memorable place to relax. The only unexpected part of our trip was being awakened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday by a group on ATVs, but otherwise it was remarkably quiet. We only encountered a couple of small groups at Cleveland Lake… on our hike out, which took us about 2 hours, we didn’t see another person until we reached the parking lot. This was a fantastic and unique experience-we enjoyed our time!!!

2 nights at Camp Always Choose Adventures

I cannot say enough good things about this place! Chantelle was an amazing host, super accommodating and took us on a same day reservation after our other place fell through. We stayed in one of the micro cabins facing out at a beautiful valley, with endless hills and Mountain Views in the distance. Quiet, tranquil, and just what we needed. The bed was super comfy and the cabin was clean! Super dog friendly, we brought both of our pups and they loved exploring the land (the first night). Only downside for us, which no one had any control over was the altitude. We adjusted relatively well, a bit nauseous in the beginning but just keeping hydrated helped with that a ton. Our dog however had a really hard time and was vomiting the morning after arriving. It got to the point that he was not keeping down water and we unfortunately had to leave a day early. Chantelle was so understanding and kind, even messaging me the next day to ask how he was doing (much better now). I was so sad to have to leave early and could have stayed another week easily, but my pups health had to come first. Please don’t let this dissuade you from coming and staying here, just be aware you are at a very high altitude.

Weekend Trip to Camp Always Choose Adventures

This is a really pretty site! Chantelle is super helpful and the side by side ride she took us on was super fun. The road in is super bumpy, so be prepared for that. The cabin is cute, and there is already a hammock provided and room for another one. The amount of stuff they have for you to use is awesome too. They have brand new bear boxes all over the campground.

This place has a great location, stunning views and a fun, peaceful vibe. The hosts were very kind and understanding about a booking mistake I made. The communal kitchen is a great resource. Do pay attention to the description about heating and cooling which the hosts provide. Our cabin did get very hot during the day.
