They are using all they've learned from years of RV adventures, to continue the park's mission of providing a clean, affordable, spacious, well-run camping facility, and to be a centrally located "base camp" and hub of information for everything this unique area has to offer. You'll be camping in the shadows of 14,000 ft. mountain peaks, in the largest high-desert alpine valley in the world, that is sprinkled with free-flowing artesian wells, hot springs and wet lands. Daily summer temperatures average 65 degrees, and it will get down into the 50's at night. That's perfect camping weather! For native American tribes, including the Utes, Apache, Navajos, and others, this valley is considered the source of life, a place where humans and spirit enter and leave this world. The valley was considered so sacred, that no war would be waged here. The ET Connection As if all of the mountains, deserts, hot springs, and sacred ground weren't enough, The San Luis Valley is also known as a UFO hot spot! It's too cold to tent camp so this quaint cabin was perfect. Still cooked on camp stove outside but with the benefit of electricity to heat up water in kettle provided. Had a lovely campfire one night but mostly stayed warm with the wood burning stove. We normally bring 10 gallons of water but this had a potable well pump that saved us the trouble. It was a perfectly relaxing atmosphere and stay. The night sky was gorgeous. The hike around the property lovely. The dogs were friendly and charming. Lorie is attentive and helpful. At my questioning she suggested Beckwith Ranch a worthwhile stop. I spent 2 hours there and got a private tour! It was a wonderful stay. Oh, and the the outhouse was positively posh😊

Sweetwater was such an incredible time! The cabin was perfect and setting was even better. My husband and pup spent two days here and wish we could have stayed longer!! Only critique was that it certainly wasn’t private. The neighboring cabins are super close, and several kids fishing just kept walking through our area and even using our front to fish. Not a big issue, but something to keep in mind if you’re looking for something private!

We had such a lovely time at Bear Creek Ranch. The cabin is supplied well with things like an electric kettle, tea bags, coffee, firewood, and a fan for warm evenings. We loved getting to lay in the grass in front of the cabin and see the Milky Way. We made fires in the evenings in the wood stove, so cozy. The dogs are calm and friendly, as are the horses. The outhouse was very clean and not smelly at all, and very close to the cabin. It was a perfect weekend getaway for us to slow down and reconnect.

I stayed in Pioneer Cabin 1 and it was such an amazing stay. Great little piece of land surrounded by trees but still with great views of the river below. River was just a few steps down a small hill. Easy access to swim and relax in the river. Had two chairs, a fire pit, two charcoal grills and a picnic table. I was able to sling a hammock from two of the trees with a great view overlooking the river. The cabin was great. Very charming, comfortable, and clean. A plus to have a small refrigerator, a microwave, coffee maker and running water with a sink. I would absolutely return. It was a really wonderful getaway from the city. Thank you so much!!

This was a such a cute, little spot. Great access to the river, short walk to the restrooms, very quiet (even with people all around us). The shower was warm, the beds were relatively comfortable, and the cabin was cozy. The only thing I would have loved to have was a tube rental. The river was fun to play in, but a tube would have made been great. We brought our own bedding. They provide it, but brining our own made it that much more comfortable. We will definitely stay here again.

You can camp overnight on the dunes, highly recommend. If not camping the closest town crestone is amazing wonderfuly small, and quite. No lights zone so amazing sky view at night. I highly recommend surfing the dunes amazingly fun. If you get the chance to go during spring the Medano creek will be running through and amazing place to stay cool.

How is this real?!
I went at the beginning of winter so the dunes were converted in a light dusting of snow. Absolutely beautiful!

Obviously the sand dunes are a big draw definitely don't miss going sand sledding or sandboarding if you're feeling adventurous. There's a pretty cool trailer that goes up to mosca pass and you can also hike the dunes. A very surreal scene with all of the mountains surrounding the dunes!

Love sledding on the dunes. We were even able to bring our dogs (which is surprising for a national park). It is fun to run through the creek when it is running too. Great way to cool off in the hot sun.
